It's a Corvette thing.
First time taking the vette to the drag strip
Track was pretty wet and slippery after a hard rain the night before, traction was not friendly!!!

Thanks to my Grandfather for all the help

My Grandfather has been a huge help getting the vette running in tip top shape, so here's an appreciation video.
Hooker Side pipes: Glasspacks vs STS Baffles insert vs open header
Просмотров 188 тыс.16 лет назад
I was changing out the exhaust and decided last minute to make a quick video to compare the two. The STS baffle center cap was completely removed. You're supposed to start out drilling a small hole then increase it to the desired sound. Hind sight, probably should have started drilling the holes first instead of removing it because it's loud. The open headers were so loud it initially put the c...

Now that the motor is pretty much broke in and winter is almost here, it's a good time for some pre-winter 'exercises'

For the first time since 1984, and after a year of work (body-off restoration) it's on the road again!

After a year of hard work (body-off restoration) it is now driveable and moves/stops on it's own power, first time since 1984!

First time having power and firing up since 1984, after I rebuilt it from the ground up...after a year of hard work.
Halfway through the restoration

A tribute frame-off restoration of an L71 Corvette 427/435hp (Dads vette until he passed in 10/05), 32,693 original miles. In the video it shows aftermarket intake/carbs, but I finally restored the original tri-power setup and have it back on the vette. Also switched to monospring suspension, but have the original cleaned up and set back.
Nice try, sorry guys. Fire your sound guy.
Trying to figure out what to buy for my stock '76 L-48 Stingray. Glasspacks or Reverse flow? Love the glasspacks.👍🏻
I had a 72 with side pipes they are cool for about the first 15 minutes then they are just loud.
Open headers in my opinion sound the most gritty and powerful
Sts
How is this a restoration video?
Hard to tell in a video but pipes with baffles seemed louder and way raspier? I love how Vette headers primary's go all the way exposed to the side, I'd think those really long primaries would help make a pile of low end TQ...?
Some real professional restoration by you fellows!! one of the four most saught after vettes in history of their muscle engines!!! That L-71 is awesome
I’ll agree the look is perfect.
thank you for sound
I run my Hooker Outlaws "open"... sometimes, I run it open at the flange. Yea... LOUD...especially when hitting 5 - 6k on the tach.
Excellent. A1 Top-notch.
Sounds killer
Awesome video making memories. That will be something that you will never forget. Nor will he.
Nice Car. I love the way that the STS baffles sound. Thank you for sharing.
Not a very good comparison. Everyone knows a glass pack muffler will be more muted than a baffled muffler. But, #1. the camera was further away from the exhaust in the glass pack portion of the video. #2. the camera was ahead of the exhaust pipe outlet as well, during the glass pack portion. #3. in the baffle video, the camera was closer to the exhaust plus it was placed directly in line looking straight up the pipe. Assuming that the audio was recorded by the camera's built in microphone, there is no way to judge the comparison as recorded due to movement of the camera. It is impossible to determine the difference in exhaust sound without consistent placement of the audio input device (microphone).
Thanks for your expertise in pointing out the obvious your feedback is invaluable! You should leave your contact information in case anyone is interested in hiring a professional production director such as yourself.

first one in town . second one for race day . they sound awesome
Sweet sounds nice ride
Im looking to do something like this with this model car, got any advise?
I would get the assembly manual and the shop manual; if you are going for originality the NCRS judging manual is good too. Take lots of pictures, label and bag everything as you go. If you get stumped turn to one of the corvette communities and search their forums and ask questions, there are a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people who can help. Plan ahead and anticipate the upcoming steps. Like how much time will it take to do, what parts will be needed, how long for prep, restoration, and finish. Take into account the "while i'm at it" tasks when planning. It's not fun when you have time to get things done but you are stuck waiting on part, things to dry, or someone to give you a hand. That's some of the general advice I can think of off hand, I hope it helps.
Sounds great
Chevy power rules
Love the car sounds awesome, my only question is why would someone smoke period🤮🤢 but even worse in a classic Corvette?
should have showed the vid from same angle though to make it fair
Same setup on my 76... But a with a 489BBC. Great sound.
What a _beautiful_ angry vette!!! - In my humble opinion: These are the absolutely most beautiful lines of any automobile chassis that has ever seen the light of day!!! .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💓 Sensual - raw - just WANTING to be owned - driven and admired . . . . . . .
Very true comment 🇺🇸👍

Sts and open header sound the same
I have an 80 with headers and sidepipes, NOT really sure what are in the pipes but everyone sez it sounds really good
The audio on the 1st wasn't even as good NOT a good demonstration
Now it sounds good with the state baffles. Type in 77 Vette warming up on you tube and listen to my money pit. My car sounds better in person, not to great on video
Your car sounds like shit
What mods on the engines ?
sounds great
Personally I like the baffles rather than glass packs on the side pipe deal. The cops won't like it at all and your neighbors will cuss you every time it's fired up. I've had them both. Baffles when tuned properly will give power&fuel milage but it's loud.
Which glasspacks where they? hookers? reverse flow or the normal ones?
I had to come back and enjoy your family venture one more time.Congrats on a great video and more towards yourself and granddads doing this together...all the best Jim :o)
its interesting that a 32,000 mile car needs restoration.
what size are your tires ?
F****NG AWESOME ! I got an 70' vette with an aLS5 461cui and i will buy me some sidepipes with STS!
Thank you for posts. My Daddy left me a 69' vette, 427 that I plan to restore. It is all original, numbers matching and has not had any restoration work done. Cannot wait to get started! He restored classic cars, will be hard to do this without his advise, but looking forward to doing this in his honor.
amazing
Good job, make your father proud. I'm doing a '64 now.
Wonderful!
Eric where is you and your grandpa's video of the video. I loved that one
Love the sound! I play this clip alongside a clip with some good music, and enjoy it twice as much. :)
Glasspacks are cheap junk STS all the way!
Great job man,,,, excellent candidate too, 427/435 rare beast, 4 speed I hope??
Open headers for the win, of course! A great reason to allow yourself that opton. As for the other options, you'll need to decide what you can legally live with...either way...sidepipes are a great OPTION!!!
Thank you so much for posting this. That is such a beautiful car. My dad has one, and my mother always used to drive me around in it growing up. It has the best sounding engine ever and I'm going to miss it if we have to get rid of it. He just passed away. I asked my mother if I could go up and take it for a drive sometime before just in case.
