In case anyone didn't know, Geoff Barrow the brains behind Portishead was first a studio tech for Massive Attack, when he was still a teenager. He recorded a demo of "Sour Times" using leftover studio time that Massive Attack had paid for. The fuzzy distortion of "Roads" isn't digital, he recorded the tracks on vinyl then rode over them with his skateboard.
Thats a useless fact im totally gonna take and use in the future on a random 5am comedown when i put on some massive attack or portishead when everyone can barely string a sentence together. Thanks man.
Merrynothing; you stated it perfectly. Sometimes the BEST things in life are kept secret and guarded lest they become devalued by the ignorant masses. It’s been said to Cast Not your Pearls Before Swine. The people I work with always break my balls about listening to my “Weird” music. I tell them coming from you that’s the highest firm of compliment.
This makes me very emotional. Both of these songs always kinda went together in my head, at least in a playlist. These are both of my mom's favorite tracks, and this is the ultimate song to remind me of her. It's like... her theme almost. Love you mom, thank you for making 90% of my musical taste and culture, I'll pass it on for you
Love of music in all its various forms. It has been a major legacy to me from both parents. Lucky one of them is still with me but truly know the pain of being without your Mom x
This song feels like a taste of life and death. Ice and fire. Love and hate. A taste of dreams and nightmares. Fear and Joy. Like witnessing the birth of a baby And seeing someone bleed to death later that day. I can't put my finger on it but it's there. It's a crisp taste I can't describe.
It's been 3 years since I heard this mash up for the first time. It was the first time we met, this mash up played in the bar we went to, and that night I knew she was the One. 203 days later we broke up, but I never stopped loving her, and not a day goes by without me regretting that I didn't tell her how much I love her..
Did you ask her how she felt that night you both were sitting there listening to this? Not that night, obviously. Dont wanna seem like a fucking maniac of course. But later?
I remember driving a car full of friends, playing tapes with Massive Attack and Portishead albums loud. The road was straight, it was getting dark, and waiting for Teardrop and Roads, which took the entire time of listening to the other songs on the album, was replaced by the euphoria of listening to them. And so audio cassette player continued to play autoreversals. Every time I hear those songs, I'm in that car again.
I never knew I wanted to hear these two songs at the same time until I did. Always loved them both. I’m back at 15 years old, in love in that painful way that happened back then.
For 8 minutes and nine seconds every atom within my body aligned perfectly creating a peaceful bliss and removing me from any thought of negativity. I want this over and over again. My teardrops fall in happiness. I am one, but for a moment.
Never thought I would get to hear Beth Gibbons and the exquisite Elizabeth Fraser "perform in the one song" as it were. Brilliant effort and thank you.
I found TEARDROP on someones personal mix CD in a work truck about 5 years ago and I've been rocking it since I found out it was an old Massive Attack song. This mix blows me away to new levels, it's just too good.
Holy shit I got chills. Two of my favorite songs from two of my favorite artists. I can’t believe how well these fit together. Perfection, I can die happy now.
I've got goosebumps on my outsides, and an ocean of feelings inside from this. I can't believe that I never heard this until today... but now I can hear it every day, forever

When it's 4:30AM Sunday morning, feeling shitted off with everyone, drunk and blazed asf loving your own world; content, happy, at one, in love, alive. Love IS a verb. It's a curse. It's a blessing. Feelin the love, to whoever mixed this. Just been to Bristol, England exploring where Massive Attack began. Just discovered Potishead again the last month. Praise you for this remix, from this moment, shit's electric. Always will be. Stay alive. Stay electric. TL;DR: my soul, my heart, my head, my existence cannot handle this remix. Magic is real and sounds like this.

If i heard this for the first time and i didn't know who massive attack and portis head were i would believe this was one band producing a brilliant song, well done sir you have won the mashup of the year, cheers from 🇦🇺

This ties up with The XX - You Got The Love (Florence And The Machine cover) for the best mash-up ever . Where have I been all this time? Absolute masterpiece, such a simple but perfect mix. Congrats to the producer, you're a genius.
This kind of thing that makes life worth living. As many others, two of my favorite songs from my two favorite bands. Funny how I was wandering what a Massive Attack and Portishead remix would sound like just before discovering this while enjoyng NYC Live Roads version.
This is genius, it flows and melds so seamlessly. The best of both worlds. Beth and Liz’s voices accent each other’s perfectly. Thanks for creating this.
I know what you mean and agree... an original version is always an original version, no matter how well it is reworked, and these 2 are among the best of the best... but still it really feels right, this mashup... can help but love it, without comparing it to the 2 originals... :)
