  • Hey guys! This was the first wedding our video production company shot a wedding with the all-new Panasonic Lumix GH6! I have to say, this camera is a game-changer! Being able to film a wedding at 4k60p 10-bit 422 at only 200Mbps is absolutely insane! The IBIS on this camera is nuts. We were easily able to film handheld for some shots, without any problems. The low-light capabilities were also insane. This is an extremely underrated camera, and it definitely deserves a spotlight!
Please let me know in the comments below, what you think of the footage we got. Thank you so much for watching!

Great work! Really nice cinematography and great grading. I have an S5 and an S1 and maybe I should sell my S1 and get a GH6 instead? If the autofocus on the GH6 was REALLY good I would probably do it. Also, the fact that dynamic range boost ISN'T available in 4K 120fps is kind of a bummer.

That's awesome! Yeah man, I absoiutely love this camera, you won't regret it. And it depends on what settings you'll be filming the wedding in. The compression in this camera is badass. I was able to film the whole day in 4k60fps 422 10-bit V-Log on a 256gb SD card LOL. So if you're planning to shoot in the same settings, then that'll be more than enough. It's when you start filming in 5k or 4k60fps ALL-I that it gets pretty heavy on storage. But yeah, you should be totally fine with a 2TB CFexpress card! Good luck man! Let me know if you have any more questions!

    • @ShaneChanka
      @ShaneChanka  2 года назад +3

Thank you! And I absolutely love the GH6! There is a major difference between the Gh6 and Gh5. After using the GH6, I can't even use the GH5 anymore lol. The biggest difference is the insane compression. There is literally no option for 8-bit recording. You are getting 10-bit everything. The colors are insane! You also get that nice 4k120 10-bit, which is always nice. But honestly, this is from a very critical and picky videographer's point of view. For the average viewer, they wouldn't really be able to tell the difference if you know what you're doing. Watch my Hawaii video, the camera footage was all 1080p120fps scaled up to 4k using the Gh5, and i think it looks great for what it is! I hope this helps!

    Really good work. Congrats.
We are a filmmaking enterprise from Portugal and we work with gh5's. We are thinking to upgrade to the Gh6. And weddings is one of our main areas.
If possible we would like to ask you how it was for you with the Gh6? We mean, as a run and gun Micro 4/3, how practical it was for you guys?
Also, did you use autofocus at any time? If so, do you consider it to be reliable?
Thank you so much and congratulations on this awesome video.
    Kind regardss

Thank you so much!! Thats awesome! Cheers from the States!
The GH5 was actually our main camera before the GH6. But aftert switching over to the GH6, we cannot go back! The GH6 is an amazing camera and super underated. This camera was litterally made for the best quality run and gun setup. The camera itself is once again super reliable like the GH5, and even havea built in fan incase it does get hot. The compression for all the recording settings is very good. That means you will be able to film in 4k60fps 10-but 422 at only 200Mbps. Very good compression and dosnt take up much space at all.
The autofocus was another huge surprise to us! Its is WAYYY better than the GH5. The autofocus is actually useable now. I would say its about 80% reliable, and the GH5 is like 20%. I honestly used continuous autofocus for most of the day and had no issues. I only switch to manual, if im looking to get a specific shot.
Another thing to mention is the IBIS. There was also a major improvement on the stablization, and you can totally shoot the entire wedding handheld if you wanted to.
I hope this information helps and can help with your decision to upgrade. In conclusion, the GH6 is definitely worth the upgrade. Thank you so much for watching!!

Thank you!! And yes! The autofocus definitely had such an improvement! We actually used it for about 80% of the day! Obviously it has its quirks, but for the most part, it has significantly improved from the GH5. Very comparable to the SonyA7ii and almost the 1DX Mark II. Very good autofocus now

    • @ShaneChanka
      @ShaneChanka  2 года назад +1

Thank you! I really appreciate it! I’d say you can definitely shoot a wedding handheld. The only situation you might need a gimbal is for ceremony and first dances. But that’s completely up to you and your style of shooting for both of those events. We typically run 3 cameras on a tripod and 1 on a gimbal during ceremony. But I’ve done first dances handheld before and it turned out great! So yeah man! Just be sure to keep some extra batteries on hand because IBIS will eat through it

Thank you! And yes! I totally forgot to mention that, but the autofocus is amazing! Huge improvement from the GH5 and actually useable now. I wouldn’t say it’s the best or anything compared to canon, but it works just enough to use. I’d say its 85% reliable. The GH5 was like 30-40% reliable. We did use autofocus a lot. I think I used it more than manual focus that day, to be honest lol

I am myself pro and I have 5 marriages this season, I have just changed for the gh6.
I come to seek a little experience from you ^^:
    - Did you understand when to use the boost range?
    - You had set the autofocus to eye detection?
    - Do you expose your vlog to +1 or +2?
    - what lenses did you use? sigma 18-35+speedbooster?
Thank you in advance for this precious advice :) and congratulations again

Thank you so much!! Congratulations on the upcoming wedding gigs! These are some very good questions!
      1. I only used the boost range when I’m filming with major exposure differences in a shot. For example, putting the subject next to the bright window inside the dark room.
      2. I had to switch between face section and 1 area auto focus. Depends on the situation. Only use focus face section with 1 subject, as 2 can cause the auto focus to switch between subjects.
      3. Expose for +1 for Vlog
      4. I used a LUMIX 42.5mm f1.2 and 10-25 f1.7
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions! Thank you!

      - Very interesting, okay for the dynamic boost, but only indoors?
      - Ok for the autofocus, this morning after watching your video, I just tested the autofocus and I noticed that the AF in human works better than the face, but I will take your advice instead, you who have already tested this in the field
      - I assume that in the evening you did everything in manual focus? ^^
      - What was your bit rate/codec? 50 fps 422/10 bit longop?
      - and my last question, in single or continuous autofocus?
      Thanks again, really

@@wilfriedbrunel2445 You are very welcome! Glad to help!
      - You can definitely use it in outdoors too, for example, a super shaded area or under a big tree. So only use it in spots that have high contrast with exposure. It’ll help a lot.
      - To be honest with you, I kinda just rolled with the auto focus and never got to test it with human. But definitely try both and see which one works better. I would constantly turn on and off face detection depending on the situation.
      - if you have good lighting during the evening at reception, auto focus still works great. During romantics and sunset, it still works amazing.
      - I used continuous auto focus. But please always be ready to switch the manual focus in case it dosnt work. It’s a lot more reliable than the GH5, but it’s still not the best
Good luck to you sir! Hopes this helps!
