Those Intakes are HUGE, Amazing Plane looks like it could fly straight into space
fuel for 5 minutes huh
wow
I could watch this all day.
Absolutely sweet sounding raw jet afterburner......
Almost sounds like Saturn V just a minute after it came off the launch pad, and it was roaring like hell in the distance.
16.5 tonnes of thrust per engine. The flame colour is amazing as well.
I love all the code names we gave the Soviet aircraft. Flogger, Backfire, Swingbat, Firefox, Rumplestiltskin...

There also "Helicopters" starts with "H" and there's also "Miscellaneous" aircraft that's name begins with the letter "M", but I won't list them all.
Eg. "The F-14 was designed to protect the Carrier Battle Group from Badger, Blinder and Backfire aircraft attacks that are intent on saturating target surface ships with "Vampires".
Translation..."protect the Carrier Battle Group from Tu-16, Tu-22, Tu-22M aircraft attacks that are intent on saturating target surface ships with Anti Ship Missile(AShM)."
So the Tomcats would go out and target these aircraft, preferably before they launched their loads of Vampires. If that Cold War scenario saw hordes of Badger Blinder and Backfire aircraft approaching the carrier group Tomcats would launch with the heavy 6 AIM-54 Phoenix missiles and the launch rails that hold the Phoenix into the "tunnel" between the engines. I find it impressive that the F-14 in the mid 70's could carry 6 1000 pound missiles on over 1500 pound launch rails at Mach 1.8.

Greetings from Scotland! I love to see these beautiful aircraft - they’re incredible.
Outstanding clip. The blue AB's are mind blowing and the crackling sounds more like a shuttle take off.
I saw one of these aircraft at the Farnborough air show many years ago. On take off you could probably hear it in central London.

I noticed ground crew don't use any ear protection around the aircraft even while the engines are running.
It's not very loud with engines on idle
They're Russian so safety nor intelligence are necessary.
Looked like the one guy at 1:00 was putting in ear plugs. Maybe Russians are happy to just wear those.
They are definitely using ear plugs, it gives you better protection, less discomfort, doesn't cancel human voice and you don't even need to yell to communicate.

What type of propellent and additives makes the afterburner glow blue vs US jets?
The US dumps more fuel in AB resulting in a brighter flame.
GPL
@@MrBen527 no it's because of partial combustion in US afterburners
@@mgtvnews6890 Right, because of the extra fuel.
Because the ruskie jets are fuelled with hydrogen based fuels, perphaps?
¡ MAJESTUOSO !
I have to give it to the Russians. They really know how to build turbine engines that are high quality and efficient. Or if you look at the color of the flames it’s blue/purple. Yes, our f-22 and sr-71 have/had very clean flames but our normal fighters are a yellow orange flame because they aren’t burning all the fuel. Now yes some engines are tuned for different altitudes but still the Russians build very clean engines.
The one we droned a few weeks back certainly burnt orange and with a lot of black smoke...

Every thing was ok but that C17 of Indian airforce 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice and stealthy no one would see that coming.
Your spot on,,Yes nobody would see it coming,,Because it fires its payload about 1000 miles from the target,,Which is about 700 miles out of reach of any current air defence systems radar or missiles,,And we know from Ukraine and the Ukrainian minister for defence who only two weeks ago in a interview with channel 4 news ,,He admitted that since the start of the war ,The Ukrainians using the patriot system have not once been able to hit a hypersonic missile or even hit one supersonic missile,,As attested to by Russia destroying 7 patriot systems so far ,,So yes this aircraft would be untouchable and its payload unstoppable by any western air defence system..

Fantastic machine.
Super masina
Why does this planes engines take so long to spool up amd go into afterburner on takeoff?
Probably because they are BIG. And the pilots are not in a hurry, are doing their checks, and push the throttle slowly.
The engines themselves are 1.8 m in diameter. The engines of the F-15/16 are half the diameter. This is a 120+ ton strategic bomber.
That sounds suspiciously like the Space Shuttle taking off, to me.
