- operaphila.org/facebook - On Tuesday, November 1, 2011, a trio of singers, Rebecca Siler from the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Alize Rozsnyai from The Curtis Institute of Music and Patricia Vigil from Temple University did more than just research at The Free Library of Philadelphia, startling guests with their rendition of the Queen of the Night aria, Der Hölle Rache, from Mozart's The Magic Flute.
The performance is one of 1,000 Random Acts of Culture taking place nationally from 2012- next three years*, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Knight Foundation's Random Acts of Culture bring artists out of the performance halls and into the streets and our everyday lives. For more videos and information, visit RandomActsofCulture.org. Black guy reading the newspapers expression is priceless lol
Amazingly talented people. So sad most people didn`t even care. I do! love from Argentina!
Not only did most of them smile, they all gave them applause when they were done. Some may have been annoyed, but i would hardly call it a waste. And the girl with the green headphones was obviously in on it....
These random acts of culture are just great.
One of my favorites
I think the view meter is broken -- I came back to this and it still had the same number of views listed as before I viewed it for the first time. What an amazing performance!
The reaction shots themselves are worth the watch.
Brilliant!
Love random acts of culture
The most beautiful aria ever written. Fantastic idea to sing in three voices. Thank you.
I love what Opera Company of Philly has done with their 'random acts of culture' in venues around Philadelphia. However, I think good opera singling was wasted on the patrons in the library. Most looked alarmed the girl with the green headphones was getting pounded on; others looked annoyed that they couldn't study/research. And the library -- acoustically wasn't a good place.
Expressions on some faces are incredible....no appreciation whatsoever of what's happening with these beautiful voices....
WOW! Who would have suspected such a beautiful and HUGE voice from such a little girl? Awesome! Thanks for brightening my day!
I must say, as a sometime singer and opera aficionado, that these flash mob opera videos brought tears to my eyes. Wish I were there to participate. Please keep them coming.
Brava, bravissima!
:D huge smile on my face.
I have to say, I've watched loads of these videos and the OCP ones are my absolute favourites.
This is way too cool!
Totally, I just cried with this video!
The black guy reading the newspaper just kills me..so funny!
"I am so not getting involved"
Awesome! I wish I was there. Such a great treat and very enjoyable, despite people did not really appreciate. Thank you to "Random Act of Culture"
que lindíssimo isso!
I don't know what the big deal is, why everyone in this video looks surprised. This happens everytime I go to the library, these people just need to go to the library more often that's all.
Well done ROFL
Qué voces!!!!
Unique! Keep it up.
excellent the idea!
Awesome!
Meraviglioso.
Just incredible! My speakers can’t even play this without starting to cut out at points because the voices are so powerful. Because my mind can’t fully comprehend that that level and quality of sound can come out of someone’s body without being amplified or enhanced in any way, I have to remind myself that these singers are not lip syncing.
Kudos to the makers, kudos to the performers. Kudos to the sponsors. I hope you give more fabulous artists like this a chance to shine. This is most certainly a gem!
love this
Super idée ces "Random acts of culture" !
Świetne zestawienie utworu do sytuacji. Brawa dla solistek.
Kinda reminds me of that show on MTV called "silent library" 🤷 ha!! Great job
loved
PARABENS PELOS ARTISTA E ISENTIVADORES DESTE PROJETO, É SIMPLESMENTE EMOCIONANTE...
Bravissimo~!
fantastic
bravooooooooooooooooooo ¡¡¡¡¡
Faith in Humanity....... Restored
Mozart would have been pleased!
3:25 :) love it! :)
splendide bravo merci
Woooooo ❤️
Those people did not seem to appreciate that one too much 😂
the people ignoring them and not enjoying this wonderful aria should have been thrown out of the library for being ingrates
great :-))))
Convinced that is Timothy Spall at 3:01
This is as FUNNY AS HELL!
People seem irritated as we've been conditioned that libraries are quitet places. So people get agitated when they're disturbed.
Most of the people there would be confused as to why there are three women singing in the library. I'd be confused about why three women are singing a song to each other which is actually supposed to be sung by a mother to her daughter, telling her to go and kill Sarrastro. I'd probably say something like 'But kicking people out of the library isn't in 'Die Zauberflote...'
Where's the orchestra? :-)
Brilliant but how funny that some of the people were pretending they were not there and kept reading.
What kind of hat was that at 1:23?
There was a tape recorder.
Maybe they thought the one in the grey dress should practice the Aria of the Queen of the Night more. She was flat.
@KatherineXIX ya think?
That'll learn ya, dern ya, to use your phone in the library.
would be clear to me most visitors would not be accostomed in listening to such a difficult operatic work and would mean besides singers would need to still perfect coloraturas would say !
2:40 Dude in Philly wearing a New Orleans Saints hat?
stop disturbing all the bums' peace!
I wish they didn't parade that sign around. It's like they're saying, "Heads up peasants. This is what culture is." Everything is culture, snobs.
well if "everything is culture" then "parading that sign around" is culture too...snob.
PhourQ Reading comprehension fail. I'm not saying that manifestation of culture (the sign) is lesser, as you imply by calling me a snob. I'm pointing to how it's degrading other cultures by effect.
So you felt your culture was degraded by the sign. K. Excuse me while I pause for a moment of silence over your tragic loss.
sounds like you have a classic case of "reverse snobbery" ,MrDrewboggess. They are simply advertising a random act of culture- one sort of culture. They are a professional opera company. This is their culture. If you'd like to make your own "Random Act of Culture",go ahead, but please try to make it as professional as this lot, whatever sort of cultural experience it turns out to be.I'm not a music snob or think any type is better than another.I'll enjoy anything,if it's good,as these people are.(well ,except maybe Schoenburg).
Brilliant!
