We returned from your stunning paradise island of Madeira last night and are totally in love❤️... We had the East tour with Nuno and made it up to Pico do Arieiro - best tip ever! We can only recommend your jeep tours, they are so much better than renting a car and stray around on your own🤣. You guys and Nuno especially are so utterly passionate about what you are doing, that's amazing and we will never forget that day! Thank you so so much again and keep going! We're coming back😍

My family is traveling to Madeira in a few weeks. We have been planning and looking forward to the peak to peak hike. Thanks so much for this information and suggestions on how we can still hike and be respectful tourists.

I can never get enough of your tips Jeff as they're always useful! I might even do the part of PR1 up to the Stairway to Heaven, but do you think I'd find parking at Pico do Arieiro if done in the afternoon so I can catch the sunset there?
I always leave Madeira browner (I never use sunscreen) rather than pink by the way lol! 🤣

Thanx Rue! You’ll find parking for sunset yes definitely, but it will be at the bottom at the “new parking lot” so it takes you about 30 min to walk up to the start point. You’re looking at a 2 hour hike in total to get to the stairway, and yeah sunset I think might be quieter and even easier to pull off actually.

I am coming to Madeira in November and I was planning to hike from Santana to Pico Ruivo, stay overnight there and hike to Pico Arreiro and all the way to Porto da Cruz on day 2. Will this be possible? It would be amazing if you would be able to give me more information on this
Unfortunately no it won’t, not as it is at the moment and I don’t see it opening any time soon sadly :(
You can get to the Pico Ruivo House from Santana, but then you’ll have to come back pretty much the same way, there’s only one route open from the house and that’s to either Ilha or Achada do Teixeira.
If you want help planning a new route, I’m happy to help, check our Patreon account, and for only 5.5€ you can have access to our message service and I’ll help brainstorm some ideas for you ;)

Sounds like its getting tough to hike the Island crossing or even impossible?
I wanted to walk west to east this end of oktober. Take all the peaks aswell. 😭
