You are awesome I have never seen a video where the hiker does 16 miles the first day!!!!! I hope you can continue at that pace. Hike your hike great video...💥💫💫🌟🌟🌗🌠🌠🏆🏆🏆
You are hiking very strong! Just be careful that you don't injure yourself with the miles that you are doing. Most people leave the lodge and just do the approach trail to Spinger and stay there then do Spinger to Hawk on day two. It was good that you didn't have any hiking problems going that far the first day, but you were probably sore the second day. Usually, I advise hikers not to do a 20 until at least the Smokies. Please take it easy the first week at least and get your legs, knees, ankles and feet used to the trail. The trail is 10% physical and 90% mental. There is a lot to overcome later down the trail, in your mind. It will seem like you are not getting in hiking condition and the climbs seem like you still run out of air and the lactic acid still builds in your legs. Well the climbs really don't get any easier, but you will find that you will be taking bigger steps and going faster. Once you're in hiking condition and you get your trail legs, you will find that almost any climb will only last 20 minutes. You are doing great but don't rush. Let the hike come to you. Good luck! Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek A.T. '90 &'02.......PCT '08
Wow! You did have nice weather for the start! You'll have plenty of worse weather later, but it sure is nice to have great weather for the first day. Seeing the Springer shelter reminded me of when we stayed near there. We were tenting, but we could see the shelter. Be careful not to overdo it in Georgia, because that's easy to do. Enjoy those bear boxes while you have them -- I think only Georgia provides those. That map at the end was super cool!
Yeah, really good start to your videos, Molly Rose, very well done indeed. I hope you're staying strong and safe, keeping patient and enjoying your adventure. Thanks so much for taking us along. All the best. Jack NYC
Great first day. I love your cheerfulness and keeping that through a 16.6 mile first day is incredible. As others have said the active map at the end really puts context to the miles.
Great start, Molly! I think you are my new favorite AT thru-hike vlogger. Your joy of finally being on the trail heading toward Katahdin comes through in the video and brings joy to my heart. Of course, as you have said, there will be many peaks, valleys, and meadows along the way. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
Hello Molly! Well Hello Molly! Excuse my being goofy a take from hello Dolly! It's very good to start seeing vids of your adventure! 🙂 Leave the miles behind you and only enjoy your views and people you meet! Northbound No Bust! You've got this! 🙂 1st day's Mile's awesome!😮🙂
Fantastic first day on the AT. I see you have the Hilltop packs bear bag. I also used one of their bear bags on my 2022 AT thru and had no problems with it. Happy trails 👍👍😎☮
Youve got a New Subscriber here to support and cheer you on. You should eventually catch Mama Bear and Little Bear who I am also following...super cool mom/daughter duo. Have a Safe and memorable journey❤❤
Loveing the trail map at the end to show your progress. And yea that time zone jump is going to take a bit of getting used to. Im so excited for you. And seeing that first white blaze must have been an intense moment. You been waiting for a long time and now its here. And your doing it. ❤
Molly, when there comes a time when you need to fill in space to talk about, if you don’t mind, & if it’s not too personal, could you talk about how you took your leave of absence from work?
After watching a different vlogger's AT hike, this video popped up. So, I just watched this one and " A Little About Me" and I'm so impressed with the editing and content! I'm in NC and I think it's neat that the furthest east you'd been was ND which is the also the furthest west that I've been. Looking forward to more videos and will be cheering you on to Katahdin. Blessings!
Molly, so glad to see you having such a great time. Absolutely gorgeous first day! Wow. And good on you for taking the blue blaze to Long Creek Falls. It is a gem. You have done a LOT of hiking so I don't have to tell you to stop and smell the roses. Take the blue blazes on occasion. There are a LOT of beautiful things to see when you blue blaze on the AT. No, you can't take them all or it would take you 8 months to finish. But there are some good ones that just add a lot to the experience. Long Creek is one of them. Looking forward to following your journey. Stay safe and God bless.
I use my Garmin watch to track my hike via gps. Then I use the Relive app to make the video. I have to charge my watch about every other day, but I think it’s worth it.
Yes, the Relive app on my phone syncs with the Garmin Connect app and automatically transfers the GPS information. I believe Relive will work with other GPS watches too like Apple, Sunto, Polar, etc.
I have a feeling you're going to acquire a lot of fans, Molly.
Have fun, take care, and happy trails.

The map thing at the end was way cool - you have some tech hints on how to do that!?
I use my Garmin watch to track my hike via gps. Then I use the Relive app to make the video. I have to charge my watch about every other day, but I think it’s worth it.
@@mollyroseoutdoors Relive is an app for the phone, then, that reads the Garmin track?
Yes, the Relive app on my phone syncs with the Garmin Connect app and automatically transfers the GPS information. I believe Relive will work with other GPS watches too like Apple, Sunto, Polar, etc.
@@mollyroseoutdoors Cool. I’ll have to check it out once the App Store comes back online. Do you use the paid version, or the free version?
I just use the free version right now.
Great first day.
Be careful
Hoping you continue to enjoy your hike
