Sponsored by the cigarette brand Camel, the event became synonymous with rugged terrain, extreme conditions, and the ultimate test of endurance. Teams from around the world competed in a series of grueling stages, navigating some of the most challenging landscapes on the planet, from the dense jungles of the Amazon to the arid deserts of Africa.
Land Rover vehicles, especially the Defender and Discovery models, were the hallmark of the Camel Trophy, chosen for their robustness and off-road capabilities. The competition was not just a race against time but a test of teamwork, problem-solving, and survival skills. Participants had to tackle obstacles like deep mud, river crossings, and steep inclines, often relying on winches, ropes, and sheer determination to progress.
Over its two-decade history, the Camel Trophy evolved from a pure endurance challenge to include various elements like kayaking and mountain biking, reflecting a broader scope of adventure sports. Despite its end in 2000, the legacy of the Camel Trophy lives on, symbolizing the spirit of adventure and the relentless pursuit of overcoming nature's toughest challenges.

I wish I had found places like this in Maderia. When I was there 2 weeks ago, everywhere we went on the island was packed with people.
I was there 14-18 of May and haven't met a lot of people
