Now, while I am plenty surprised at the expert mode complaint out of the blue, this video has shown and proved a very important point. No matter what difficulty mode a player plays on, it can always be made into the worthy challenge by the player themselves. This is the true beauty of Terraria, and it should be cherished amongst the players, rather than shunned down.
I would consider it more my thoughts and criticism, and the reasons I don't play Expert when people ask for it, than simply complaining about it. But yes, I totally agree when it comes to the flexibility of the game. It allows for creating your own unique challenges and experiences that suit your tastes.
@@WandofSparking I for once appreciate your opinion and honesty. I've done this challenge myself before, on expert and at first I thought you've switched to expert (after obtaining Terra Blade, which is essentially the end of the run; it's a piece of cake after that), just to make the challenging part of the challenge less challenging (getting The True Night Edge). I did it on expert and it took AGES to gather everything, so I could stand a chance vs queen slime (for the best mount in the game in many scenarios, imo, a must have on all of my playthroughs) mech bosses with Star Fury and Enchanted Sword. Had to do quite a bit of preparations, gathering all the accessories, preparing viable arenas, elixirs, buffs, etc. It's all time consuming, but I never really looked at it from this perspective. I just liked the challenge and felt like in order to meet it, I need to do all the necessities. I'm yet to beat master mode, but I feel like the same argument applies there. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to run master everywhere and have to go through all the extra effort compared to expert. Rewards don't seem to be worth it, other than the extra slot, which I really like. I also like the way defense scales there. Makes the early grind for the extra defense really rewarding. In the end the game is meant to be fun, we all seem to have fun no matter how we play it. Some prefer less grindy, quicker runs, others don't mind dying a thousand times before entering hardmode on master mode, and then another thousand right after entering it. I still think some events and early game are very unbalanced. Every time it's a death-fest no matter how well prepared you are. It's always a matter of getting far enough so you can just face roll everything or basically 1-2 hit them. They quickly go from very frustrating and impossible to survive without cheesing to laughably easy, but it's barely ever right in the middle, where you actually enjoy the challenge.
@@WandofSparking I only play expert mode for increased challenge, but I can understand why other people wouldn't want to do that considering it took me ~4 years to beat it on classic
i can respect the fact that the man plays at his own pace in his own way, that's why the game has 4 different ways to play it. hell, me and a friend are about to do calamity for the first time, blind, on the hardest mode, and that's the way we like it. the harder mechanics, the new ways to break a fight and completely destroy it, and especially the grind are why I love terraria. I give this man credit for trying something he didn't enjoy, but it helped him confirm his way of playing was fun for him. but i did die a little inside seeing the zenith destroyed like that.
@@bweh455 That doesn't matter, I was saying that he COULD get back the zenith if he really wanted to, he just chooses not to It gives a reason why he trashed it
@@KompadoodleLEL quality of life means making the game more convenient without changing the gameplay. Having the ability to deposit your items into neaby chest is quality of life, beacuse you were gonna do it anyways do it, and it doesnt remove any element of skill from thr game. If you made every drop twice as likely to happen then it's not quality of life. Or if you have a game where enemies don't have healthbars, modding them in wouldn't be quality of life, it would be a fundamental gameplay change. I think thats enough examples, you should understand by now.
I always pick the Beetle Shell for defense and damage reduction. It was a good choice in my opinion Edit: Next playthrough idea: Craft the drill containment unit but you can use and craft items from ores and bars needed for the dcu (applies to weapons, armor, tools, but for tools you are allowed to use the pickaxes before the molten pickaxe)
so this one... this could only be done by either using explosives/npcs/non-direct attacks to kill EoW then getting meteorite and hellstone OR by mining almost to hell and finding a gold chest that has meteorite in it (this is possible if the chest generates close enough to hell). either way, starting this off would be difficult
honestly I personally find expert mode to be more fun when playing in multiplayer, especially the 15 sec timer makes it harder to cheese bosses with leaving a single player alive while the others respawn
Yeah, I don't really think expert mode is much a waste of time (except for the single player respawn timer, that really doesn't make sense). The extra health is offset by the fact you get new loot and higher drop rates, meaning certain drops don't take too long to get. I think its a bit weird to think that you shouldn't have to waste time preparing for a boss a good amount. However master mode I cannot disagree that it would be a waste of time if you don't enjoy something that is unnecessarily hard, there are too few changes that make master mode worth it except for bragging right lol.
i can do expert. I can do calamity death mode. But i can't do master. There are like 2 good weapons in the entire game and illuminant bats two shot you no matter what. It fucking sucks. It's not even that hard but the normal enemies tlake so long to kill
I've always felt that, in regards to items that have ridiculous drop rates like 1/3000, if you manage to kill 3000 of that enemy you should be given that drop. Guaranteed. That way, you could still get it by random chance beforehand, but there's a point where the game should be saying "Alright, you've suffered enough for this. Here."
Please do play on classic if that’s actually what you prefer, it kinda felt like your frustration with expert went past: “haha funny suffering joke” And these challenges don’t need to be anymore absurd than they often already are, I still love watching them!
This video seemed more like wand's tangent on expert mode rather than the finale to a series, being honest here. I agree with you on some bits, but i will always prefer expert to normal and prefer both of them compared to mastermode.
@@dev655con Tons of drop tables, including the rod of discord and pretty much every ingredient in the Ankh Shield, are doubled. So yeah you have to farm more to get better gear, but I find that I’m pretty much only missing the vitamins for Ankh Shield at the end of the day because you just kinda accumulate the things you need otherwise. Plus the expert-exclusive stuff like shield of Cthulhu is the best!
@@dev655con Some ppl enjoy the difficult, others like the accesories and the demon heart and also makes the game longer in a certain way that i like, that applies to revengance and death mode from Calamity mod which i use
The reasons that I play expert almost exclusively are: 1. Because classic mode is too easy for me at this point ( well over 1,000 hours in the game). 2. Some of my favorite items are expert exclusive such as shield of Cthulhu, worm scarf, demon heart, etc. 3. Treasure bags are much better for multiplayer, as each person get their own drops. 4. Lastly, I don’t play journey mode as I enjoy challenge, and I don’t play master mode as it has no real reward for its difficulty. Edit: This is just my opinion, if you want to play in any other difficulty go for it!
100% agree with everything there, especially #4. while i'm fine with expert mode's new fun items and mechanics, i feel master mode is just haha number go bigger because funny
I have never done a playtrought in normal mode, and the only time i tried it was a sand only challenge (can only damage enemies with falling sand, sand gun and forbitten armor set) but i gave up at my first zombie and turned it into a expert melee playtrought
Yes, I grinded that phase so many times in 1.3 to get influx wavsr and car key, then after thinking i did such a good job, 1,4: now you don't have to do that anymore if you want influx waver it is litterally twice as easy
This is how I would describe each mode (Excluding journey mode): Normal mode: Its very intuitive and takes little to no preparation. Any gear you need can be acquired by simply playing through the boss fights, you can learn as you go, a total of around 30 minutes of mining to get first weapon and then first hardmode armor (maybe up to an hour if you want to max out HP). Expert: Requires to do basic preparation for boss fights and learn their attack patterns, mobility is your friend. Acquire best possible gear or simply get basic potions and terraform an arena with lesser gear to defeat a boss (will extend time it takes to playthrough game due to preparations being needed). Mastermode: Requires significant preparation and familiarity to face bosses, if you don't plan your route it will take a while to make progress. You must obtain best possible gear, create an arena, and make potions in order to have a good chance at beating bosses (will significantly extend time it takes to playthrough game due to meticulous preparations being key). True Terrarian mode: You naturally set the world to master mode every time, not only this, you are required to build detailed NPC specific housing, create an elaborate pylon network and terraform entire world to look aesthetically pleasing, hell, you even create elaborate underground railroads for quick access to all biomes, and as a side hobby do all 200 fishing quests every playthrough. Preparation? Naturally, I will even set up special arenas for every single boss, and arena's meant to cheese each boss just for fun after actually having killed the boss yourself. Time? Isn't life merely meant to play Terraria? Its natural to spend at least a few months for each playthrough, sometimes to make it more difficult I'll play with an afk account so bosses have extra health and do more damage. I even create special artificial biomes for the Pillars, having calculated where they would spawn, and when I am bored Ill play with hardcore characters on the "For the Worthy" seed, naturally. Memes aside, I prefer master mode of all the modes. It really just depends on your attention span and willingness to make preparations. If you like quickly playing through games and fighting the bosses, normal mode fits you, if you like taking your time and having to plan and make preparations for your playthrough, master mode is for you, if your in-between, expert mode is for you. Terraria is one of my favorite games, and I have a very long attention span, I don't like games that can be beaten in half a day, I prefer games that even with experience still takes a couple days to beat, so I naturally prefer mastermode to extend my playthroughs. This is why there are different modes you can make your world, not everybody is the same.
True Terrarian sounds like some purgatory that Terraria players would go to when they die, forced to endlessly play brutal worlds to absolute perfection for the rest of time
@@ashrygud I missed nothing. For the worthy makes the playthrough much harder, however the destruction it causes to your worlds makes it pointless to try to build. One unlucky night is enough to destroy your builds. Because of this you usually only play it to beat it and end up spending far more time in regular worlds because you put more effort into protecting the world and building in it.
On the subject of farming for the tabi, getting shield of cthulu would work too. That thing has almost singlehandly killed my interest in normal mode since it's now too psychologically painful to play without a dash until after queen slime
Yeah, this is the exact reason that, even though I'm really not that good at Terraria, I can't play in anything but expert mode. I *need* that shield, ever since the very first time I got it. And I usually play with friends anyways, so they can help carry me through the parts that are always too overwhelming for me, even on normal mode. And then we both get loot from bosses because of treasure bags!
see back when i was "scared" of expert (for some reason i still dont understand why i was) id just go to an expert world after i had some decent gear for it, then return to normal
I see master the way you see Expert. What I like about expert is it gives the player more options, which is great for a higher difficulty level and is something more games should do. Master feels so arbitrary and lazy though. I never found expert difficulty to be a bad thing at all, in fact I like it a lot.
Yeah, I'm doing master mode summoner, and it's hell. I feel almost no difference from this and expert other than bosses. It's just for bragging rights I think, you don't really get any useful mm items. I'm trying to get Terraprisma and honestly it's drained a lot of the enthusiasm I've had for playing.
@@nicokilg8529 IIRC the two substantial game changes (i.e. not stat changes) are boss relics and an extra accessory slot for free. I enjoy it despite its difficulty but I totally get that it isn't for everyone Edit: And it definitely is just for bragging rights, I remember them saying as much (but don't remember the source) Second edit: And extra pets. Gotta love the boss/miniboss pets/mounts
About the pillars: They are challenging for all classes, but the easiest classes to do them with are summoner and Mage. Pure Melee is the hardest, and you having not done them on expert before, were going to have a bad time. Other than that, I agree they are the worst part of Terraria (other than post plantera dungeon) and that the respawn timer change is ultimately useless
I know your comment is like 5 months old but theres a mod that adds a 5th pillar i forgot which mod it was though might have been tremors reloaded back in the day when it was a thing
i dont get the point of a respawn timer outside of multiplayer boss fights. obviously, itd be unfair if you die and can instantly respawn to fight the boss, but i cant see what purpose it serves in regular gameplay besides bogging down gameplay. i think on singleplayer and multiplayer, excluding bosses, there shouldnt be a respawn timer.
10:56 I don't get why everyone hates the second phase on the martian saucer, you literally just turn after every laser, in my opinion the second phase is easier than the first
He will just spawn it back in so it doesn't really matter anyway. Plus terraria is a job for him. He makes his money off of it. And making a funny clip of him throwing it out, helps with his videos, especially since again, he can just respawn it.
@@MrChainChomp he wouldn't but my point is OP said that he wasted time since he deleted it but if he still wants zenith, he will just respawn it. No time wasted
7:49 You can also destroy the walls with a hammer so Plantera's claws can't grab onto the walls. It slows her down and helps with the second phase. If you're building an arena already anyway it doesn't take up that much more time.
Yup you can also take it a step further and just put a teleporter on each side with a switch to easily move back and forth. Only issue is you need piercing weapons as the tentacles respawn so quicker in expert/master mode.
I have to admit that the pillars are fun the first time, but by the time after you fail Moonlord and have to do them again, you realize just how painful they are going to be. This is why I like mods that let you skip them.
I honestly don't have much of a problem with the pillars themselves, although, I do wish the Pillar Mobs had a chance to drop their respective frags, as the pillars have a chance to drop dismally small amounts.
@@Sassaparilla if they added that the pillars wouldn't be as annoying,i might actually want to wait and keep attacking enemies instead of destroying the pillar when the shield is down for extra fragments, more fragments = less times you have to fight pillars for celestial sigils
Honestly you are easily my favorite terraria youtuber. No annoying voice-overs, no pandering to children, just simple, enjoyable content. You are also fully honest about everything, and you treat your fanbase as if we know how the terraria progression works (as opposed to some youtubers, who drag out their videos every time explaining exactly what they are doing). Obviously, some people like that style, but I really love your method of content creation. Also wand of sparking op pls nerf
Expert is one thing. Master literally removes spawn I frames so that you can get spawncamped by a day two goblin army. You don’t even damage the goblins cause the damaged ones walk off and despawn so you can’t kill any
While I enjoy the added difficulty and rewards of expert mode, it’s obviously a personal choice of mine. But for a challenge like swords only, I definitely think sticking to classic is the way to go since it eliminates three weapon classes, and then some in the form of yo-yos
Good on wand of sparking for being actually honest and setting the bar to a comfortable level for himself instead of mentally torturing himself and putting in way more hours than he would have needed to to make great content for all of us. Edit: reading back on this I realise it sounds really sarcastic but that isn't the point of it lol
In all honesty, even though I sometimes I feel I was doing a slow progression, switching to classic difficulty suddenly makes things... boring. Even though I barely have any time to play Terraria already. To be fair, maybe challenging and demanding gameplay is not your field. On the contrary, you are specialized in building and video making! I can set up farms and overprepare major steps, but not patiently build aesthetic constructions! Find your style. Express yourself.
While I agree that one should play how they like I enjoy playing in master NOT because it takes 'more time' because its a fun challange. Increased drop rates and accessory slots are also massive for me. Not to mention the expert and master exclusive items. Edit: im not a veteran whos very good at the game. Im just a beginner who has played for 2 months
I introduced my friend to Terraria by playing a multiplayer server with him, killed QB about 5 times to try to get a hive pack before finally looking at the wiki and realising it's expert only; I don't think I've ever made a normal mode world on desktop (I used to play mobile back when it was 1.1, however)
Thank you for all your music choices, seriously. It takes me straight back to my childhood and makes me enjoy the video 2000x more. All the zelda soundtracks + super marios galaxy and more just make me love this channel too much man. Thank you.
Man I never knew that there was such a huge difference between expert and classic, I thought it was just higher def/atk/hp for enemies and bosses, treasure bags, and exclusive expert+ drops
@Me when I was born I've only ever done one Master Mode FTW world. I tried to make it the worst I could, to experience the worst of Terraria. Master Mode, For The Worthy seed, Crimson, Large, Playing Summoner, Singleplayer.
You should just do a series in master mode and each episode has a different challenge you have to do Edit: hmmm after watching the video maybe thats not such a good idea lol
I'd love to see some Subnautica, it's one of my favorite games ! I play it two months per year because i'm thalassophobic but hey, some day i'll finish it... surely
Normally when I play games, I always try the hardest difficulty first because I'm a firm believer that bad habits are hard to break. Terraria's expert and master modes have changed my perspective. The first time I ever played Terraria, I played expert mode; and I have never been so fed up with a game before. It took me months before I decided to actually try to game again and just play on Classic; and now it's one of my favorite games and I can get through Master reasonably well. I understand the struggle with hating the grind, and Terraria's luck based design when it comes to certain important items is definitely infuriating. For a game that isn't an MMO or a gacha, the drop tables in this game could certainly fool you into thinking it was.
the comedic timing of 12:00 had me d e a d also i really like how you talk about what makes a challenge fun vs frustrating, totally agree on that front. the point of a good challenge is to problem-solve your way through it, not doing the same thing as usual but just for a longer period of time and with more incentive to rage quit
I dont care about the pillars that much that by now I get my endgame character and just clear them, of course switching back for moonlord. I also use that character to make arenas, espacilly a plantera Arena with the drill mount (dont know the name anymore) because it doesnt make things easier, just less time consuming and more fun
FYI: They didn't *add* an extra phase to the Martian saucer in expert mode, it was actually *removed* from normal mode as of 1.4 - in 1.3 all difficulties had the berserk phase
FINALLY someone talking about how fucking unfair the pillars are. Also at the part where you gave yourself fragments, I can relate to that when playing modded (cuz I fucking hate the grind, so I just whip out Cheat Sheet lol)
I don’t think there’s a single human who enjoys the pillars. Easily the worst part of the game which is mainly anything post plantera in all honesty. Games just a big love-hate relationship
"no submarines run for subnautica" heeey, sounds like my first playthrough! the game just wouldn't give me the last part of the seamoth to scan :( running into the reaper leviathan with only a knife and flashlight was pretty funny though :)
i dont know why everyone hates making arenas, its literally my favourite thing to do in terraria. Also just use bombs and dynamite if you really dont feel like digging out an 150x120 arena
I 100% feel you. I have over 1000 hours logged on terraria and tmodloader but the moon lord and Martian invasion make me want give my monitor a new HDMI port with my fist. Even having played the Calamity mod on its hardest content-adding mode (death > revengeance > expert) I still firmly believe my worst experience with this game is the miserable grind to get across the finish line. Moon lord is an obnoxious boss to summon and the Martian invasion is bullsh*t. I’m glad you’re confident enough to not put up with it and instead give yourself an actually fun experience. Keep on keeping on!
You should do a Terraria playthrough where your weapon, armor, accessories, and potions have to be for different classes. For example, you could fight mech bosses with Titanium set with mage headgear Daedalus stormbow Fire gauntlet, wings, lightning boots, warrior emblem, and anhk shield Summon, regen, ironskin, wrath/rage, and endurance potions.
fun fact: the first time i played terraria on pc was on mastermode. It's now the only gamemode i play (btw i crafted zenith legitimately on that playthrough and it was with two other friends [we suffered]) i did end up being tanky enough to afk a moonlord fight tho with only 2 heart statues Edit: lanterns -> Statues
4:26 actually it's not double the drop rate it varies. For example the chance of getting a rod of discord is 0.5% chance from a chaos elemental but in expert, the chance is 0.67%. don't ask how I know this itotally didn't spend hours researching how to get the FREAKING ROD IF DISCORD FASTER BECAUSE IT TOTALLY DIDNT TAKE 3 DAYS OF GRINDING TO GET
There are definitely some weird design choices added to expert mode, which you did a good job of highlighting. I feel like just focusing on the negatives, and using the added difficulty to support a specific biased narrative (expert mode only serves to lengthen the game) is more than a bit unfair to the mode. It's totally okay to not enjoy the mode for the reasons you mentioned, but the discussion in this video was presented as criticism but came off as more of a rant. Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with playing on classic. Everyone has their preferred level of difficulty, and their own tolerance for difficulty to reward ratio. Personally, I don't enjoy master mode very much, as I feel it makes fighting enemies and grinding a lot more tedious without adding anything of substance, and that's basically the same reason you dislike expert. also i gotta say it but the problem with expert mode pillars isn't expert mode. it's pillars. fuck pillars. why did they increase the kill requirement though that sucks
I tried to go over the positives of the mode as well. Overall, the difficulty level isn't my problem with it, but the way it increases it. Just like you said about master mode. And yes, the pillars are obviously a dumpster fire in every mode, but they are purposefully made worse in expert.
@@WandofSparking I pretty much just hate pillars altogether, and I think most people agree. Super cool concept, fun to do the first couple times, tedious anything later than that. Otherwise, I agree that expert mode is a mixed bag of better and worse, but ultimately it's just what you enjoy playing. I guess the video did end up coming across a little more rant-y, but to each their own. Not gonna say you're wrong for liking classic, I enjoy a less tedious playthrough at times for sure.
I should also add, with the frequency at which you make these challenges, Expert or Master would just be a hassle in the long run. People don't realize how much extra difficulty there is in some of these challenges.
@@WandofSparking fck i had a whole paragraph ready to say why expert is better but 1 miss click and i did "print..." instead of "search on google" and it deleted it, but i think it would be cool if you just did a normal expert playthrough to try it :)
Expert is the one for me. I like the increased loot, drop rates, and enjoy the challenge but Master is the one that only makes the game more grindy and unnecessarily hard. I can see why you prefer Classic though, had you gone Expert from the get-go the mechs would likely have been impossible.
Master adds the spice to me, even though I have to grind *a lot* and by *a lot* i mean *a fucking ton* but the bosses for me are much more fun than classic, the fights feel fair (golem excluded, golem/10) especially the mechanicals bosses, it's not a 1 mistake - you fucking die but later in the game you question your existence
Best way to deal with expert (and even master mode) plantera isn't to just make a huge arena. Sure that will help... but mostly for the first stage. The BEST way to deal with the 2nd phase (which I don't personally do) is to just travel up your hellevator in the jungle as it chases you. You can just shoot down. Not much it can do but try to chase you.
Interesting I didn't actually know anybody played terraria on normal difficulty. It kinda feels like a tutorial version to me because a bunch of content is expert mode only. Also in terms of difficulty I think expert mode is too easy. I started out playing normal mode but moved on as I got better at the game. I kinda saw that as the point of the mode.
@@benismann absolutely correct. The last part of the video is just "expert mode too hard so I'm angry waah waah" it's completely ridiculous ranting from a dude that's just bad at the game
im not great at the game but i honestly prefer expert mode. it actually makes you think about how to use your resources to your advantage, what kind of weapons and armor to use, etc. (the way an rpg is meant to be). plus you cant just sit still and tank bosses in expert mode and actually have to learn to dodge. i do understand that a lot of these challenges would be insanely difficult in expert mode though and normal play can be extremely frustrating at times, so i dont blame anyone for playing in normal mode. the respawn timer thing and the pillar thing are completely bullshit though, i agree. its not a perfect mode by far but it has a lot of cool features that make it more fun for me, like treasure bags and expert mode exclusive drops, extra boss attacks and phases, and of course the 6th accessory slot that adds just a little bit more diversity to your builds
I am the type of masochist who plays exclusively on Master Mode despite being the worst at Terraria of any of my friends... Like hell I even know I'd probably have an easier and arguably more fun time on Expert Mode or even Normal Mode yet I am stuck on Queen Bee because I guess I just hate myself. Also those Gold Statues and Pets are awesomesauce~
Man, you managed to perfectly sum up a lot of the issues I have with expert mode! I hate the arbitrary nature of some of the difficulty increases, and I absolutely loathe the ridiculously increased grind. Even that stupid 15 second timer is a pain, as (since I play single-player exclusively because no friends ;~;) I just want to get back into things and try and bash my head against the wall a fifth time instead of watching some casters shoot the spot I very recently just was. The increased loot drops are cool - getting a Sanguine Staff 100% of the time is excellent - and some of the unique items are really useful. The Demon Heart is really helpful. However, even when I have a lot of time on my hands, somehow, Terraria's expert mode makes it feel like I've done absolutely nothing for 4 hours straight, and whatever satisfaction I get from finally beating a tricky boss just doesn't make up for the dissatisfaction I've felt since I first had to spend half a day grinding up my gear. To an extent, I'm fine with games that require the player to "git gud" - i.e: improve their skills at playing the game, such as in Hollow Knight or Rain World - but when difficulty is defined more by increased enemy health, increased enemy damage, and a general increased grind to get where you would have been on an easier setting a day or so earlier, it's just frustrating. If a boss' movements are more difficult, or they have new attack patterns and maybe a few new attacks in general, that's pretty cool and fun because you - assuming you enjoy the game - get to relearn that particular boss. Arbitrarily increasing their health, bumping their defence, and increasing their attack damage, however, is just plain annoying. Obviously, it's always a matter of "you do you." Different people like different things, and when it comes to game difficulty, well, some people love just love the challenge of trying to break down a wall with a teaspoon and their forehead. For me, though, being berated for not choosing the difficult option every time feels a lot like being told to play a sport I hate in PE, and then be chastised for both being bad at it and not having a good time by my "esteemed" peers. Those guys can go and dig up a muddy field with their studded shoes, I'll be on the other side trying not to let my auto-aim target the teacher as I throw this javelin.
Having played this game for such a long time, I totally understand how you feel about expert mode. I remember when they added it I kinda had the same feelings, but the boss AI and unique drops and stuff kept me playing it over normal mode. I think a lot of expert mode is actually having to learn how to deal with boss attacks and using movement, what wings and other things you use matter a lot more, cause you often can't really tank things. If master mode didn't have all the little other ways to waste your time, honestly it feels like the way you should fight the bosses to me. That's where I like modded, to remove the respawn timer and improve those little quality of life things. Master mode is still just a big disappointment though, with bigger numbers for the sake of it and no reason to play it. I really like journey mode the best, I think. It's nice to have those tools to set the time of day and stuff like that so I don't end up sitting around waiting as much, and I can still have expert mode for bosses when I fight them. Looking forward to your other playthroughs!
personally, i really enjoy expert mode. higher drop rates, new exclusive boss drops, and the fact that i cant just build a platform and cheese everything (meaning, i need to actually prepare before taking things on, unlike in classic) makes everything feel so much more rewarding and sort of makes me stop and enjoy the game :) in the end i guess it boils down to what makes you enjoy the game. i love the grinding aspect (until it reaches the point where you need to build farms. thats too far) and a rewarding challenge, and expert mode gives me just that, along with drop rates that minimize the need for farm building. thank god
(Btw yes lmao, should've went for the offensive beetle if you're good at dodging, that is.) On expert mode you do spend more time on everything yes, but not only are common drops increased, but its also better for multiplayer cause of treasure bags. Exclusive drops aren't to be made fun of either. The best example i feel like would be is In classic mode, you get 20-40 Pillar fragments for every pillar. On expert mode, you get 40-60 (Always guarraenteed to make both weapons of each pillar and even get 8 super healing potions which is more than enough for the fight at the worst case scenario) And I feel like those factors make up for it. Playing on a harder difficulty and "spending more time" on it also severely increases your skill level on those aspects, which is always a good thing. Play the game you want it to, ofc. Just protecting the way expert mode works here though, xd
Honestly I don’t mind expert mode. I think the increased drop rates and exclusive items make the extra grinding worth it. That being said, I never usually have a problem with grinding in games so take that as you will. Master mode however… the earlier infinite flight mounts and pets are cool and all, but they don’t make it worth it imo.
@@Zusk0n Nothing, it's just that in regular mode, you don't need a full set of potions, the best Modifiers on every single item, and meta weaponry and armor, just to fight the first few bosses. Instead, you can just work on all that stuff gradually as you naturally progress and fight each boss, never being held back just because you need some rare drop from some enemy for the absolute maximum efficient loadout.
Lateralusticus but you don't need all of that for master mode too. sure they help, but at the end what matters is your skill. i personally have killed daytime EoL and moon lord with obsidian armour (though i did switch to hallowed for one attack pattern during 2nd phase EoL) though of course theres no real way to play the game. master and expert mode are for people who like the challenge, while getting rewarded exclusive items for the difficulty you're playing
I could hear the death screeches from everyone who plays terraria when you trashed the zenith. just. 60 decibels. and sounds like an evil monster from a horror movie crawling across the celling with their head spinning.
I'm glad knowing that there is a content creator who uses classic mode. In my 1st and ongoing mobile playthrough, others convinced me to switch to expert mode, and now I'm used to the grind and pain it provides, but I now see that it's okay to not beat something hard. I can't switch back to classic sadly. You're right about the double edged sword, it just makes it a longer grind. I'm just about to face the wall of flesh for the first time. Thanks for making your videos!
It's a strange thing but i oddly enough love the pillars despite dying many many times but i am fine with it because it doesn't despawn and it's a slow progression
I literally can only play Master Mode, so it’s kinda neat seeing stuff be so easy. Besides, if you play on Normal, there’s always the opportunity for someone else to do the same in Expert or Master
Not playing singleplayer, cant play non-msatermode too. It makes the mp games just long enough to slightly annoy u, which is like the ideal time. Anything lower andd especially normal mode are too short and too easy
Recently I mostly play on master mode, rarely expert and don't realy remember when did I last time chose normal mode. Game seems more ineresting to me if its a little bit more difficult.
I think that the pillars have a good enough concept but they they exicuted it was, as you said probably one of the most boring and frustrating parts of any game out there. That includes the mysterious gem quest from skyrim
Personally, journey mode is my favorite mode. It feels like the best way to play terraria - minimal farming, and can switch between expert and classic on the fly based on skill level so you can experience all the boss stuff and get the unique loot.
OK. A bit late, but for the martian saucer, the Shield of Cthulu would have worked just as well as the tabi, without requiring nearly as much time to aquire.
I kind of, forgot that some people struggle that much on expert, the first time I started playing terraria, I played on expert, and never even tried casual. First time was hell though, I quit a couple of times, because i got so annoyed :D But now expert, seems easy, not saying you should play on expert, just noticing that, it all depends on what you are adjusted to. You should, do Master just for fun, to see how far you could get, would be an interesting watch, but maybe instead of giving yourself a handicap, give yourself a benefit, for example, every time I die on Master mode, I can, give myself, one boss item (from the bosses I killed) or something like that.
Wait, I just realised, you used the Jetpack through Hard mode instead of buying the mech wings? And never upgraded your boots past the first upgrade? And you don't need the Tabi if you one shot EoC and got the dash shield - not as good sure but a super help. And the dodge from the brains expert drop is great too, but yes, Beetle shell armour is the right one everyone gets :) (btw, no 500 health?)
@@benismann I mean, it honestly is kinda funny how I only realised he still had the jetpack on, when he died to fall damage during the ML fight. It took me aback. So many wing options available and yet, Jetpack. Really just shows how incredibly easy normal mode is, that you literally have to do 0 farming to face tank everything.
Expert mode and master mode are actually good game design, because while most games 'hard' mode just decrease damage dealt and increase damage taken, here it adds new items, enemy attacks, and equipment slots. Wand of Sparking hates it, and thats fine, but I prefer expert/master as you actually have to plan and prepare and then play well. Classic mode you can just kind of do whatever and win, even casually.
@@FriendlyKillbot expert mode also does those things, and that's the problem. Like wand said in the video, the new boss AIs are cool, the enemies being health sponges and the arbitrary long-ass respawn timers are not
Calamity's Revengeance and even Defiled modes are a much better example of difficulty increase. Death mode is just annoying though, with the weather effect crap.
@@FriendlyKillbot I love expert but hate master. Master does exactly what you said, give stuff more health and damage and only adds cosmetic stuff and an absurdly overpowered mount in the form of a pirate ship. Expert gives a ton of unique items and the extra accessory slot allows for more options, not less.
Fun fact to make the pillars easier: the stardust cells each count as an individual enemy, so you can lure a few away from the pillar to make them the only enemies there and let them reproduce and keep killing them. They also can't go through platforms, so you can sit under one and kill them and let them reproduce until you've reached the counter

But it was a good change, I hated just hiding under a layer of blocks just spamming my hatchet
@@MuffinTheMicrobiologist well, they also made the laser go through blocks. so
This is how I would describe each mode (Excluding journey mode):
Normal mode: Its very intuitive and takes little to no preparation.
This is why there are different modes you can make your world, not everybody is the same.
i am tempted to play on expert and revengance from calamity just to get extra content and in my revengance game im pre mech still

the comedic timing of 12:00 had me d e a d
also i really like how you talk about what makes a challenge fun vs frustrating, totally agree on that front. the point of a good challenge is to problem-solve your way through it, not doing the same thing as usual but just for a longer period of time and with more incentive to rage quit
First Time: "I love this, they should incorporate more things like this!"
Ten thousand's time:"Not this S**t again"
I dont care about the pillars that much that by now I get my endgame character and just clear them, of course switching back for moonlord. I also use that character to make arenas, espacilly a plantera Arena with the drill mount (dont know the name anymore) because it doesnt make things easier, just less time consuming and more fun
FYI: They didn't *add* an extra phase to the Martian saucer in expert mode, it was actually *removed* from normal mode as of 1.4 - in 1.3 all difficulties had the berserk phase
honestly, the martian saucer is my favorite boss from an event
it has two phases and is actually good
FINALLY someone talking about how fucking unfair the pillars are.
Also at the part where you gave yourself fragments, I can relate to that when playing modded (cuz I fucking hate the grind, so I just whip out Cheat Sheet lol)
James agrees
I don’t think there’s a single human who enjoys the pillars. Easily the worst part of the game which is mainly anything post plantera in all honesty.
Games just a big love-hate relationship
I despise the solar pillar e even playing melee
I just go to builder workshop map and grab the spawner item for moon lord tbh, after I beat the pillars once or maybe twice
I just butcher the pillars that I do not have to deal with them.
"no submarines run for subnautica"
heeey, sounds like my first playthrough! the game just wouldn't give me the last part of the seamoth to scan :(
running into the reaper leviathan with only a knife and flashlight was pretty funny though :)
i dont know why everyone hates making arenas, its literally my favourite thing to do in terraria.
Would really enjoy a run of subnautica or below zero. Can't wait for all your saved titanium from not making submarines to go into pipes lol
You should do a Terraria playthrough where your weapon, armor, accessories, and potions have to be for different classes.
For example, you could fight mech bosses with
Titanium set with mage headgear
Daedalus stormbow
Fire gauntlet, wings, lightning boots, warrior emblem, and anhk shield
Summon, regen, ironskin, wrath/rage, and endurance potions.
forbidden / crystal assassin / frozen / tavernkeep armour would like to have a word
fun fact: the first time i played terraria on pc was on mastermode. It's now the only gamemode i play (btw i crafted zenith legitimately on that playthrough and it was with two other friends [we suffered]) i did end up being tanky enough to afk a moonlord fight tho with only 2 heart statues

WDYM two heart lanterns? To increase the effect range? Because heart lanterns' effects don't stack.

Nah I'm looking for people complaining about the pillars thing
@@mrmeowsermoney yeah fuck pillar
@@Junistheog personally I don't think they're that bad. Just get set up some teleporters and put a movie on in the background
I love the pillars
> Time consuming

Look man, do whatever ya feel like posting, I’m always gonna be there to support this content!
I mean, not to offend anyone, but the second part of this vid is basically "oh no i CANT TANK THINGS, so bad, bad expert, bad"

OMG I love the grand finale song he played during the first victory against moon lord, and all of them!
I loved this series! Hope you get more great ideas
Ah yes, the Zenith Blade! The ultimate Creations among creations, THE ULTIMATE WEAPONS!
*Yeets it into the trash*
personally, i really enjoy expert mode. higher drop rates, new exclusive boss drops, and the fact that i cant just build a platform and cheese everything (meaning, i need to actually prepare before taking things on, unlike in classic) makes everything feel so much more rewarding and sort of makes me stop and enjoy the game :)
in the end i guess it boils down to what makes you enjoy the game. i love the grinding aspect (until it reaches the point where you need to build farms. thats too far) and a rewarding challenge, and expert mode gives me just that, along with drop rates that minimize the need for farm building. thank god
(Btw yes lmao, should've went for the offensive beetle if you're good at dodging, that is.)
On expert mode you do spend more time on everything yes, but not only are common drops increased, but its also better for multiplayer cause of treasure bags. Exclusive drops aren't to be made fun of either.
The best example i feel like would be is
In classic mode, you get 20-40 Pillar fragments for every pillar.
On expert mode, you get 40-60 (Always guarraenteed to make both weapons of each pillar and even get 8 super healing potions which is more than enough for the fight at the worst case scenario)
And I feel like those factors make up for it.
Playing on a harder difficulty and "spending more time" on it also severely increases your skill level on those aspects, which is always a good thing.
Play the game you want it to, ofc. Just protecting the way expert mode works here though, xd
"More challenge means more grinding. It's a double edged sword."
Unlike the Terra Blade you used. That's a single edged sword
I believe people say Master Mode is easy because they always get the optimal gear and optimal arena for every single boss
YES BECAUSE THIS IS HOW THE GAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED
What's wrong with me farming the terraspark Boots in pre hard mode
@@Zusk0n Nothing, it's just that in regular mode, you don't need a full set of potions, the best Modifiers on every single item, and meta weaponry and armor, just to fight the first few bosses. Instead, you can just work on all that stuff gradually as you naturally progress and fight each boss, never being held back just because you need some rare drop from some enemy for the absolute maximum efficient loadout.
Lateralusticus but you don't need all of that for master mode too. sure they help, but at the end what matters is your skill. i personally have killed daytime EoL and moon lord with obsidian armour (though i did switch to hallowed for one attack pattern during 2nd phase EoL)
though of course theres no real way to play the game. master and expert mode are for people who like the challenge, while getting rewarded exclusive items for the difficulty you're playing
I could hear the death screeches from everyone who plays terraria when you trashed the zenith. just. 60 decibels. and sounds like an evil monster from a horror movie crawling across the celling with their head spinning.

Proud to be one of the seven people who loves the pillars
This run gave me massive nostalgia for 1.2, as the terra blade was the big op weapon for 1.2, much like zenith is for 1.4
I'm glad knowing that there is a content creator who uses classic mode.
I definitely like the idea of the no submarines subnautica run, you should try that.

I just cheese the drops by switching to Master right before I kill a boss to get the bag and Master drop, then go back to Normal.
People don’t know that people struggle with expert, so they just say that people who play on classic are wimps
I think expert mode is great, because it gives an option to people like me, who have a lot of free time and actually enjoy grinding.
