Thank you for this tutorial. I am beginning with after effects and I still don't understand any shit but this, it helped me to understand the logic behind the program.
Watching this makes me thinking selling his car, other computers and broken PS4 (with games!) buy a rig I can use to create using all the awesome editing software out there. What a time to be alive!
Great tut, Thanks! I have a green screen dolly shot that I need to match motion on a background still. My problem is getting believable perspective movement between the foreground subject (keyed subject being tracked by the camera on the dolly) and the background (a still image 30 feet behind the subject). So I have parallax to deal with that I can't figure out how to do in the motion tracking module in AE. Using POSITION works for x,y of course but ROTATION only works for 2D z rotation which clocks my image right and left not in perspective towards the vanishing point. I am guessing I need to promote this to 3D space or add a camera. Please help. Thanks.
Tip (especially when your channel grows) either ask someone you know to read your script or go to a cheap site like Fiverr and check out somebody with a lot of good reviews and who's available. The most professional ones (people doing radio/tv commercials) might add up quickly for a video of several minutes (although still cheaper than directly hiring a VO artist) but there are decent and good ones who'll read a 1-2min script for $5 so for $10 you have a nice voice over for your videos.
@postbusters How would you go about doing this with an already transparent rotoscoped file? Like, if I wanted to change the background to match the subject's movement.
Great tutorial... you should seriously consider getting a mic. It can really help your channel. PostBusters Also how would you remove the green shadows and yellow tint to make it perfectly neutral and feel like the actor is part of the scene, depth?
question I'm doing a project that will must likely involve green scree. i will be capturing my actor/dancer in the green room but the background itself will either a projection moving image or a separate background moving video, that has moving lights and stuff will it be the same process as you have done here when adding the background with a moving one or is it different.
Anyone know where I can find free HD clips of green screen tracking scenes with an actor for practicing? Would love some of a character just walking down a camera or with some stable camera moves around the person.
Thanks for the tutorial. Need your help on something. Must I track and replace a background on a full length green footage, most especially in music videos?
So, if you just move in two-dimensional room it´s easy, you can just work with a picture... but how to do it if you want to have three-dimensional movements like rotations etc.? especially if in my case you can´t film the background so have to choose sth from the internet... I just don´t know what I want exactly - if you watch the introduction of Galileo in TV, i.e. the anchor stays suitable to the theme on a cliff and the camera pans down so that you can see the bottom of the ravine - how to do? Probly you might need the surroundings as a 3D-object or ne a 360°-picture or sth like this...
I seen your Suggested Channel. The Anchor Is In 3D Room. You Should Use Softwares like Cinema4D or 3DsMax,etc. To Build a 360° Environment And Do Motion Tracking in AE, Nuke or Fusion.
After using the pen tool to make the mask. The outside of mask is still greenscreen and not black as in your video. Also pressing M isn't doing anything
AMAZING VIDEO! I was using a chroma screen, and my camera was blurry so I didn't get it right the first time, but I tried after, and it was perfect. Long process, but worth it!
what about if I have tracking points inside a garbage mask? betwen subject and backround, e.g. behind subject's hair... when i used 2 times keying i lost a lot of subject's clothes... i used blue background and green tracking points... maybe should i use blue background and blue tracking points with a less lightness to background?
Respected Sir, Excellent Video. Suppose I want to shot a scene like as: a.) POV: Myself Sitting with a table - desk with books b.) Camera Movement: Half Circular Axis Shot on a Dolly Track c.) Background : Preferably a Calf Farm Site In such a case how do i set up my bedroom with Green/Blue Screen. If possible do guide with your video Thanx in advance
This is an old video but going off of the set up of the software he is using I think it might be an older version of blender 3d, which is a free 3d software. This tutorial should still work for newer versions of blender if that's what this is, but there could be a tutorial for premiere. I hope this helps.

Robert LC - Digital Artist He doesn't have a microphone. Another option would be for him to buy a microphone.

Great tutorial!! Thanks you PostBusters!

Might really benefit from a drop shadow on your actor with that kind of background.
