This was the tune that Col Arnold Gabriel picked for us to perform n 1977 at the fla bandmasters association concert n VAN WEZEL HALL N SARRASOTA FLA. WHILE REHEARSING US AT FAMU. HE STOPPED THE BAND AND SAID THAT WE THE FLA A&M UNIVERSTY PERCUSSION SECTION OTHER THAN THE AIRFORCE BAND WAS THE FINEST PERCUSSION SECTION TO PERORM THIS PEICE. HE TOLD THE REST OF THE BAND TO STAND AND APPLAUD US. AWESOME!

Our Jr. High Band played this back in the mid-70's. Likely not this arrangement, but our band director liked to challenge us. After months of practicing it, he took us to a local theatre that was playing the movie. Made a lifetime memory. We scored a 1 on our UIL concert... I think we really rocked the piece. It was certainly a challenging and fun piece for percussion. Thank you Mr. Brent!

Some of the best times of my life were at FAMU performing in the Symphonic Band, under the direction of the great Dr. William P. Foster. This was a very special group of musicians. We made history at the American Bandmasters Association being the first all Black Ensemble ever invited to perform there.

You all sound absolutely amazing. My family hears me playing these tracks all the time. They always use to think I was listening to movie soundtracks. This is also why The 100 was also a well oiled machine in 1976 - 1977.

Thank you for sharing this. It is absolutely wonderful to hear. Why did they pick this piece out of curiosity? It's fantastic to know they played this almost 35 years ago when the movie came out 2 years prior. It's a fantastic score and one of Goldsmith's best. Absolutely inspiring.

Who was the arranger for this? I played it at North Texas State in 1978; the only arrangement currently is a grade 3 by Bocook, and this was no grade 3!

+Kevin Lindsay ... Probably the arrangement by Michael Davis in 1976. The Heart of Texas Concert Band (HoTBand) will be playing this at a concert on 29 September 2015 ... 'Music from the Movies". Look for it on the HoTBand's youtube channel after a couple of months.
