Hooker Side pipes: Glasspacks vs STS Baffles insert vs open header

- I was changing out the exhaust and decided last minute to make a quick video to compare the two. The STS baffle center cap was completely removed. You're supposed to start out drilling a small hole then increase it to the desired sound. Hind sight, probably should have started drilling the holes first instead of removing it because it's loud. The open headers were so loud it initially put the camcorder in error mode and had to move it.
1969 Corvette Stingray side pipes
What a _beautiful_ angry vette!!! - In my humble opinion: These are the absolutely most beautiful lines of any automobile chassis that has ever seen the light of day!!! .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💓 Sensual - raw - just WANTING to be owned - driven and admired . . . . . . .
Very true comment 🇺🇸👍

Open headers for the win, of course! A great reason to allow yourself that opton. As for the other options, you'll need to decide what you can legally live with...either way...sidepipes are a great OPTION!!!
Open headers in my opinion sound the most gritty and powerful
Personally I like the baffles rather than glass packs on the side pipe deal. The cops won't like it at all and your neighbors will cuss you every time it's fired up. I've had them both. Baffles when tuned properly will give power&fuel milage but it's loud.
Nice Car. I love the way that the STS baffles sound. Thank you for sharing.
Same setup on my 76... But a with a 489BBC. Great sound.
Hard to tell in a video but pipes with baffles seemed louder and way raspier? I love how Vette headers primary's go all the way exposed to the side, I'd think those really long primaries would help make a pile of low end TQ...?
Trying to figure out what to buy for my stock '76 L-48 Stingray. Glasspacks or Reverse flow? Love the glasspacks.👍🏻
I have an 80 with headers and sidepipes, NOT really sure what are in the pipes but everyone sez it sounds really good
first one in town . second one for race day . they sound awesome
I’ll agree the look is perfect.
Nice comparison. Still a little more rev with open headers would have been nice. But I guess you have to think about neighbors also ;)
Get that damn STANKASS cigarette out of that classic vette. NOB!
I had a 72 with side pipes they are cool for about the first 15 minutes then they are just loud.
Eric where is you and your grandpa's video of the video. I loved that one
Love the car sounds awesome, my only question is why would someone smoke period🤮🤢 but even worse in a classic Corvette?
@69Stingray427
Sounds great, I just got a pair for my 81 505. I am going to drill 7/8th holes in them and see if my neighbors call the cops :) I was told the caps are just freeze out plugs so easy to change.
WOW !
THIS is a nice car !
me I prefer the first ones, really like when reveling
God bless you car lol
STS soooo much better, glasspacks are too quiet for a vette with sidepipes, its gatta have some balls when you rev it.
I’m a fan of Not so loud but with a deep rumble at idle.
Whats up with the door at the 2:20 mark? Looks different than I expected...what year is that? custom? Almost looks like a viper door!
undoubtedly STS FTW.
scarface115, I think the STS sounds the best out of the three.
Any tips on how to separate the side pipe from the collector? I'm having alot of trouble.
Sounds killer
If it was me i would just dump right after the Headers, but i love it to be stupid loud =]
I really would love a set of side pipes for my 1974. Fuck my neighbors, they know its a vette!!!!!
Did you drill the caps on those?
Def the STS baffles. Doesn't sound great sitting still, but moving down the road and coming to a hault... SWEET... Glass packs have always been WAY TO PINGY to me.
sounds better with the second set.
what size are your tires ?
Sounds great
I run my Hooker Outlaws "open"... sometimes, I run it open at the flange. Yea... LOUD...especially when hitting 5 - 6k on the tach.
thank you for sound
@TheCottonTop got that right.. sounds beast compared to glasspacks!!! STS ..8)
@BigJonNW where can i get STS's?!
Both sound good, but I like the glasspacks .... deeper ...
I've got the pipes for my 79,just need the STS's
Sweet sounds nice ride
Very nice Car congratulations!
@Crosisborg no there is a lot of space between the pipe and tha car!
My pipes are tight to my car, they make it tough to get a jack under the car, I have to step it up to get the jack under the car
sounds siick!!! where can i get some side pipes like that!?!
Sts
i like the glasspacks myself . but thats just me.
Sts and open header sound the same
should have showed the vid from same angle though to make it fair
Baffles Baffles Baffles!
Sweet!
Not a very good comparison. Everyone knows a glass pack muffler will be more muted than a baffled muffler. But, #1. the camera was further away from the exhaust in the glass pack portion of the video. #2. the camera was ahead of the exhaust pipe outlet as well, during the glass pack portion. #3. in the baffle video, the camera was closer to the exhaust plus it was placed directly in line looking straight up the pipe. Assuming that the audio was recorded by the camera's built in microphone, there is no way to judge the comparison as recorded due to movement of the camera. It is impossible to determine the difference in exhaust sound without consistent placement of the audio input device (microphone).
Thanks for your expertise in pointing out the obvious your feedback is invaluable! You should leave your contact information in case anyone is interested in hiring a professional production director such as yourself.

some of these cars came with side pipes from the factory. so no
glasspacks
Nice try, sorry guys. Fire your sound guy.
Now it sounds good with the state baffles.
Type in 77 Vette warming up on you tube and listen to my money pit. My car sounds better in person, not to great on video
The audio on the 1st wasn't even as good NOT a good demonstration
Glasspacks are cheap junk STS all the way!
