I was always taught that the plane needs to be on the verge of a stall before flaring out the last speed to touch down gently. Most of the crashes on landing are because of excess speed or mainly because the pilot tried to force the aircraft down while it was too fast.
@@billblack8575 A lot of crashes with modern RC aircraft are because of retract failures. People go with them though, because as far as warbirds go, they look crap in the air with permanently deployed gear. If you want fixed gear, best to go with aircraft that aren't supposed to retract, or go super large scale, so the retractable gear is strong enough to work properly.

The majority of these can be summed up as "Moron pilot" or "airplane malfunction and spectacular save." That first one especially with the Hawk was beautiful.
It never ceases to amaze me how guys can be so good and building these beautiful scale planes and be so incredibly bad at landing! It is a bit of an artform but there are simple technics as well. Like ground affect. The cushion of air created by wing tip vortices...half the distance from the ground as the wingspan...on average and depending on wing type. (Delta wing for example). Or... not using right rudder on a single engine during take off and using back elevator on tail draggers to GENTLY allow the tail to come up and not nose over. Whether a plane is 2 pounds or 200 tons the same flight dynamics apply! It's all still simple aerodynamics. Some of these guys could really benefit from some real flight training!

Kinda curious, how does the B2 model fly? The real life plane is basically impossible to fly without computers but it seems unlikely that the model has these, so is it just easier to fly due to being smaller?

Even very good pilots sometimes have a MOMENT where they either misjudge the situation or their model no longer works correctly. Regarding the undercarriages, I would like to mention that they have a predetermined breaking point so that major damage can be avoided. Some pilots have then probably built this breaking point too unstable.

Would like to see you make some of your great videos of scale non-military RC models, i.e., Antique, Golden Age, Pre-WWII and post WWII general aviation (no-crashes) ( I'm a scale model builder/flyer and somewhat burnt out on warbirds.)
I adore the ex MiG15 owner..he tried to look reallistic and make it perform as such in the air. Unfortunately for him he did not realise the true weakness of the original 15 and didnt strenghten the tail controlls .

These pilots should add lead pellets to their planes for balance of the front and rear of the planes. Find the center than on the edge of a 2 x 4 find where the weights are needed. Have them secured to the fuselage with a heating gun and your control will increase dramatically.

The turbine crashes hurt the most for me, because they are so much more expensive and bc my dream jet is a 1/5th scale f16 so I know it would be hard to be a good sport haha. That said, piston models arent cheap either, and it hurts almost as much to see them go in.

Some really nice saves by pilots with plane problems. I do wonder though why some people dont go round when its all looking a bot out of shape or why some jet pilots elect to still land on a hard runway when they could land on the grass adjacent and probably save a lot of damage to their aircraft

Why don't some of these pilots go around for another approach. They are often completely out of runway, and yet still elect to continue the landing.
It also makes me afraid to try retracts because there seems to be a lot of problems with gear not deploying

Design tip: Build the under carriage first like a tank then put a lightweight airplane shape on top with a propeller. Respect to you all.
