  • The Kawai MP11 was a fantastic keyboard with a high build quality, top notch sounds, and an excellent action. When I heard Kawai was working on upgrading this keyboard with the MP11SE, I had to check it out! It has recieved some minor but crucial upgrades and tweaks, and I'm happy to say it's even better than the original!

I'm glad I stumbled across this channel, and I'm grateful that you make these reviews and tests.
Your episodes of piano and keyboard resighting are highly educational, and fulfill me with a satisfaction.
I belive I made a comment on an earlier video on the same subject; that your knowledge on music, instruments, and brands are extensive and broad.
Thank you for making these immaculate videos!

Totally awesome man! Love the sound (s) ... wonderfully fluid, toned & moonlight-watery clear ... dancing with fullness and eeriness .... man you nailed the beautiful Debussy ... can't say more dude. OMG this one blew me away - to own one of those and play all day long until I am totally stoked out and on a high with all the experimental playing on it. Bring on the in depth reviews dude!

Hey James, we met earlier this year at NAMM 2020 - it feels like a lifetime ago! Since we're all going to be at home for possibly another year due to the pandemic, I'm looking at a new digital piano, with the best "close to acoustic piano" action I can possibly get. I'm looking at Kawai, Yamaha, Nord, and the Casio with the Bechstein action. Thank you so much for this detailed review! - Andrew Colyer, New York

Wouw that’s a lot to talk about. I think I like the lower keys of the 11 more than the 11 se. but the higher keys of the 11 se are brighter than the 11. So half 11 half se I think? Anyway, nice review! Thank you!

FSW - foot switch? Maybe just a standard sustain pedal with the regular 1/4 inch jack, seeing as the triple pedal on the SE is a new DIN plug...? Thanks for the comparison video :)

best piano reviews videos on internet. very good job. not boring at all, sincere and very persuasive. i thinking to buy either mp11 or vpc 1 or casio gp 500. and tend to mp11 more and more. especially after this video. i use yamaha arius ydp 162 for 6 years and can say that piano action is a little plastic, though overall quality and sounds are very good. i tried very expensive yamahas and they still feel plastic, despite keys being made of wood. i do not know why is that. may be after using kawai i ll be able to compare.

I don't miss having organs on the MP11SE since I have my Korg Kronos sitting right above it. I really wanted the Kawai for the piano. James you are very good at explaining things and you are quite talented on the piano. Can I ask, how many years have you been playing? Keep up the great work.

  • @fogethereal

not sure if this makes a difference or not, but I wonder if the angle of stand for the SE has an impact on how the action feels. Since it uses actual hammers, I could imagine the feel of the action being changed by tilting the keyboard in the way you have it set up; that could make gravity act slightly differently on the hammers.

We have two Quikloc M91 stands at Milan Recording Studios. We find them to be of very good quality, but the upper keyboard should be the lighter one. The M91 is the lower section, and they sell the adapter that holds the second keyboard on top.

I bought the MP11SE last week after hearing you play the MP11 on some videos in the past. I went to the local store and tried every keybed I could (Yamaha P-515, CP88, Genos 5, Roland R2000, FA08, Nord Piano 4, Stage 3, Casio Privia PX-S3000, Kawai VPC-1, MP7) and the MP11SE was THE best keybed for me. It's still a personal choice though. The VPC-1 came close, but had a heavier action. I like the Concert grand samples a lot and do prefer the more mellow sound of the samples. Using Heavy+ touch and HammerDelay on +5 makes it even darker, which I like. Thanks a lot for all the info you gave about these models, it was crucial in my search for a Kawai dealer first as opposed to just sticking with the Yamaha models that are better available locally.
I agree with everything you have to say about the MP11SE. One thing people should think about is that size and weight. It weighs 35 Kgs, so use a sturdy stand! I use a Kawai DC88-XL dustcover, which is made for the MP11, MP11SE and VPC1 and fits it perfectly.

Glad I could be of help.

What's your opinion of the kawai vs the Roland V piano. Noone talks about it and I can't find comparisons.

    • @ThePianoforever
      @ThePianoforever  4 года назад

That instrument still appears on Roland's website but it appears for all intents and purposes to be discontinued. There are no comparisons online for a few different reasons, but the most important one is that there *is* no comparison between the MP11SE and the Roland V-Piano. The Kawai is just the better instrument, all around. It sounds far more authentic and can be bought new for the price of a used V-Piano, so it provides better value too.

    • @cgmuso6619

@@ThePianoforever I owned one years ago and I loved the feel of the V Piano. At the time someone at one of the shops in Denmark Street told me there was no comparison and the Kawai was the best (whichever one it was) talking around 2011/12 I think.
I didn't like the Kawai. I thought the V piano was by far the best feel and sounding electric piano (for next best thing to real piano)
Having taken a break from music.
I've recently tried rd2000. The yamaha equivilant (can't rememeber model)
      The big fantom and montage
      The nord grand
Even now from memory the v piano still blows them away for feel, and I think sound. Although it doesn't help when music instrument shops have music blaring in the background 😏
Is the Kawai much better then these others too??
