    It never fails to amaze me how many pilots try to put their craft on the ground while it still has plenty of flying speed.

    • @wrestling1013
      @wrestling1013 4 года назад +6

      It looks like it’s going 75% throttle which is way too much speed

    • @Nightmareonscamstreet
      @Nightmareonscamstreet 4 года назад +10

      I was always taught that the plane needs to be on the verge of a stall before flaring out the last speed to touch down gently. Most of the crashes on landing are because of excess speed or mainly because the pilot tried to force the aircraft down while it was too fast.

    Why don't some of these pilots go around for another approach. They are often completely out of runway, and yet still elect to continue the landing.

    • @billblack8575

      It also makes me afraid to try retracts because there seems to be a lot of problems with gear not deploying

    • @roadsweeper1
      @roadsweeper1 5 лет назад +6

      @@billblack8575 A lot of crashes with modern RC aircraft are because of retract failures. People go with them though, because as far as warbirds go, they look crap in the air with permanently deployed gear. If you want fixed gear, best to go with aircraft that aren't supposed to retract, or go super large scale, so the retractable gear is strong enough to work properly.

    • @sheldonholy5047

    It never ceases to amaze me how guys can be so good and building these beautiful scale planes and be so incredibly bad at landing! It is a bit of an artform but there are simple technics as well. Like ground affect. The cushion of air created by wing tip vortices...half the distance from the ground as the wingspan...on average and depending on wing type. (Delta wing for example). Or... not using right rudder on a single engine during take off and using back elevator on tail draggers to GENTLY allow the tail to come up and not nose over.
    Whether a plane is 2 pounds or 200 tons the same flight dynamics apply! It's all still simple aerodynamics. Some of these guys could really benefit from some real flight training!

      RCScaleAirplanes I hope my mild sarcasm is taken with the humour it was meant with. @@GayorgVonTrapp Don't worry. Although my native language is not English, I have well understood your mild sarcasm.
      Unfortunately, most people don't understand what this video is all about. Even very good pilots sometimes have a MOMENT where they either misjudge the situation or their model no longer works correctly.
      Regarding the undercarriages, I would like to mention that they have a predetermined breaking point so that major damage can be avoided. Some pilots have then probably built this breaking point too unstable.

    These pilots should add lead pellets to their planes for balance of the front and rear of the planes. Find the center than on the edge of a 2 x 4 find where the weights are needed. Have them secured to the fuselage with a heating gun and your control will increase dramatically.

    4:46 I wonder what she is trying to show to spectators... "hey look, I can do 3D holding the transmitter the regular way AND also in this very uncomfortable way as well..." What's the next step? Do 3D while hopping in one leg? That will show a great skillset, for sure...

      Maybe NASCAR should limit cars to 55 MPH what are they trying to prove by going dangerously fast?
      The NFL should remove pads and just play no tackle flag football, what are they trying to prove?
      Knife throwers should never wear blindfolds. What are they trying to prove?
      3d pilots should only fly in a scale manner. What are they trying to prove?
      BMX should only be done on a flat straight line track. What are they trying to prove by making the track so difficult?

      @@shelbyseelbach9568 does 3d heli pilots get extra points for flying with the transmitter on their back? Even more extra points if they hop in one leg during landing? How about if they solve a rubik's cube with their nose mid flight?
      I understand those things may entertain you and the crowd, but the flight itself is not technically better or shows more skill because of that. Perform a harder manouver, faster, lower... that's a better piloting.

      It's a performance and the degree of difficulty is increased by holding the transmitter behind her back. No wonder you don't understand something so basic. What a dumb ass! A complete lack of basic understanding. Now I see that this has just been a complete waste of time. All the best luck. Luck is, after all, the best friend of the simple minded.

    The turbine crashes hurt the most for me, because they are so much more expensive and bc my dream jet is a 1/5th scale f16 so I know it would be hard to be a good sport haha. That said, piston models arent cheap either, and it hurts almost as much to see them go in.

    Some really nice saves by pilots with plane problems. I do wonder though why some people dont go round when its all looking a bot out of shape or why some jet pilots elect to still land on a hard runway when they could land on the grass adjacent and probably save a lot of damage to their aircraft
