You have by far the best video on how I would want to camp and see Madera. Did you get camping passes? And do you have more detail on where you started each hike and how long it took? Thanks in advance.
I see the answer on the permits thank you but if you can give me more details on the start, locations of your hikes, and how long they took, I would be appreciative
Phillip, thanks for much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Regarding starting points, I'll reply below with a new comment for each campsite, as the replies may be quite detailed
Campsite 1 - Achadaz da Cruz - park at the Achadaz da Cruz cable car (check closing times) and ride the car to the base of the cliffs. Then follow the path as far sout west as as possible. You'll likely have to skirt around a few allotments to find the campsite. It should take around 30 mins with no stops once you exit the cable car.
Campsite 2 - Pico Ruivo - This is the only campsite that required a permit that was secured online without issue. Secure it ASAP. Park at the car park at the start of the PR1.2 hiking route and follow the path to the summit of Pico Ruivo. 45 mins to 1 hour. Get there early to get a good pitch.
Campsite 3 - Pico do Ariero - Parked at the car park at the radar station and followed the PR1 path to Miradouro Pedra Rija, which is the campsite. Roughly 30 mins from the car.
Thank you so much Curtis, those are very kind and encouraging words! I know someone who has hiked across Madeira, and I 100% recommend. I'm already excited for you. Finishing with a fee days in Funchal would be nice, as it would give you time to recover and load up on Poncha 🍸
The hotel is called Dazkarizeh73. Be careful when booking because the have two properties, one is across the road from the one you see in this video and does not have the same views or pools within the property.
Thank you mate! I honestly can't remember how the temperature was. I know it was chilly enough that I needed a fleece to be comfortable, but not so cold that I wanted to get off the mountain ASAP. I think it can snow up there, so November might be considerably colder? Youll be fine if youre prepared :). You're probably already aware, but in case you're not, have you secured your permit for camping on Pico Ruivo yet?
but if you cannot recall the temperature is a good sign ;) i found on internet it might be very different from night to night.. apparently in two days is -1 but on average is around 10, probably a bit colder than your experience. Yes thanks i am aware about the permit. :) @@CatchMeOutside247
Hey, nice video footage 👍 But I have to say it: WILD CAMPING in Madeira is ILLEGAL. There are designated camping spots for camping, to which you need a PERMIT (same for drones BTW). BTW, maybe it was just an honest mistake, but the camping spot in Pico Ruivo isn't on the summit, but a bit lower (where the green tent is in 10:09). I'm definitely not a fan of restricting what people can do in nature, but when there's dumb/misinformed or disrespectful people (or just lots of people), you need rules. Regarding camping, the main obvious issues are: camping in dangerous places, camping on (or too close to) the trail, and above all, leaving trash & poop/papers around. If people were respectful and didn't do these, it probably wouldn't be forbidden to wild camp. And if people keep doing it more, there'll be more control/surveillance and higher fines. Edit: Having said this, I think it's pretty clear why there's space to camp in 12:08 (it's forbidden & people follow the rules). And this camping spot ticks most boxes when it comes to where not to camp: it's in the middle of (the most popular) trail and it's in a dangerous place (for you & other hikers). I just hope you left the place as you found it (leaving no trash & no trace) - to me and most others this is by far the most important.
Thank you very much mate! Create and account on this website then you should be able to find the camping permits in there. There is a guidance video on the application process, but it's in Portuguese. simplifica.madeira.gov.pt/services/7-22-101

This information is not correct. Wild camping is not allowed anywhere in Madeira Island. In some places it is allowed to wild camp with a permit. You can find a list of those places here: ifcn.madeira.gov.pt/atividades-de-natureza/acampamentos/acampamentos.htm . When camping, the applicant must always be in possession of the document authorizing the activity, in order to show it to the supervisory entity (Forest Police) whenever necessary. . Apart from those places, no one can wild camp anywhere else in the island, it is not allowed. If you do so it is against the law. Fines apply. Misinformative social media posts and videos like this are irresponsible, and are promoting a savage and disrespectful tourism in the island. On this video the camping area used in Achadas da Cruz is private land, without the permission of the owner. In Pico Arieiro and Pico Grande it is not allowed to camp.
It would be nice to ask for a permit to camp wild. No wonder people later get fed up of turists who do that. I love camping outside but I do check local laws. Besides the permits, you have designated camping sites. You do not respect in this way the local culture, local wildlife. Imagine now 10000people going and doing it. Do you see it as a correct and responsible way of travelling? I do not think so unfortuantely.
Hi here is a tip, in Madeira you can't camp anywhere you want you have to check with IFCN (the local authority for forests and natural conservation) if you can camp where you where, pls don't incentive more people to come to Madeira and to go ileagaly camping we have enough of those already @@CatchMeOutside247

Where is the thrid campspot located?
It is on the PR1 path. If you put Miradouro Pedra Rija into google maps, you should find it😊
Hi did you get camping pass ?
Hey, yeah we got one for Pico Ruivo. The other campsites didn't require a permit.
Nice clouds bro 👌
