How to HOUSE BREAK a Pit bull Puppy! (Don't Use Pee Pads)

- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2024
- In this video, I go over how to housebreak a pit bull puppy without using pee pads. Potty training a puppy or dog is a simple process that takes consistency. I like to take my dog out every 30 minutes and give a pee command to really teach them how. Housebreaking a puppy can seem frustrating at first, but you will reverse your potty training efforts if you use pee pads, thats why I dont encourage you to use them.

I live in an apartment, so bringing my girl out to pee all the time was quite a challenge. Instead got her pee pad, covered it with makeshift fake grass, and placed it on the balcony. She uses that, and I'll just clean it up every night. And when we're out for walks she knows to go outside on the grass.
Although we live in the house we don’t have a garden , ehhhh 🤷🏻♀️ just two balconies and a rooftop ... seems like I’ll be putting the fake grass over there too for real emergencies.. thanks for the TIP!!!! ❤️
Amazon has some so you do t have to buy fake leaves lol really handy
How do you clean the fake grass
@@alexsanchezdiaz42 we have a water hose at each balcony and also I use a lots of ethanol cleaner but now , he’s fully trained and goes just outside , i walk him 3 times a day!
@@alexsanchezdiaz42 also I gonna be very honest , although I have time to walk him a lot , I don’t feel like I am giving him the best and all that he needs . I have a toddler and pregnant . I get moody and just ….. husband is home at night after work , he does train him but I really feel like it’s not enough .
I am just worried he will turn into some stupid aggressive dog . Yeah puppies and dogs in general needs a lot attention and effort !
I have been using this ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU as a handy reference book. I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of...."how simple why didn't I think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
Pee pads are great for those people who work 8 to 10 hour shifts and don't have the time to take them outside every hour. Dogs are smart you can always transition to go outside to.
No they aren’t
@@realgtaglitches yea I was thinking. I work and take my dog outside. And it’s like he’s so used to going in the house he feels he only goes outside to sun bathe 🥹🥹
this is why we also have doggie daycare and pet sitters and dog walkers that are also willing to board pups and dogs for the day. pee pads prolong the transition to going outside since the dog never learns to hold it in. with apartments i would suggest just placing a pad on the balcony if its sturdy enough since it simulates going in the yard and will teach the dog to hold it.
People who don’t put time and effort into the train end up with any dog being different to potty train, stop isolating the breed, ALL dogs can be taught, it’s up to the OWNER to keep up and be on track
I just got a 3month old pit and just picked up the pee pad instantly glad i found this video thank you!!
Becoming a pet parent thank you for your videos I'm learning a lot of information before I buy one
I agree with you 100%. Just have to hustle the dog outside and praise when they go. They usually give you a warning sniffing around just have to stay on top of it. I’m lucky to have a house with a fenced in back yard but an apartment pup has to be tough. I did use pee pads for my 19 yr old mini schnauzer/Italian greyhound mix as he didn’t have much control the last couple months of his very long life.
My puppy no warning just discreetly walks off and does it, sometimes just walks up to me and does it.
I used ammonia and water to clean up their pee /poop. I use the word "potty". Now he is able to kinda tell me by barking and going to the door. I was consistent in letting him know that it was not alright to "potty" in the house. When he went outside i gave him treats and positive reinforcement. Now he knows that "no potty in the house" is a bad thing and "potty outside "is a good thing.
What did you do when the puppy peed/pooped inside?
^^^ 🎉👍🏻keep at it we all have accidents. They can hold on . Every 3hours not to bad . It’s normal. Plus it’s good get some air to be outside for a bit . 👏
Exactly how I’ve felt about them glad somebody mad a video over it much respect ✊🏾💯
Pee pads are not bad, and they do work. I've got a pup and a dog to prove it. My dog never relieves herself in the house and my pup uses the pads and outside. When she can hold her bowls and bladder longer then 3hrs, I'll remove the pads. What do you do when you can't go outside because of extreme weather? What do you when you live on the 14th floor? PADS 🤞🏿‼️
Or what do you do when you have to work? Make them hold it for 4‐8 hours? I don't like holding my pee so I know that they dont either.
How did you train the pup to use pee pads? Are the pee pads in the crate? Or you don’t crate while you’re out?
DITTO DESHIA---MY LIL 6 LB PAPILLION TEACUP SIZED DOG WHOM A HAWK CAN TAKE OFF WITH WHERE I LIVE & WE'LL BE PLAYING TUG OF WAR(A LADY HERE LOST HER PRECIOUS PUP HERE THAT WAY), I'LL STICK WITH MY PEE PADS WHICH SOLVE THE SAFETY ISSSUE & SHE BARELY DOES ANYTHING(AS FAR AS OUTPUT@ 6LBS). IF I CHANGE AFTER USE(I WEAR GLOVES & WASH MY HANDS & USE LYSOL ALSO) BEFORE PLACING A NEW PAD DOWN. WATS SO UNSANITARY ABOUT IT & HAVE A DEDICATED PLACE FOR HER WHICH IS A HUGE CRATE? WE ALSO HAVE A BATHROOM IN OUR HOME WHERE ALL OUR FAMILY MEMBERS DEFECATE. I CAN BET MY LIFE IT HAS MORE FECAL GERMS THAN WHERE MY FUR BABY GOES. 1 GETS DEEP CLEANED SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. THE OTHERS GET DEEP CLEANED 1 TIME A WEEK. FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I'M SORRY BUT I DON'T KNOW THIS INDIVIDUAL HOWEVER THERE ARE TOO MANY VARIABLES HERE TO CONSIDER & THIS MAN CAN NOT MAKE A ONE SIDED ASSUMTION THAT "PEE PADS ARE BAD FOR ONE & ALL" BCUZ SUCH A STMT JUST ISN'T SO. HE'S DEAD WRONG. THEY MAY BE JUST HORRIBLE FOR ONE BREED OF DOG BUT A GOD SEND FOR ANOTHER. THIS U-TUBE VID WAS ALL ABOUT HIS OPINION... NOT FACT. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
@@sharonglover185 My mom and I keep it out the crate when u catch him/her getting ready to pee or poop run over pick them up take them to the pee pad then after give them a treat and after 1 day after we got him he was using the pee pad Hope this helps!
I works for me to, my puppy 8s 7 weeks old and he will not pee in his crate or bed, he goes on the pee pad. Afterwards I pick it up and put it in a plastic bag and take it out with the garbage. Besides it -8 degrees here in Minnesota.
Good stuff...potty training is a full time job, but rewarding when it goes well!
Yes! Always reward!
Needed this vid a couple months back 😫
Better late then never!
How did it go
Do you have tips on what owners that have already introduced puppy pads should do? 💙
@@plantmommamiranda4573 ditch the pads and take them out constantly. It’s tough but worth it!
@@topbullies8536 they are definitely worth it. I've had them since birth and they have stolen my heart. 💝

I have rescue puppies, got them under 1 month. They are approaching 2 months, they’ve been using pee pads right next to the window looking into the grass. I’ve been told to not let the puppies out until they’ve received all of their vaccines. Which is 3-4 months ish.
1:57 Thank you I hate when people say that because it's not true.
Right!
My dog is about 3 months now and last night was the first night he didn’t pee in his cage while we were asleep.. but soon as I got out of the bed and he stood up .. peed right in it. He never poops in his cage though. Just pee
Your videos are a tremendous help to me and Lando Calrissian he’s 4 months old.
My pitbull pup is 6 weeks old, got his first set of shots yesterday, weighed in at 9.5 lbs, I’ve had him since he was 4 weeks old and hasn’t had one accident around the house with minimal accidents in his kennel… mostly goes outside already though
must not have a job
Great video, I’m going to watch more of these as I’m training my 8 week American Bully. We are on day 4 and he got the hang of going outside to our designated spot by day 2. The next thing I’m focused on right now is basically getting him to not use it in his crate. At first i gave him too much room causing him to use it on one end and sleep and play on the other so i just added the divider in their today. He only help his pee for three hours on the second day and now it’s like he cannot hold it. Idk what to do about it but we will keep trying different techniques until he catches on. I mean it is still early…😅🙄
How is your American Bully doing now? I’m going to pick up an American Pit Bull Terrier in a few weeks when he's 8 weeks old. I hope he learns fast!
Thanks bro! First time owner here I’m going to try this out
Thank you bro! I appreciate the info. I will definitely be hitting the 🔔👍🏼
For sure!!
My baby is giving me a hard time but I’m here to learn as much as I can 😢
I adoted a 3 month old red nose pit from shelter. It was winter and snow on the ground with 2 degrees. She trained herself to the per pads. When it got warmer I started taking her out. She has to pee very often. I took her to the vet they did every test to make sure she was ok. He said he believes it is because the shelter had her fixed to soon. So I will probably have the surgery done to help it. But the pee pads are a life saver for me. If she needs to go she goes on pee pad.
Thank you for getting to the points! So many of these videos are 15 minutes with 14 minutes of bullshit. You got 6 minutes solid info, Thank you!
I get my puppy tomorrow. I was headed out to buy a case of pee pads. Thank YOU I will not spend one red cent. It makes complete since why not to after watching this video.
Pee pads do work I brought my bully puppy home last night and put him in the crate with door open. He found a spot in the front corner and went. I know every dog is different but pads do work.
Absolutely agree with this gentleman but also a pee pad might come in handy in certain situations but he's right for the most part they defeat the purpose.
I appreciate this video I just got a two month old Brendl pit so helpful
I'm a first time bully owner and was told by multiple people not to take my dog out until she is vaccinated, so wat do I do to best potty train her?
my dog is small so it took a minute for him to finally master being able to hold it in long enough to go out. it took almost a year of carrying him out to the yard just to do business. i even had to wake up in the middle of the night to let him out then again at 7 am. kept picking up his indoor poops and moving them outside. even leashed him up to his mess as i would clean it up then take him out to where i placed his poops. Angry orange spray, baking soda with apple cider vinegar, and the weekly rug doctor rental from the dollar store became my new best friends. btw he was crated and leashed to me when i was occupied and i would treat him for going out and kept outings to 30 minutes each. it also helped that i had an elderly lab who helped a great deal with his training. using pads just adds an unnecessary step that unless you live in an apartment or have a disability you will eventually have to just remove if the whole idea is for your dog to only go outdoors. in most cases i would just look in to a well established doggie daycare, dog walker, or sitter that can come by for the day or have the dog at their place for the day.
Thank you , best advice i heard. My XL pitbull puppy will start going outside more often.
Spending time and setting a schedule is what works with any dog. If you can’t make a schedule work then don’t get a dog. When I was potty training my pup I realized he imprinted on me, if he noticed I went to the bathroom before he did I would come out of the bathroom and he would match what I did outside the door.😂 I then would say no and take him out and wait for him to go again. I made sure to take him out before I would go so he realized, he goes outside and people go inside. Had him for 5yrs now, love the little guy.
damn I needed this video a couple weeks ago, my pitbull terrier mix passed away 3 days ago due to parvo, hardest time of my life in a while
i feel you bro …
mine did too and it was the saddest and hardest thing ever 🥺🥺🥺 i had a german husky at first
Omg my dog was close to it I had to nurse him back to health
I Knew I Was Doing The Correct Thing And You Saying This Just Confirmed It! Thanks Family
This is SO HELPFUL!!!!! Thank you
I was told not to let my puppy out until she gets all her shots so rn I’ve been using pee pads 😅😅
Is it working for you ?
That's my issue too, mine is only 5 weeks old so no shots yet. That's the only reason I am using pee pads cause it cannot be in backyard. I have a Maltese and cat too. My Maltese uses pee pads and likes to go outside but she's already 10 yrs old.
@@stax3511 Yes. And now she has her shots so I’m gonna start working with her to use the bathroom outside. Once in a while she’ll scratch at the pad so I definitely recommend crate training in conjunction because the pads will be everywhere if you aren’t home( it happened to me twice). Their bladders are unpredictable though so unless you’re walking frequently, it isn’t as bad you invest in them until your pup can actually potty outside
Yea that’s what I’m doing right now
I was told the Sam thing because my dog can get sick off of other dogs
Hello you are so right about the pee pads they eat or chew on them and yes I do take them outside they are still babies 2 mos old a lot of practice and thanks for the information.
Of course
ive got pee pads for my puppies their 3 months old. I dont really have any other choice at the moment until their harnesses arrive in the mail.
My pit is 7 going on 8 weeks old, I’ve heard it’s bad to take them outside until all shots are done. What do we do meanwhile until shots are done? I’m confused
True very true
Same here
Not tru if you have a backyard or patio where you know for a fact a dog wasn’t there then your dog would be fine the only way dogs get sick is if the parvovirus was there n never cleaned
They will be ok in your yard
Thanks, will get the cleaner. We had pee pads and my bully is 5 months old and still NOT fully house broken.
Help! My pit bull puppy is 2 1/2 months old. I can't get her potty trained because my sister uses pee pads for her dogs who really go anywhere they want. My puppy does not understand I want her to go outside and will wait to come back in to potty. What can I do? It's so frustrating because there are so many excuses why they use pee pads. I think it's just lazyness.
Something that helped me is know when they need to pee or poop may not be easy. You can also feed them and take them outside after they eat and reward them when they pee or poop. You have to be consistent. Hope that helps!
I have a 5 month bully/Pitt I walk him every night before bed so he can poop and pee. I wake up at 6am to take him out for about 20 mins and he normally waits till I get home around 1-2 pm to walk him again. It takes time though!! Just be consistent
My pit bull pup will be home in may this is very helpful because we’re definitely headed to get pee pads
Since my puppy is less than 3 months old i can't take it outside to do it's business, could i use pee pads until it gets the injection and then start training it to potty outside ?
My rott n Pitt are such smart dogs.. as long as I let them out they don't poop in house, my pit puppy likes 2 please.. very attentive. 5 months old I my take her out every 3 or four hours...I put pea pad down at night only by door, if we don't make it to let them out they r trained to only use it when we're all sleeping
Awesome!
Pads definitely work… all the points in this video are personal experience,. It’s all about how you train em.. pads are a good alternative when youre not home
It trains them to use the bathroom inside.
I always catch my puppies right before they pee and poop but when I strap them up to go outside, they just use the bathroom while Im putting there leash on
I trained my frenchie to use the pee pads in his crate when i’m not home and can’t walk him but to never poop in the house when i am home, cause i’d walk him
Yah but Vet said new puppy has to have all his shots before he can go in our backyard
So yah we have to use the pee pads till his last set of shots
Usually you should get the puppy vaccinated already but ok
I get what you're saying but my pup can't go outside until he gets his last set of shots so what would you recommend? I take the risk of infection?
life saver bro. appreci8 thiss 1. thym pads been pluck'n my nerves 😏
Hey G.
New subscriber I like your content , so I see you also have more than 1 dog.
When they are to young for shots can they still be taking out to be potty trained? How cruelsual is it?
I have a pit XL he doesn’t like going outside cause it’s too cold right now. What should I do?
where can i get the cleaner man? , appreciate the content im trying to train my pit puppy right now , just having a hard time in the nights when hes waking me up.. Do you got a good night schedule i could do with my puppy bro?
Hey man where did you get that canvas behind you on your left?!
iWish I would've found this video📹 a few yrs ago lol! Still very Useful and Informative. 🏁🏁💪🏽💪🏽
This is very very good mate.
We got a new pit puppy and she uses the pad in her crate but tears it up later. We both work 9 hours a day.
What do you recommend when you live in Nevada and the soil is riddled with Parvo. I have to use puppy pads for now cuz she only has her first set.
Great video. I dont have anyone to take new puppy out while im at work. Do i leave food and water in crate while im at work?
My pup doesn’t have all her shots yet she can’t go outside rn. Should I teach her to use the crate for now until she’s cleared to go outside?
I bought pee pads for my puppy but he sees them as a toy and doesn't pee on it🤣 he just turned 10 weeks today and pees 85% of the time outside. So proud of my little boy🥰🐶 I'm not going to buy the pee pads again!
Awesome! Just keep training and working at it!
Dam i wish i watched this 3 months ago. But thank you forthis. Better late than never
Can you touch on if you work a 9-5pm? How to go about potty training. I just got an American bully He’s 8wks. But I’m getting ready to work a 9-5pm and in about 60 days I won’t have anyone at my house who could help
Pee pads do work, but not at 1st and not when they are super young. I say around 4 to 5 months is where pups get use to using them.
Thank you thank you, just got my first pit puppy today and the most worrying thing for me is the bathroom so I'll have to put a lot of effort
I have a 7 month old bully I have the pad in a holder with a grate on top for when I'm at work. But when I'm home I have bells hanging by the door he rings to go out. It seems to work. Do you have any suggestions for if he eats his #2? It's rare he does it but I'd like to stop the habit completely.
There is no link for the cleaner! 😭
I mean I know I can look it up I just like using new products on recommendations. Thanks for the great tips tho!! I have 4 pittie mix dog. Momma and 3 of her babies. 💗
Just fixed it! Thank you!
Thank you for all that you do. I've just tossed all the pads I had down and treated my pups favorite marking places with vinegar to soak before I go and shampoo my carpets. Puppies are soo much fun! 😆💕
My American bully XL puppy is about a month in a half years ago. He was born in 10.29.2021
And he just got the first shot, the (5 in one)
So is it ok to take the puppy outside?
So I can try and tran him?
My dog is 9 weeks with all of her shots. Is she able to go in the grass now to go to the bathroom outside?
Question... what to do when it's heavily raining and your pup is 8 weeks? Because he doesn't want to even be outside in this. (Southern States) so, we talking heavy heavy rain.
Where do u get the cleaner from to remove scent. Thanks for info
"Idk why people believe it works.." because it does work. Ive trained various puppies to use then and was able to quickly potty train them. Did the take "5-6 months" like you said either. 🙄🙄
Ok
I just adopted a 1 year pit bull from the shelter 2 weeks ago. He’s peed a few times in my house and quickly hides afterwards. I can tell he’s scared. Would I just follow the steps you gave in the video to correct the problem? Also he jumps on furniture and kitchen table. Any recommendations?
Hi
I have a 4 months old matipoo
He is still not doing his biz outside
Ir vdo helped me not to get frustrated
Plz suggest anything else I shd do.Btw i live on 2nd floor apt
My pit puppy learned quick to go outside and poop and pee he’ll let me know by sitting by the door or come and get me. I never put my dog in a cage ever. But can you do a video on dogs on a leash my 4month old pit hates a leas?
I have never used pee pads for that reason. 20 min after a meal I walk my pup. I shower her with praise. I made sure to not leave food available at all times having a strict feeding schedule and walk her every hour in the exact same area. I pick up her droppings daily so she does not walk in them and hose down the area periodically. I wipe her paws and underside with a warm washcloth and and occasionally use an all natural soap like fragrance free Dr. Bronners (she has sensitive skin and everything else made her break out in a rash) so she can become accustomed to me grooming her. The few times she did go in the house I immediately caught her and gave her a gentle shock with the change in my tone of voice to show my displeasure followed with a stern no. I clean the area immediately. She has now been with me for two weeks and is eight months old. She cries at the door to go outside. I leave the door a cracked open, weather permitting, and she goes out on her own. It does not take long to train them but it is exhausting. She is NEVER alone. Just like a child she will learn if you put in the work. She is adjusting beautifully!
EXCELLENT ADVICE........GREAT JOB, KUDOS TO YOU....
Hello so I just got a new puppy and I need some advice I take him to the bathroom outside to pee every 30 mins to an hour but when I’m at work he’s here alone is it possible to where I can train him to use the potty pads inside until I get home ?
I'm trying to litterbox train my dogs, trouble is finding a litterbox container big enough for dogs. The crazy ____ two houses down has like 20+ cats coming in our yard at night dropping their diseases and worms! Don't get me started on the fleas, man I'm having to wash them like 3 times a week. Hard to do working full time.
I have a 6 month old mini pit she is beautiful, and I love her so much. But she is a princess and doesn't like to go out if it is raining. I don't yet know how she is going to deal with SNOW. She has a bad habit of not making it out of the garage. I do like that better than in the house, but it isn't outside.
8 week old pit/Doberman. I have been using the pads and keeping her in a separate part of the house because I have a year old Yorkie. The new puppy has had one set of shots, would it be safe to take her in my backyard where there is no grass on one side but just dirt?
They worked for my dog!!
So this is for dongs in their months can I use this for my 7 week puppy too?
I’m a new pit owner. She’s 9 weeks but lately where I live it’s been extremely hot to take her outside. I was told not to take her outside when the weather is this hot. What should I do?? 😩
i’m on the same boat as you. i pick them up to prevent them from touching the hot pavement and move them to a shaded area with grass. it’s a little better in the shade than in the sun. or! go when the sun has set
What they are saying is don't leave them outside when its hot. Its fine for them to be outside for a couple of hours, i would keep a big iced water bowl for them. But letting them play outside for a few is ok. if its a true house dog they aren't gonna wanna stay outside too long anyway LOL
I just got a pitbull/ lab mix he’s around 5 months and I’ve been taking him out and he owes fine but he just won’t poop and once I walk inside the house he goes poop. He pooped at 1pm yesterday and around 11pm I stopped him from going inside took him out and didn’t poop.. now it’s 9am and has not pooped idk what to do. Wonder if rehoming location or previous owners didn’t train him correctly
My 8 weeks American Bully pup is so calm, is that normal?
The reason why i use pee pad is because when it rained i dont know where im going to take my pup to pee or poop, as we dont have sheds on our backyard..any thoughts?
She literally pees 5 inches away from her pee pad everytime…seriously they really are pointless and yeah they do leak through. Thanks for this video it’s helping
We just got our Pitbull puppy on Christmas day and we have been showing her to go outside and now she let us know (Maybe Go away from us to go to the door but she is doing better
how long could a 6-7week old puppy hold their bladder ?
I have a 6week old mini poodle.. Just got him 2 days ago, will this still work for him?
Yes
My Pitbull are 8 weeks they get there shots Friday but can they go outside now to potty train with out there shots
Just what I needed
Thanks this was very helpful
Ok so i did want to train my pup to go outside but rn it’s mad cold 🥶. 30-40 degrees daily. My pup is 3 months old and short haired. You have any tips I’m getting tired of him just peeing everywhere 😐.
Puppy is 7 weeks old had his first shots last weekend is it ok to take him out to poop and pee outside?
Oh my word...I have a 8 week Bully I have been training to go on the pads...due to him not having all his shits...the area I've selected for outside is behind the garage and I know all kinds of rodents have been seen back there...I don't want him to get sick...how can I transition him now that he is going on the pads so well? Great video...Thanks...
I wrap a pee pad around the removable floor of my 4 month old bully's crate so if she does have an accident I don't have to clean up as much
I have a 7 week old blue and she already go outside when she’s ready go in the yard away from where we walk she also sit for a treat but it is really hard having a puppy
That was a big " caca" !!!😆😆😆
