The Ski Doo skid is set up better but the Yammi is definitely faster. you lose a lot of acceleration when you pull the skis that high off the ground. Plus the ski doo probably went through 8 belts in this video haha. good job yammi
The Yamaha needs to set his rear skid better. The front end coming up is killing his traction on the start. He clearly has more than the Doo. The Doo does have one less cylinder but has 200cc more. Talking to the OSP racing guys, they do full mod turbos for Yamaha, Cat and Doo. He told me he can get around 600HP out of the Doo and Cat/Suzuki motors but can get over 700HP out of an Apex motor in full mod turbo form.
There are people that get well over those numbers with all the engines apparently. Also, the doo is also lifting off of the start so wouldn't that make them even? Not taking away from the apex but y'know.. I'm a doo kinda guy XD

The Yamaha genesis engines that were taken from street bikes and became popular in snowmobiles with the RX-1 are in a class of their own. The new factory turbo versions can hit nearly 300HP with just a ECU re-flash. A 998cc engine that makes 300HP and revs to around 11,000 RPM on the snow machines and 13,000 RPM on the motorcycle version. No one is going to contend with that for years. Only Yamaha competes with Yamaha now.
Yamaha should have made a 800 triple 2stroke Yamaha triples were the best of any manufacturer, they coould go to the drags and be competitive and then go trail riding all day and never break down.
I would launch the apex at 10psi at 3800 rpm. Engagement at 4000. It was a beast off the line but its the only was to keep with the 1200 out of the hole. Once u were out of the hole the apex was always faster. It was unpredictable because of the mono shock rear suspension.
iv seen 5 800 ski doos blow up on river i have two friend who blew theres up this year also it tells me to stay far far away from skidoo. my 2000 700 yamaha has 12,700miles on it and can beat a 2012 f11 turbo cat out of the hole till 85 then he slowly pulls me at 105 hes 4 sled lengths ahead
That sound is a two step. When you use it you can keep the throttle glued to the handle bar and it will keep the revs at a certain spot until you let off the brake. It gives you a more constant hole shot.

Ski-doo has more bottom drag than the Yamaha, and in turn the yamaha has better top-end speed, in this video the Yamaha is clearly abit more tuned. ive buillt Ski.doo's, Yamaha's and an Arcticat with guys at SHS and i can tell you the Doo' doessnt go throuh more belts than any other sled, actually Yami and skidoo keeps em longest.
