  • The Kawai MP11 was one of my favorite keyboards on the market, and the MP11SE has improved upon the original model in many ways! I really enjoy playing this keyboard, and I hope you enjoy the video!
    You can purchase an MP11SE for yourself at:

    Fantastic playing! You just shortened my RUclips browsing, I was looking for a review of the Kawai MP11SE, and I was going to look up a Doors - Rider's on the Storm tutorial later, but now I don't have to look any further. Thanks! Also, thanks for the inspiration! After 10+ years of piano lessons as a kid back in the '70s and '80s, and then a 30+ year hiatus, now I'm excited to get back into it. This keyboard might be the winner for me.

    6:55 I can resonate with that "weird thing with cardboard" as I have multiple ones made from packaging cardboard with clips to hold the sheet music firmly so I can change them like cartridges on the fly. Sits well on any music stand and it's cheaper and lighter than full metal one. It doesn't do well with heavy books though, so heavy duty, long ass music stand out of box would be awesome. I'm looking forward to getting my MP11se, thanks for review!

    I rebuilt an abused MP8ii and at some point will buy into the MP11se. The keyboard action is excellent on the MP8ii, better (to me) than anything else I've plinked in my local music shop that has a great range of electronic keyboards. Mine is the same weight, around 72 lbs.
    Little bit shocked no Hammond B3.

    Thanks for your great work!!! I am retired and have often thought about learning to play piano over the years and I have decided to attempt it. I have been looking at several reviews of digital piano's here on YT and this video as well as the video where you compared the Roland RD2000 vs. Kawai MP11SE to being very helpful. I pretty much had narrowed my search down to these two piano's and after viewing the comparison between the two and hearing the piece (I think it was Gnossienne No 1 by Erik Satie) that you played where you alternated between the two piano's during the playing of the music has made up my mind. After hearing them side by side I like the more mellow sound of the Kawai MP11SE and plan on ordering one from B&H or Sweetwater later today. Thanks once again for your videos.

    I want to thank you for this very informative review and demonstration. You are an awesome pianist. This video helped me order my MP11SE and I can't wait until it arrives. I have one question. I've noticed several people complain that their Korg Kronos take so long to boot up, which to me is not that big of a deal, but I was curious to learn if this beautiful instrument is the same way. In other words, can one just turn this on and play or do you have the wait time? Thank you again for this video, it was a treat watching and hearing you play.

    • @rrickymaa
      @rrickymaa 3 года назад +1

      i think its because of the sensors. is the D louder only in that voice or in general no matter what mode you put it on? if so it must be the sensors, i had the same problem one key was louder than others and i searched and i saw people cleaning and air brushing out the sensors for that pariculuar key

    Maybe you can help me with a question about my new MP11se.
    The pressure point simulation is noticable very clearly on almost all keys. But some on some keys (exactly eight), the pressure point isn't noticable almost not all. That are some A-Keys and adjacents. Is this a serious problem? Or could it become one in the future perhaps?

    Great review...as always. Though I am still a 'beginner', this keyboard is on the top my window shopping list right now, mostly because of the action. It's not the run of the mill "weighted hammer action". I'm using Studio Logic SL Grand at the moment, with a pretty good fatar tp-40 wood key action. I think this Kawai is my next upgrade when I'm ready. Btw, love your original music that you use to test keyboards/pianos. I'd love to learn it, do you have it in midi, or sheet somewhere? Keep up the good work.

  • @thegood9

    Also, I am an MP11 owner, and the only thing I'm missing is rapid single note repetition/trills. I was wondering if either the MP11SE, the Nord Grand or Piano 4 can do these? I've not found a single controller to date that doesn't lag too much on the key return.

    Love the MP11SE, it's just fantastic. As far as I know, the only other stage piano that comes with a triple pedal as standard, is the Nord Grand. But that has Kawai's RH3-2 keybed, which is also used in the MP7SE. Good, but defnitely not as good as the one in the MP11SE. Apparently, Nord calls the action RH-N, but strangely, it seems it's noisier than the keybed in the MP7SE. Seeing the very high price of the Nord Grand, one wouldn't expect that. Perhaps a comparision between the Nord Grand and the Kawai MP7SE would be an idea for a future video. In the meantime, keep up the good work !

    • @ThePianoforever
      @ThePianoforever  4 года назад +13

      The RH3 is also the same action that comes in the Korg SV1-88 and Grandstage. Not a bad action, I agree, but for what you pay for the Nord Grand, it really should have come with the Grandfeel.

    • @mlgl9728
      @mlgl9728 2 года назад +1

      Nord Grand's action is not the RHIII. It's a modified version made by Kawai, lighter, noisier, plasticky and definitely cheaper. For what you pay...that action is unacceptable. Btw RH3 action is made by Korg not by a Kawai.

    Yes, I could use a full-length music desk and would also be willing to procure it as a separate upgrade. May I ask - did I see a little "lip" in the front bottom of the music desk? If so, is this enough to hamper the turning of pages? Sometimes even on grand pianos, the front bottom of the music desk is somewhat raised the the sheet music pages "catch" on it whilst being turned, causing stress in the performer and delayed turning of the page, dropped notes, etc.

    • @ThePianoforever

    I'm mostly doing recording work and playing at home. But in a somewhat distant future I can imagine myself to do some gigs.
    What do you think is the better choice? Wait for ES8 SE, go for the ES8, or the MP11SE?

    • @ThePianoforever

      For gigging, the ES8 might be a good option. It's still heavy but isn't as difficult to lug around as the MP11SE. Of course a case always makes transport easier. But the MP11SE has a vastly better playing experience, so if that's a serious interest, you might consider the MP11SE. Honestly both of them are great, they're just a tad bit better at slightly different things.

    Hi, is there a possibility to do a in depth review of the Kawai mp7se? I really like your video's and I like the mp11se a lot, but it's to heavy to carry around for me. I am intrested in the kawai mp7se because they used the same keyboard in the nord stage but the mp7se is cheaper so for me it seems interesting. And if it should be possoble you should make me verry happy if you compared the mp7se with te roland rd2000 (witch action is better, with have better sounds, more possibilities for organ and synth stuff...). Thanks a lot yet!

    • @ThePianoforever
      @ThePianoforever  4 года назад +2

      I'm working on it! There's some really, really cool stuff I want to get first, but an MP7SE is in the works. For starters, the MP7SE uses Kawai's RH3 action, which is decent. Unless Nord has updated the Stage 3, it does not use the RH3 action. The Nord you're thinking of that uses the Kawai RH3 action is the Grand.
      Between the two, it's hard to say honestly, The sounds of the Kawai are amazing, way better than the ones of Roland IMO, but the RD2000 does have a lot of customization of the organ and synth sounds, and they're decent sounding, so if that's very important to you, the RD2000 might be worth looking at. I really can't say which one I'd choose though, because I haven't played an MP7SE yet.

      @@ThePianoforever I hope you can soon play an mp7se and share your opinion about it! Thanks for responding so quickly (many youtubers don't). And I meant the nord grand instead of the nord stage, it was a distraction error. Thank you so much for doing what you (love to) do !!!

      The Kawai CA 78 will have superior action as far as I know, it utilises Kawai's Grand Feel 2 Action whereas the Kawai MP11SE utilises the Grand Feel 1.. But that is not to say, the GF1 is in anyway bad, not at all, it is one of the best actions on any board (Home piano or Stage Piano), only superseded by the current actions in the CA98/CA78 and CA99/CA79. In terms of sound, I believe they use the same engine, so in the MP11SE, your sound will sound as good as your speakers/headphones. Hopefully that helps

    Thoughts on the VPC1? I can't really afford the MP11SE, but the VPC1 is an attractive option for a home piano. What do you think?

    • @abdulalshibly3930
      @abdulalshibly3930 4 года назад +2

      For a home piano the VPC 1 is perfect but you have to consider investing in a good piano vst which will cost anything from 100€ and more and you need a computer to run it plus an audio interface to connect it to the computer so you won't have any lags while playing/recording
      If you have enough room for an upright piano just buy a digital piano.
      If you are considering Kawai then they do have some great serieses CN CA KDP and others. They are different in priceses and you have a lot to choose from hope this helps
      If you have everything to run the VPC1 smoothly then it's up to you
      Edit: this is my recommendation if you only to play piano at home if you want to gig or maybe take it out then I would have a different opinion

    hi I ran a piano shop from my apartment for 2 years, we sold kawaii 308ep midi and Kawaii 608 and wirlizers and Rhodes with funk tuning and were open 24 hours a day with a rotating cast of nude models whom would hang out of the pianos over night for all night jazz fusion and pop classical sessions by my uncle the late great JOHN GRIGO he was a virtuoso on so many levels we mostly tuned pianos , I was the person funding the odd business he was the teacher I was the apprentice , he just died. and the world will never know how amazing JOHN GIRGO was but I wanted to extend my friendship to you a fellow piano freak. There are not many of us. I was diven to want to start a small piano custom shop and eventually began stripping baby grands and planting the extra wood from them down to the barest danish modern looking mods I could. we also did hammond b3 chops, my favorite piano I have ever had was a PLAYEL from 1930. While you are piano hunting I would ask that you help me find a kawaii 308 ep. I used to own the herbie Hancock one and it was my gift to JOHN for his 56th birthday. When we had to move out of our shop the movers, got into a argument with my wife whom fell asleep on route to the location to drop it off, which led to them dumping the piano off the truck on its side and in proceeded to rain heavily. when I arrived the Kawaii 308 ep with piano forte midi system was destroyed. John just died this week and I want to get the Kawaii 308ep with midi again to remember our 2 years of joy we had in running a rock n roll piano shop. He changed my life. When we discovered each other in the same city my uncle was living homeless outside but his playing is by far some of the best I Have ever experienced. I will include a link to his late album that he was able to record under a psydo name ELGIN JONES, and I wanted to include a link to John and fcuking around in our shop and his reminiscing about a song he wrote and gave to me to play in my band AUDIO Happening. We called our SHOP ECHO WILD. we were located in ECHO PARK. HE would love your show but would say our shop could do it better as the GIRL OF THE month would be on the lid of the piano lol. hope to meet you some time in LA. Call me up if you want 415 685 3289. My wife and I would love to have you over for lunch some time. And please look out for a kawaii 308ep midi for us we need to have one again to let JOHN LIVE on in the action of our memory. I have to say that I did not expect the need to buy an amplifier and speakers to make this piano work as you demonstrated (e.g., not using headphones). I ordered one from the local dealership (who also said nothing) and it was only on page 11 of the manual (which I happened to download and read) I learned there were no internal speakers. As a 70-year-old trying to return to piano-playing, I thought I should let you know something significant you missed in your review. Thanks for the demonstrations and comparisons, otherwise.

    • @ThePianoforever
      @ThePianoforever  4 года назад +2

      Sorry about that! I'll make sure in future videos to mention when a keyboard requires an amp. With my MP11, I like to use the Roland KC350 (now replaced by the KC400) which aren't too pricey and have a very good sound. Smaller amps than this by Roland aren't very good, but this size is nice, and far better than any internal speakers.
