- On Saturday, May 26, 2012, members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Chorus and Orchestra visited IKEA Philadelphia and showed DIY shoppers that in the IKEA Marketplace, you can find what you need to make a dresser, a bedframe -- or beautiful music by Mozart!
Opera Company of Philadelphia Composer in Residence Lembit Beecher arranged the famous Papageno-Papagena duet from The Magic Flute for piccolo and found percussion.
The performance is one of 1,000 Random Acts of Culture taking place nationally during a three-year period funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Knight Foundation's Random Acts of Culture bring artists out of the performance halls and into the streets and our everyday lives. For more videos and information, visit RandomActsofCulture.org. This is the BEST Random Act of Culture that I've seen from the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Love the Magic Flute, the surprise and delight on the "audience," and the use of the IKEA merchandise as part of the performance! Love it! Love it! Love it! I really wish San Francisco Opera would do something even remotely like this in the Bay Area on a regular basis. We need some happiness over here. Thank you for sharing.
I love how the older lady was just loving her life being apart of this. So awesome, wish I lived near enough to see these...but I live in Canada lol
The Opera Company of Philadelphia & Mozart always make me HAPPY........
This is just the best because of the creative instrumentation, and the fact it is intimate, not a mob. Bravo! indeed :-)
I also love how the singers interact with the people in that setting, even though no one knows what is going on.
Flash Mobs = Happy smiling people !
This was so enjoyable. Sometimes I wish I lived in Philadelphia.
these are just great, introducing people to the opera and putting a simle on their faces.
just gotta love it wish we had it in my city of 78,000
TThis deserved a much bigger audience.
This reminds me of my preschool years when I would drive my mother crazy thinking I'd break her dishes and dent her pots and pans whil I did this sort of thing! What an effect doing Mozart in this way!! This is one of my favorite flashmobs...
le facce sono incredibili, incredule e al contempo stupefatte....
One of my favorite sopranos ever - beautiful in looks, voice and soul!
Yeah, and she looks like she’s having so much fun too.
Delightful. Amazing performance, great production quality. Percussionists performed wonders with the odds and ends they used. Loved the smiles from everyone! Bravo Random Acts!
Sheer genius!!! Mozart's timelessness is proven once again -- even with such a small "orchestra!" The arranger is totally brilliant! :)
Congratulations to OCP for such a great random act of culture! Bravo to Lembit Beecher for such creative use of found percussion, too!
This kind of videos make me sooo happy :D
WOW!!! With glasses and bowls... Only OCP.
Jeff Chapman!!! Great singing and great to see you!
I love the singing and that found percussion is seriously awesome
Gave this a like........ didn't know why until I realised I'd been smiling like a loon all the way through.
Awww.....of course it has to be Mozart to capture the little ones hearts at 3:53, even hundreds of years later; it is still magical (The Magic Flute / Die Zauberflöte).
All children love Mozart from conception. It's human DNA to love Mozart.
this is absolutely, totally the very best I've seen. I just love the way they used what was there to make the music (with the exception of the flute). Totally impressed!!! keep up the good work!!!
So beautiful,
it brings tears to my eyes.
Loved it! Wish I were furniture shopping that day. Glad that I could experience it on RUclips and see a dear friend participating.
Now to donate to help spread a love of the arts!
Wonderful! I think this song was the first opera piece I saw performed at a special program for the elementary schools in my CT hometown. This, and the one from the Magic Flute that was performed in the library by you guys. I'm glad so many little ones were present for this random act. I wonder if they went home and created auxiliary percussion instruments?! Little dude shouting "bravo" already knows what's up. I hope we'll see him in years to come singing tenor, or playing bass. :D
Please come to Anderson sc... We need your act here in the south.
Fantastic! 2 of my favorite singers!!
one of the coolest flashmobs! love the percussion part :)
Fantastic! This is one of my favorite arias of all time, and this version is fabulous. I love the looks of surprise and delight on the shopper's faces. I'm driving down to Philadelphia in April to see this company's performance of 'Die Zauberflote', and I can't wait! See you all opening night :)
Wonderful. I love this and the instruments are wonderful
Brilliant - just wish I was there to see and hear it
One million bravos
🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶❤🎵🎵🎶❤❤
the most interesting rendition i personally have seen of a most enjoyable classic. well done.
This is probably the most awesome thing I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!
Oh my god! that was beautiful!!!! I just love it. Congratilations, the idea is so original and the best way to close people to the opera, the best for you guys! :D
Still wonderful.
Also love the little one at the end yelling "Wabo!!! Wabo!!!" :o)
Wonderful!!
That was great, I loved the impromptu instuments
Brilliant (timbrally as well as conceptually)!
best yet
Oh yes, beautiful performance.
Striking to see that the more "visibly" minority people, like the Asian-looking kids or the Indian-looking people are reacting a lot more spontaneously and immediately. Possibly in their home culture music or performance in the street or "retail" context is not as unusual or shocking as for the "locals".... Bravo Philadelphia Opera!
LOVE these! LAO needs to do more like this :)
Nada mejor que la buena música
I love the expressions on the faces of the kids!
Sublime.
Great :-)))) love it :-)
Simply: Wonderful.
Sad to say that we have not such music acts. :((
AAAAHHHH!!LOVELY!!CUTE!!THANKS.FROM(U.K.)
Fabulosoooo
NOTHING BUT DELIGHTFUL!!!!!
Bravissimi!
I love the "orchestra" very crestive.
Awww I am from Austria and ur German word is beautiful!!!!
This is Nick Hay. Sounds really good guys. Good roles for both voices.
That was so cute.
Respekt you Guys can singing very good in german
Come to seattle, but tell me when you get here :)
omg I want to move to Philly JUST so I can participate, lol
Bravi.
omg that bravo kid so cute
Most people have no idea that an opera can sound beautiful because on a record or television or smart phone it is canned and has no life. The beauty is not apparent. In real life the music is so much better. I sing in parking lots sometimes.
I went to IKEA today, saw this, and started singing "Pa-pa-pa-pa." Can you imagine if that was in the store then? www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30311637/
Nope, never been to Philadelphia, but if it's Seattle you're talking about...most ppl drive and don't take the metro. I'm a pro at driving in Seattle.
did you see the baby's eyes at 3:14 ? priceless!
am I correct in thinking that the random act of culture group is responsible for all of these classical music flash mobs? If so kudos to them
Wabo is now my favorite word.
Papageno Papagena duett von der Die Zauberflöte.
개 쩐 다 = It's Korean. = Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You've obviously never tried to drive a car there, LOL.
Hopefully, these are the first steps the world is taking in an attempt to reinvent itself.
I understand it for the most part. Then again i took two years of german...heh
Sehr gut, aber man sollte am "Ü" arbeiten ;)
These are great, but for one thing: it's kind of a let down to see it done for all of six people.
Why not just find a local opera theater or go to a Met HD broadcast? They are trying to introduce people to opera and get people to go to opera why not show that what they are doing is not in vain?
企画と演奏の素晴らしさは置いといて、
みんなもう少し痩せたらどうだ?
ロッキーの故郷だろ。
Best part? Reaction of the kids
Do Americans actually understand this is opera?
Seattle isn't the same thing, believe me. Those Philadelphians are nice people but they drive like maniacs.
komisch wenn es keine deutschen oder italiäner singen
Refraine "Es ist das höchte der Gefühle"
Refrain in engllish ,the highest of emotions" boring ...right?
