    He is a great comedian and actor, no doubt. But he hasn't been a practising professional engineer, even though he has important qualifications in that subject from many years ago. EVs may not be perfect today, I agree. But necessity is the mother of invention. And EVs are improving rapidly. We also need to be honest about how we use cars. EVs may not be great for very long journeys, but the greater majority of journeys are quite short and well within range. And EVs can be recharged at home every day. Perfection is often the enemy of the good. And my opinion is that EVs are good for a multitude of reasons. And they are getting better every day.

    Interesting video. I do find it a little bit of a distraction piece telling us all that EVs are not comparable to Hydrogen-powered vehicles, for example, when most people's focus is on EVs as compared to ICEs. That's where I am. I find that, regarding EVs, we as a demographic, are running down the electric vehicle path more as a "get away from fossil fuels" reaction than a "here are all the benefits of EVs". I want to know all the answers to my questions, and I have many, that make the EV choice the smart choice and not a "feel-good" choice. So far I have not seen anyone come up with an argument that makes me say "I get it now. I NEED an EV." All I'm sensing now is more Government control over my life.
    The first question I have is: "where does the electricity to charge come from?" I understand Power Generation and the only option I see is Nuclear but, every time someone says Nuclear, there's a wide-eyed reaction and a "Chernobyl???" remark. Wind power won't work everywhere (no wind today). Solar panels won't work everywhere (not sunny today). Remember you can't store electricity. Another one: Let's say that EVs are forced down the population's throats by Government, through a mandate of "EVs only by 2035" let's say. That surely means NEW vehicles can only be EVs. What will happen? People will simply hang on to their old ICEs and trade-up to newer ICE models. Surely the manufacturers and the Governments around the World need to let the free market control the progression to EVs. I don't see a trend to that adoption.
    I think we need more vids, such as yours, to allow all of us to examine the pros and cons of every option so we can make an educated decision on the way forward. Thanks for your thoughts.

      According to the Tesla master plan 3 if we cover only 5 % of the earth's surface with solar we can cover (pun intended) all our energy needs

    • @mostlyinterested1016
      @mostlyinterested1016 Год назад +2

      @@LatutaEV Only 5% of the Earth's surface? Do you understand what that actually means? That doesn't mean 5% of the land, it means 5% of the surface: Land + Water. Since most of the water is too deep to utilize, that will mean, based on 5% of the surface area, every piece of land and shallow water area. You always have to watch these "studies" because they're incredibly good at bifurcating words. This is what I say vs. this is what I mean.

    • @mostlyinterested1016
      @mostlyinterested1016 Год назад

      @@LatutaEV That would be a good solution if everyone is on the same page. Unfortunately, certain countries will continue to burn coal, if they have it, or wood, since some countries will refuse to mine their coal, and we will end-up potentially with the sky being covered with ash clouds and, even if the United States is the "good Country" and only has solar panels, we won't have any sunshine.
      I do trust Elon Musk. I think he's a good man in this regard. I simply don't trust Federal Governments who think "great idea" without knowing anything.
      Why can't we have an "all of the above" concept? Do people really believe that there's going to be a "Nirvana moment" in 2035 where every fossil fuel will be switched off? A day where everything will be wind farms/solar panels/wave machines?
      The fact that we have nutcases proclaiming the end of the Earth "soon" is just insanity. We live in a Country where we have such good EPA standards compared to India and China that our biggest concern is: "what the heck is coming from those two countries?"
      I'm in favor of electric power. What I'm not in favor of is precipitous lemming-like behavior where we're running off a cliff just to make a very small group of virtue-signalers happy.
      Show me the science. Convince me that it will work. Show me the Economics. Then let's talk.

    Rowan used a set of ice parameters to judge the future value of an EV. History of used cars both ice and early EVs, indicates EVs with 300-400km range will be sought after for those seeking a safe and economical vehicle. Why did Rowan not consider the future of EVs from the perspective (needs and budgets) of the average family ie low running costs if charging at home, vehicle to load, lower CoG and structural battery makes it more crash worthy, lower incident rate of fire, nil gas or noise pollution into the street, ability to park and leave unattended with climate control active, smoother quieter ride.. none of these features are effected by a battery with 70% charge. Why didn’t Rowan see these features as being valuable to a household looking for a 10 year old vehicle?

    • @LatutaEV
      @LatutaEV  Месяц назад +1

      You nailed it, your comment is spot on. I think Rowan is biased, if you have Aston Martin and McLaren in your garage you are not particularly thinking about family looking for a 10 year old vehicle, right.

    Think about it. If an electric car can last twice as long (gas tools constantly need repairing and replacing, but my electric tools have lasted me for decades with basically no maintenance) then we only need to make half the cars in the first place!

    • @LatutaEV
      @LatutaEV  Год назад +1

      The only part that degrades in time is a battery but so far the degradation shown is very small if the battery was looked after. But those can be upgraded and as technology improves it will get better as well.

    • @brucegillingham2793
      @brucegillingham2793 Год назад +1

      That is a good school of though however the current market place we all live in has almost every major manufacturer lobbying and legally representing that you dont actually own your vehicle,tractor,PC, etc.... There is also planned obsolences as it exists currently built into all gas vehicles now. My point being that even if the electric vehicle could out last a ICE vehicle do you really think manufacturers are going to sell you a vehicle that would outlast ICE at the expense of sales? The only reason the sell electric cars is because of the tax credits, grants and other handouts from government Tesla would not exist if not for those reasons. Leases will still exist and manufactures will still plan and work toward a product that gets replaced every three to five years as they do now.

    A specific version of *Atkinson Cycle* is extremely efficient (not Toyota's famous Atkinson Cycle).

Likelihood that batteries will last more than 10 years is irrelevant and we will not know if this is correct for 10 years.( none of my tool batteries have ever lasted 10 years and they are the same cells as 99% of ev batteries) people are VERY wary of buying 2nd hand ev's because of legitimate concerns about cost of replacement batteries.
