My mother died 2 years ago and this aria captures my own grief and my sorrow for those who have died from this virus. But this aria, and the ethereal voice of Maria Callas gives me strength to keep going, keep loving, and not loss heart. Miss you mom, you are with me every day.
A mother is a mother, whatvever the age with got, she's still our mother and i know she's here with me, i pray for her, i think of her a lot, mom help me, protect me, i love you.
Sorry for your loss. But people die from the flu every year, this virus has been vastly exaggerated as part of agenda 2030 and the great reset "build back better"
@@joseph1845 Thx but she's died in 2019, before the covid, she was sick and tired and she was smoking since she was 16 years old, thx for your great word mr Butcher :)
I have a physical and emotional reaction to Callas' voice. Her voice bursts with emotion and power that is so fat beyond anyone else I've ever heard. ❤
GOD I JUST WATCHED THE "PHILADELPHIA" ON ROKU AND THIS RECORD WAS PLAYED BY TOM HANKS AS DENZEL WASHINGTON WATCHED HIS REACTION...ONE OF THE SADEST MOMENTS IN THIS VERY SAD FILM...MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME I SEE IT...
Maria Callas!! Her singing this aria in "Philadelphia" was the best part of that movie (even with Tom Hanks mumbling along with the area and crying so hard to show that he was "a real opera lover"! Guess Hollywood doesn't trust an American audience to appreciate a great operatic moment just by itself.
My all time favourite female aria. I first heard this in Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks and cried my heart out there in the cinema. My dad played opera to me early in my life and I've loved it ever since. Pure emotion, pure sensitivity and you either love it or hate it. And I'm PROUD to admit Opera is my favourite musical style above all others.
This aria sung by Maria Callas is one of the most intense experiences in existence - but your superb video enhances it still further; I would not have deemed it possible! Thank you also for the subtitles elucidating Luigi Illica's marvellous libretto which inspired Giordano to attain the apex of his genius! (The other arias in "Andrea Chénier": "Un dì all'azzurro spazio", "Come un bel dì di maggio" and "Nemico della patria" are also absolutely splendid!)
.... what an impressive expression of pure art. we need suffering in order to experience joy and love. we must embrace both in order to feel their intensity. thanks!
In the top 5 best songs of all time of any type, such powerful emotion from a world class performer, such sadness in her voice proberbly mirroring her life
This song evokes such powerful imagery of the chaos during the French Revolution. If I close my eyes I can vividly see the flames burning down her home, I can see her watching in the shadows covered in mud & dirt from hiding in the vineyards or wooded area. I can hear the gun fire, screams, I can feel her surrounded in literal darkness, stars above in tattered clothes with a tear ,stained cheek. I can smell the gunpowder, iron, body odor & blood. Almost as if it were the actual sounds of the French Revolution. Such a colossally moving song that leaves you achingly frightened. Kudos. Btw the entire opera Andrea Chenier is on RUclips. The costumes, makeup, vocals & acting are incredibly intense! I urge fans of La Momma Morta & opera to check it out! There arr couple but the legit one has a thumbnail of the actresses in heavy white makeup with exaggerated wigs can't miss it!(sorry can't get the link atm)
Dear Eileen. Thank you very for translating this beautiful son and making this impressive video that illustrates it perfectly. It open my mind and my heart much more, as I was not able to understand this divine message. thanks a lot

Thank you for sharing this wonderful aria. It was featured in the movie "Philadelphia" in a scene where tears were difficult to hold back. The album of the full opera just became available through Arkiv Music, the Maria Callas version on two discs for $9.99, and needless to say, I ordered it this evening. Listening to your share has made my evening.
I does bring tears to my eyes... ow more than ever that I'm a Jesus Christ believer!! So beautiful!! Don't need to know the lyrics to understand the pain, the fall and the raise! God bless!
I saw Ms. Amara as Mimi (La Boheme) in Philadelphia's Academy of Music. It was in the mid 70's. I was most familiar with her Pagliaci recording with Corelli. Well, what a surprise the was. I always liked her voice, but, I was shocked at her tremendius expressiveness through tremendous access to shading, color and great ability to arch her legato phrases. So much of those attributes were not in as evident through recordings. Even naturally larger voices such as Tebaldi and Tucker were not fully served in recordings. Amara and a number of others in that period were spectacular exponents of fine vocal arts.
Thanks for your comment! I will also respond here to your second one. Thanks so much for recommending another aria. I will give it serious consideration. :-)) P.S. I'll leave more info on your channel.
This song is a forever classic i luv the singer and everything she ever did and when it was in Philadelphia i will Amit i cryed when i heard it in the movie Philadelphia when it came out and still play the movie and song now its a beautiful masterpiece the most i luv playing anyone else agrees or am i the only one
Dear Eileen, I am very happy that your first opera video has the voice of the greatest artist of last century, Maria Callas! And as always my compliments for a very personal work, and a difficult task: you've chosen an aria that -specially for people who are not 'into' opera- is emotionally tied with 'Philadelphia'. But with your images you've created a work completely of your own. Now you should dare more in the field of opera, no doubt! Opera lovers wait!
I like very much your video, Eileen. I'm away from studied in opera but i know appreciate the art when i see it and hears it. M. This "song"? From Philadelphia"? Antoine Pirson, this is not a "song" but a Umberto Giordano's masterpiece, from Andrea Chénier... Sorry...

Probably the greatest Masterpiece in music history. The text (libretto) is really beyond imagination.
Breathe taking. She is magnificent and the meaning of perfection
What a voice! It truly touches the soul. So tragic to learn how unhappy she was throughout most of her life.
