Thank you so much for watching the video! I'm not expecting this to get too many views, so shares are REALLY appreciated! Twitter, Reddit, your dog, it all helps the video out!

When Taki wrote "I love you" instead of writing his name, I was both left broken and left painfully in love with that scene. If Taki wrote his name, it'll be just forgotten and wiped out just like what happened to Mitsuha's written diary and other memories of him to her. Writing "I love you" left Mitsuha remember the feeling of being love and letting her to continue living the life she deserve. The heart will never forget.

To me the film that completely changed my life was 5 cm per second. This may sound really weird, but it actually made me want to have a genuine romantic relationship. A longing that I had never really felt at the time. It also got me back into Anime and specifically into romance anime. I will forever be thankful to Makoto Shinkai for that.
Kimi no na wa then really just added more on top of that. Both of them are two of my absolute favorite films of all time.

This movie ACTUALLY changed my life. I was always a very.... emotionless, mundane person. Kinda gloomy and always sad. Also I hated "romance" since childhood I don't really know why. And terrible portrayal of love and romance in media made this hate stronger. (I'm talking about you, Twilight). So I actually started identify as aromantic (for the people who don't know being aromantic means you don't feel romantic attraction you feel it less than what an average person would feel). But in August of last year I decided to watch this movie even though I tend to avoid romantic stuff. And holly shit this movie hit me like a truck. Like emotions I've never felt before. It was soo _otherworldly_ . I was in a trance for the entire day. I was literally enchanted. It made me fell all my bottled up feelings which I've never felt before. And it also made me realize that I wasn't aromantic after all. which is important because the next week one of my best friend asked me out. Normally I would've just rejected her but I didn't thanks to this movie. And it was one of the best things in my life that I did. Because of this movie I have a girlfriend. A person who I can share everything about me with and someone who will always be there for me. just like you said. That's why I hold this movie dear to my heart and I'll keep holding it till I die

This might sound very corny but having been in quarantine forever now, I watched this movie a few months ago and it shocked me into feeling something again. I think the main thing is how healthy its portrayal of love is. It's so rare to see something in the west where the love between characters is just built on supporting each other, as opposed to toxic slow burn back and forths, shared superficial interests, or unrealistic meet-cutes. Taki and Mitshua support each other's lives and stand up for the other when they won't stand up for themselves. I love the scene where Taki confronts Mitshua's dad, for instance. It reminded me what a healthy relationship looks like. The plot might be fantasy, but the foundation of their relationship is real.

Wow, it’s incredible how similar my relationship with anime is to yours. In my childhood, only things like Naruto and Dragon Ball would be in my radar, and I always thought it was a stupid medium with exaggerated plots, expressions and I just couldn’t watch it. Only last year, after a lot of resistance, did I actually watch anything anime in its entirety, and that was Death Note. Despite the wacky intros, it was such a serene, serious and smart show and i really loved it, so it served as my gateway into anime. After that, I tried something wackier, My Hero Academia, and was blown away by the heart it had. Now, every time I watch any new anime, I discover a new side of the medium, new animation styles, techniques, new genres, themes.... As you said, beaming with creativity. Your Name really isn’t a traditional movie, it’s very much about the ride and the message overall is pretty simple, what made it special for me is the fact that it’s anime - the facial expressions, the cinematography, the sound, voice acting, the feels - I truly believe it could never have worked for me as a live action or traditional western animation movie. That’s how much these great pieces of content have changed me: from despising and making fun of them to cherishing them in a way i could never cherish any other medium. Love it ❤️

I’m also new to anime, having only been introduced to Studio Ghibli in 2020 and starting my first show, Attack on Titan, earlier this year, to supplement my reading of the manga (also my first). I, like you, can’t believe it took me this long to give anime a try, and I can’t get enough of it. This movie in particular is a masterpiece that I know I will be thinking about every day for the rest of my life. Thanks for a great video; I’m off to watch everything you mentioned (including IRC)!

      I second this
Garden of words is from the same director and only 45 minutes long. I love it much more than Your Name.
oh and Wolf Children is an absolute masterpiece of feels too, and not about a romantic relationship at its core. It's about motherhood, and so beautifully done. The music... kills me every time.

You just talking about it made me remember all of what happened in the film, and it left me teary-eyed at work. See, the thing I loved on Kimi No Nawa was everything you just mentioned coalescing together to MAKE A COMPELLING STORY AND LET YOU FEEL WHAT THE CHARACTERS WERE FEELING. All the joys, frustrations, sadness and relief that both Taki and Mitsuha felt was also something I felt watching the film. There's not much movies right now that could do that.
Thank you so much for talking about this movie! Same as you, this movie changed me. It helped me get through a difficult time in my life and helped me believe in love once more.

For me, there's two anime that influenced me more than anything else, more than any other medium has: K-ON! and Koe no Katachi. K-ON! is my favourite anime because of its relatability to my own life back when I was in Highschool. The mundane fun with friends in a club, performing, going on trips together, I could relate to it all, But it was the ending that related to me most. I was the youngest of my friends so of course they all had to graduate at one point, and I felt that same amount of sadness during our final school performance and that same feeling of "I wish they could stay behind longer." Yet even more relatable to me was Koe no Katachi. It is my favourite film, period. It feels more personal to me than anything I've ever experienced before, to the point where it felt like a documentation of my own life in a way. I have experienced the same events as making mistakes at one point in my life and suddenly being treated as a bully by people who never had an issue with the matter before; having friends all suddenly turn their backs on me and distance themselves from me; coming to hating myself and not being able to forgive myself because of this event; planning to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge but then ultimately not doing so. Though I still struggle with a lot of these mental issues to this day, the film felt like the only thing in existence that truly understands how I feel, even more do than my friends. It's beautiful in its execution and objectively a masterpiece of a film, but what mattered the most to me was what it meant to me. Naoko Yamada captured not just the events of these two stories well, but especially the emotions it brought along in such an authentic way. These emotions correlated so strongly with how I once felt that I was able to enter back into the times when I felt these same feelings once again. These two anime feel less so like just another piece of media I had consumed, and more so like a piece of me put to screen by someone I had never even met.

    THANKYOU, for this video
Just like you I started off with Death Note, and am so grateful for anime, because also like you, Your Name (Kimi no na wa) was my first and favourite anime movie, it changed me so much that I started playing instruments like keyboard/piano purely just to play beautiful songs/soundtracks like Sparkle, it's just phenomenal, and I also what to get a drawing tablet to start drawing anime and creating my own stories and overall my contribution towards anime, and I am now just a thankful and even more openly cultured person, because just like you and probably a lot of fellow weebs out their, I thought anime was dumb and never really appreciated it, but boi I regret that, now to my conclusion, "anime has changed everything, the way I smile, the way I cry, and the way I live, and I am truly grateful, THANKYOU Japan, THANKYOU fellow weebs".

Since there are a crap ton of weird, disturbing and gross Anime out there I, too, thought of the art form as a whole as dumb and either overly childish-dumb or way to sexualised and fetish but for every ridiculous Anime series or film there are at least two well crafted, well thought-out beautiful pieces of art and to me, your name. is the perfect example for how great Anime can be. There is much crap but so is in Live-Action and Western Animation, I'm sad that many people miss out on this because of that mindset.
