Thanks so much, my 2nd Gt Grandfather Samuel Hunt owned a lot of property in Portishead, he died in 1916.
He owned Cabstand and had a cab business and was a Fly Proprietor.
He was worth about 1m {in todays money} when he passed.

I was born and raised in Portishead, it's amazing how much it's changed in my lifetime. It's almost a completely different place to the village I grew up in. Lovely video.

That was a lovely film, sensitively shot. Really like how the music tempo changes throughout. I actually saw my flat too around the marina! Thank you for creating this video.

a really well-crafted video; a real walk down memory lane for me. Lived in Beechwood Drive for 3 years; attended Gordano School; swam in the long swim from Battery Point to Sugarloaf Beach once. Used to ride my bike along the footpath to Clevedon, and back via Walton.

Im glad you enjoyed. Your swim is impressive. I couldn't believe my eyes when I recently saw some folk swimming that route because I always thought the waters to mirky and dangerous to swim. I dont think I'll try and will just stick to the med 😄

    • @peterashford7855

@@MichaelAyden the waters then were pretty murky, probably worse than today, but each swimmer had a support boat just in case you ingested something you shouldn't!! then...we all got very excited cos the pool was built and I was there on opening day with Gordano school. Used to love bombing off the top board!! Portishead has really expanded since I lived there., and I expect the commuter traffic to/from Bristol is pretty bad?

    • @MichaelAyden
      @MichaelAyden  3 года назад

@@peterashford7855 Yes commuting to Bristol is still a pain especially by bus.. You can no longer use the diving platform at the pool now as they've taken away the ladder. Health and safety gone too far or that it's faulty in some way

Unrecognisable as the place that I spent the early years of my life in. The first three and a half minutes were totally alien to me and views across the town look like any town anywhere. Lack of a commentary is also to the detriment of this film.

You have captured many of my favourite places especially the old sea wall at the end and the view taken from Eastwood. Only this morning my daughter and I woke at 4 to watch the sun come up from the old sea wall path. As I have said to someone recently, Portishead is part of me and I love it more than anywhere else in the world. I would never part from it. Thank you.

I think that they should put some render on the pre saint in the high street. Its not changed at all since it was built. Have you seen pictures of the pre saint in the seventies? I saw two women sitting on a raised brick bordered flower bed. Those are the only things that have changed. There’s an ugly sign up now too for some reason. A lot of council houses deserve to be rendered aswell as they are very ugly and kind of stink aswell. It’d take a while, but some of them have 2020 and 2021 BMWs and one has a 2018 Audi and a ranger rover I believe to be from 2016 or 2021 I don’t know because I’ve forgotten.

Haha yeah, maybe they didn't like my video. I had a few aggressive and negative comments towards me about it, which I found very peculiar. I just suggested that they try make their own video if they didn't like it and try do better. Cant please everyone I guess and just have to take the rough with the smooth. What really pleased me was that the video seemed to resonate with people and warm their hearts about the town they live in. It even inspired one or two to get out and explore the area they've lived in for years because they had no idea about some of the places shown within. Maybe one day I'll do another when I'm more skilled and have better equipment.

Thank you for your kind comment. It's much appreciated. You're not alone in terms of getting to know the place. I have a friend who has lived here 6 years and has never ventured out much until I started dragging him out for bike rides. There is so much to see and explore around here that it will really help enrichen your perception of where you live. Even the Gordano Valley which has much to see with beautiful spots and hidden surprises. I can't recommend enough that getting a bicycle if you don't have one is beneficial in many ways.

Thank you for this wonderful and moving video to this beautiful place that is one that I love to visit even more since I had a few days break here back in 2018.
There is something about this part of the world, especially Portishead and its surrounding area with its fantastic coastline leading to Clevedon of which is beautiful in its own right that share those magnificent views of the Bristol Channel with its marine activity and Wales across the water.
You’ve even captured the bench in which I love to sit at when I walk down to the lighthouse past Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club. There is even an old cottage around there that is right on the rocks that is a lovely place to sit and watch the sunset.
Thank you again for this as it’s cheered me up on my Birthday in this lockdown situation we are in and giving me a reminder of one of the first places I am going to escape to when all this has passed.
    Stay safe.
    David.

      Hi Michael!
Hope your well. The Mercian Wanderer here on my other RUclips account.
Your fantastic video of Portishead, the little town ( that I also ) love, must be up there as one of my most watched videos on RUclips and one that I keep coming back to every now and again when I feel I need my fix of your wonderful little town of Portishead just like I did on this Friday night on the 19th of April 2024.
      I just love it!
Thank you again for such a brilliant piece of video art showcasing your "little town that "you" love that I hope to visit again soon for the day with my soon to be 8 year old Daughter.
      Have a great weekend!
      David J Hough
P.s I must have shared this video on my Facebook page countless times as well such as just now again to spread the joy and wonderment that Portishead is.
      Take care!

My old grandfather was born in Portishead, and both his parents are buried in the church in the video...if he was to see it now I don’t think he’d love it...I’ve also seen how it’s changed over the last 20 or so years and in my opinion, it’s been ruined.
    However, nice video.

Indeed there must have been some big changes in the past few decades such as the plethora of supermarkets and house/apartments. The recently built unsightly apartment buildings on Harbour Rd that were meant to be retirement homes or one big care home for the elderly. Now for what ever reason are going to be council flats. The more they build the more they'll take away from the feeling of Portishead being a special little town. It's vibrant but you can still be in places for peaceful solitude but I believe the balance is at risk of being too busy. The old railway to and from Bristol will be reopened in the next few years which could have a massive impact on the town both positive and perhaps negatively. It will probably push house prices up even more and bring in even more people. Making the town lose its magic and quaint peaceful atmosphere. I came here because I dont like cities or urban sprawl and like to be close to nature. I hope they dont ruin things by inviting too many people to the party 😔

    • @PillSharks
      @PillSharks 3 года назад +2

@@MichaelAyden that’s what happens when we have to many people living on a poxy little island I guess, and it’s only going to get worse!
The railway will be the final nail in the coffin, I have a few mates who are local lads in and around the area and can’t afford to live in the area their families and lived for generations...money talks!
Back in the 80s or 90s you didn’t see fancy expensive cars like you do now, that shows how much money is in the area... not good for the poor sods who live on a normal wage and what to live with their family and friends
I hate the area, it’s been totally ruined unfortunately because of greed, and yet the greedy bastards who turned into into what it’s become still carry on living in their big fancy houses in the countryside surrounded by green fields, anyway, that’s enough moaning, I see you have a tiger 800?
      great bikes, mines the XC
