Though Beethoven's Sonatas No. 30, No. 31 and No. 32 were promised to publisher Adolf Martin Schlesinger as a set, they would eventually be published separately in three successive years, beginning in 1821. The three works bear the hallmarks of Beethoven's late style: complex, tortured counterpoint, challenging harmonic relationships and prominence of variations forms. In the case of Op. 109, the scale of the closing variations movement is such that it dwarfs the first two movements combined. The sonata was dedicated to Maximiliane Brentano, daughter of Antonie Brentano, whom Maynard Solomon has proposed was Beethoven's "Immortal Beloved". In the case of Op. 110, delicates melodies are juxtaposed with elaborate counterpoint and in Op. 111 the fugue and variation forms reach their apotheosis.
The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

This is one of the most beautiful works in music in my opinion. Thank you Daniel Barenboim…
I'm always amazed by the economy of movement of his relatively small hands. No wasted effort for show.
One of the greatest pianists of my generation
I was listening 'Patetica' Sonata. Then when it finished, it started this Sonata. And i thought "Nice this Schuman's Sonata". This piece is incredibly romantic... i love it
This is by far my favorite recoriding of this sonata
Everything is so perfect. Thanks for the great maestro.
Beautiful playing.
This is one of the finest performance ever...What a class! I love the whole series, thanks for posting.
barenboim is one of the three best ever interprenter of Beethovens music!!!!! Love him on Beethoven. A *Living Legend

I´m speechless by listening the 3.mov., the Variations (7:19)! This is "heaven on earth"
Vom feinsten, für mich unübertrefflich allerzeit.
Cosmic level grace put to music. Why do I even try any other pianist than Bareboim? It's a futile endevour.
No, it´s not futile, not at all. Try Richter, Gilels, Gould performing the same sonata.
Большое спасибо за Бетховена и Баренбойма, EuroArtsChannel !
Unfassbar großartig!!!
Es impresionante... no lee la partitura..y la expresion en cada frase...es espectacular...
Gostei muito.Obrigado.
Why so much focus on Barenboim’s face instead of his hands?
That’s a good question. The reason why it shows more of his face, It represents a lot of expression throughout these 3 movements, including the 3rd
Great pianism!
Why do all these films seem to say the sonata being played was dedicated to Haydn? Only the opus 2 sonatas were.
It says, for the No. 30, that it was dedicated to Maximiliane Brentano. Nothing about Haydn.

Wonderful. Thank you. Nope - a year later and have changed my mind. Have heard a performance that pleases me far, far more than Barenboim’s.
and who that performer may be?
Good for you
That does not change the quality of Barenboim's though
@@apostolismoschopoulos1876 : András Schiff in Japan, in either 2004 or 2014. But must admit I am very, very prejudiced against Barenboim for many reasons. In fact, I detest him as a person. And that will not ever change. But, of course, my detestation of the man colours my opinion of his music-making. It shouldn’t happen this way, but unfortunately it does.
@@quaver1239 may I ask you the cause behind those feelings you have towards him? Personally I enjoy his analysis of the beethoven sonatas
