I'M 13 and for my New Year's resolution, I decided to only eat sweets on the weekends or only on Saturday, cause I'm really addicted to them. I'll use this comment to document all this. Immediately the cravings were absolute HELL. Like I was sitting and I wanted to eat sugar so bad I wanted to cry. It got easier eventually, but I still often feel like something's missing, a sort of emptyness. One thing that's annoying about this is the social aspect. All my friends are also sugar addicts so I feel weird and awkward to decline a treat. I'm starting to realise how sugar is absolutely everywhere, and you really need to TRY to avoid it. This is actually the hardest part in my opinion. You feel weird seeing everyone else eat what you're actively avoiding.
@@MagicShow-y4esugar is awful for any ages. I know people that age that cut out sugar and felt so much better. Sugar only makes things like depression, anxiety etc so much worse.
i haven’t cut out sugar, but i have decreased the amount of “unhealthy” sugars i eat. i keep fruit i actually like around, so i can eat it easily. if i’m going to have a sugary treat/dessert, i add something to it to make it healthier and more filling like yogurt, fruit, nuts, etc. or i have a smaller portion and then some type of protein like a hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, slice of roasted chicken, etc afterwards. having the protein immediately afterwards helps lessen my craving for more of the dessert. edit: for me personally when i have protein, fruit, a “regular meal,” etc BEFORE my dessert, it doesn’t stop or lessen the craving for dessert at all, and i still want to eat a larger portion of the dessert. whereas eating a protein directly AFTER the smaller portion of dessert, helps lessen the craving for more. what works for one person might not work for others, so do whatever works best for you, your cravings, and your lifestyle.
As a nutritionist you need to cut out all sugar (but not fruits) for 28-30 days. You are craving it because you are physically addicted to it. You have to allow your body to detox from it and reset and heal your gut and brain. Eating sugar gives a dopamine hit. Eating the proteins is great but you should also be including healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, healthy oils, like avocado, and olive oil, or coconut and avocado. I lost over 100 pounds and have maintained it for eight years so far doing this, I was eventually able to add back in Certain sugars, but stick to coconut sugar, raw, honey, and raw maple syrup. You also want to make sure you are not eating refined carbohydrates, such as white breads and pastas.
“I cured my addiction by just stopping”. That’s not how addiction works. You’ve obviously never been actually actually addicted to or dependent on sugar.
So how are you supposed to stop addiction? There’s not moderation with addiction just complete abstinence, cold turkey and of course you’ll have withdrawal but that’s what happens.
What she said is true. You really have to learn will power and self discipline and cut sugar out entirely. After two weeks of cutting it out (even hidden sugars), I completely stop craving it. It's when I give in a little and think, "Oh, one chocolate chip cookie won't hurt", that I suddenly start craving it again.

People please know there is a difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian. This is so unrealistic and don’t get me started on that beef jerky. People often see these and go in with the goal of removing something entirely from their diet and end up creating a whole new set of problems by avoiding entire food groups. Whole fruits in moderation are an excellent source of fiber and other key vitamins and minerals in a diet. Please take the time to educate yourselves and don’t listen to a 60 second clip to change your entire diet.
And if you run into insufferable craving, squeeze two lemons into a glass of water, add two tablespoons of bio apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt. Mix until salt is dissolved. Drink in small sips for 10-15 min. No hunger no sugar craving. Do not overdo. You may want to add 1/3 teaspoon of potassium citrate to it if you drink it more than once a day. Don't drink more than three a day.
Or...hear me out....just eat the sugar in moderation. Then you won't be craving it like that AND you won't keep eating and drinking other things to try to squelch the craving and end up binge eating and still being unsatisfied at the end of it.

At the same time, I always complained to my parents that I was hungry no matter how much I ate. The hunger has been a problem in adulthood. I only recently learned that sleep impacts our hunger hormones. I wish my parents took me to see a doctor when I was younger instead of ignoring the problem. At 21, I became morbidly obese. I'm 25 now and got a gastric sleeve because nothing I ever did solved my hunger problem. I also finally started taking meds to fall asleep at 22, so I'm grateful that I'm fixing these problems.
A bit of dried fruit is ok. The thing with cutting added sugar is all the other things in those foods. Cookies are loaded with refined flours and processed fats too so cutting added sugar is a great guide for reducing these types of foods. Dried fruit is high in natural sugar per 100g but it also has other nutrients that are good for you. Be mindful of how much you eat but a dried fruit is far better for your body than a cookie.
