Today at McFarland Racing we opened a new branch in the auto body sector. Now we know this work aint easy so Squirrel and Cleetus really had to channel their inner bondo working magic. Luckily, the El Camino was looking nearly perfect after 10 gallons of bondo!

If I'm not mistaken for a rear quarter panel repair like this the book says to flip the vehicle onto the driver's side and pour the bondo into the gapping hole a gallon at a time.

My grandfather was a body man since he was 16 and is now 73 and confined to a wheel chair for the past 5 years, unable to walk completely. I showed him this video, and he stood up and walked over to the tv to turn it off.

I from Chattanooga TN and actually lived down the road from Choo Choo Customs.
Fun Fact, 1983 was the year with the fewest Choo Choo El Caminos produced (approximately 22 units or less). Choo Choo Customs continued to sell their El Camino conversion parts for several years after El Camino production ended. Choo Choo went out of business in the mid 2000s. At that time, Honest Charley’s Speed Shop (also based out of Chattanooga , TN ) assumed a portion of Choo Choo’s employees and El Camino parts, which they still sell today. I love an El Camino

From one professional auto body man to another, great job guys. I would suggest going to Home Depot and using spray foam first to fill the gap then use 2-3 buckets of bondo. That's what my family shop has been doing for 30+ years
My home driveway body shop has used expandable foam, caulk and roll on bed liner for a whole lot of rust belt projects.

I've done alot of rust repair with expanding foam Sundays newspaper and bondo when I was younger.
Don't forget the chicken wire to give the bondo strength.
Balled up newspaper also works really good. Not that I have ever used it or anything...😂

I went to school to be a body technician. I even taught body work at a local high school career center. I can honestly say I learned something today. Folding tables can collapse, Tarps will burn with brake clean, and you can mix filler by the gallon. I’m excited to watch the paint video to learn what I’m doing wrong, because I always use primer and sometimes a sealer before paint. I can save hundreds of dollars I been wasting on those products. I vote Cleet and Squirrel start a Taco truck next. 🇺🇸🦅🏁🐊💸

Lighting the brake clean on fire was a new trick I've never seen done before, will have to keep it in mind.
Choo Choo Customs was actually hired by GM to make the SS El Camino. Along the same lines as when SLP partnered with GM to make the factory Pontiac Firehawk. GM had offered an El Camino SS but it looked like every other El Camino so they contacted Choo Choo Customs to fix that. Choo Choo Customs took the regular El Caminos and put rally wheels and sport mirrors on them as well as a polyurethane nose like the one found on the Monte Carlo SS. They slapped decals on the tailgate, doors, and nose and added an emblem to the dash. Choo Choo did a lot of luxury conversions on vans in the late 70s and 80s and they did the El Camino SS conversions from 1983 to 1987 when production of the El Camino stopped.
Sam is the best. He’s witty, he’s quick with the lines, he has the perfect amount of sarcasm in his jokes. I wanna be like Sam when I grow up but that’s a tall order.

Another hack way of doing it would be to use expanding spray foam. Shave it down as smooth as you can then body fill over it, sand, paint, and no one’s a wiser lol

Googled it cause of the video, didn't know they had an exclusive deal with GM back in the day similar to how guys like yenko did.

I've got a 94 dually with the Geneva customs kit on it.

There was 5000 made but collectors say it's actually closer to half that according to haggerty

My parents ordered a Choo Choo Customs SS Blazer back in 89’ from a GM Dealer. They were legit taking brand new vehicles off the assembly plant and getting them dialed back in the day. Good memories!
I have painted cars for 40 years and have never seen a full gallon of bondo mixed in a can before . That had me in tears.

Choo Choo Customs was started right down the road from me in my hometown of Chattanooga, TN. They started in 1975 and went bankrupt in 1991. They made a return but went out for good in 2001. They were bought by Honest Charlie's Speed Shop. Choo Choo Customs customized vans and El Caminos. That is in deed a legit SS model.
And trucks as well. My buddy had a choo choo customs 1500 sportside back in the day. Sharp truck for sure.
Stacy David's project Copper Head 68 C10 had alot of Choo Choo Customs parts.
They also did third Gen f body trans ams
Thank you for clarifying, as a kid that grew up in the 90's reading all of the monthly magazines. You definitely date yourself if you know who Choo Choo Customs is/was. Back then they were the GM go to for pimping the ride.

You made me feel better about my bondo job I did before I sold my truck to a dealership lol. I used aluminum cans to form the body lines and bondo'd on top of that. then painted it and put fender flares on top to hid the imperfections lol
Missed a good opportunity to perform a Pennsylvania body shop trick. Great stuff foam fills a large void real quick. Bondo sticks to it really well too

Your right, should have welded the rear fender back on the car, filled it with spray foam and then painted it.
The drill going crazy in Cleets hand absolutely killed me! This is hands down one of my new favorite videos. All the one liners everyone had just made it so much better!
Should use spray foam then condo. The expanding foam. Cut the foam down when dry and condo over it. Love you guys, Thanks for everything you do.

Honestly you definitely learn from your experience. Always leave the first batch to cure in the can, as to use the reinforced bondo can to fill in the big holes.

As a fellow professional body shop expert before you start painting you guys can put some 5 minute drywall mud in the little spots it’s way easier to sand out and holds automotive paint very well!

CHOO CHOO CUSTOMS is a shop around the GA and TN areas that customized alot of cars, vans and trucks in the 80's to early 2000's. They did a lot of body kits and custom interior work. Dealers would send cars there to have work done

Choo Choo Customs was big in the late 80s early 90s. Another one was Shotgun Customs. They did Ford. I had their 90 model Ranger lowrider. Cross I beam front suspension, SnugTop, true spoke wheels. It was sharp. Envy of the strip.
