A very young Yuja from 2009 who already treats Prokofiev as if he were her old friend. And Claudio Abbado is still there to sort things up. Wonderful! He died five years later.
Magnifique.
The combination of Yuja Wang's energy, technique and musicality coupled with Abbado's ability to inspire great orchestral performances make this the reference performance in my view.
After listening to Yuja's recording of Liszt's b-minor sonata Claudio Abbado chose her instead of Pollini or Barenboim for the opening concert of the Lucerne Festival. Well done! Even at this young age she played an incomparable rendition of Prokofiev's masterwork.
Claudio, in my judgement was one of the greatest conductors of all time. He chose Yuja because he recognised her talent. But, more important, he pushed Yuja to take the lead in interpreting the piece. That is why this is such a convincing performance. Most conductors of Claudio's stature would have felt they understood the piece better than Yuja, and pushed her to adapt to their view of the piece. The result would have suffered. Claudio had the ability, not only to recognise what a musician was capable of, but also to inspire them to deliver. His death so early in Yuja's career was a great loss.
Yuja seems to have this deeply intuitive understanding of the great Russian composers: Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, etc. Her phenomenal performances of the piano works of these composers shows an understanding and connection that can not be taught. I believe it comes from the soul. ❤
Exquisite perfection and the orchestra was definitely up to the task. What a thrilling performance! I couldn’t help but think how Prokofiev himself would have reacted to this..

This is the classical music that calms my nerves ! Fantastic ! Thanks for sharing
Nothing short of perfection. A soul-satisfying performance of one of the most difficult concertos ever written.
Early development of Yuja bow…..love it! 🍻
A very modest young Yuja. Lovely and excellent all-around!! Truly miss her like that.
Life and women move on from chauvinist mores...
@bloodgrss You are so pathetically predictable.

Yes--she delivers Russian sentiment more cleanly than Martha Argerich and more athletically even than than Alexander Malofeev.
@@prototropo I agree completely! Sometimes I think of her as a Chinese-American woman with a Russian heart!! 😂
Agreed.
VERILY VERILY , TRULY THIS IS THE GODESS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC.....
THANK YOU SO MUCH 🫂😍🫡🫡🔝🔝🔝

Very awesome music ❤
Intoxicating!
Claudio Abbado recorded this with Argerich and Kissin. It’s wonderful Yuja Wang got to continue the legacy.
Thanks Peter’s [HD]

I take it on faith that Yuja Wang is a flesh and blood human being. All my instincts tell me otherwise.

映像の撮り方に疑問です。
Yuja Wang
