The Teacher Pupil relationship is considered Sacred in India (especially in the Arts). You are right students revere their teachers❤️. There are many beautiful traditions/rituals that students and teachers carry out (sometimes together) to symbolise and appreciate this deep and eternal relationship. Sometimes they can be big elaborate rituals and at other times simple things like the student will touch their right earlobe any time they mention their teachers name to another person. It’s very humbling and moving to witness these❤️❤️❤️
After my comment here I thought. Hold on I don’t know why they do that. So did some research.
Basically in Indian culture you never refer to your elders/revered people by their name. However if a student is asked who is your Guru then they have no choice to state the name of their guru when sharing this information. Tugging at one or both earlobes is sign of repentance in India, so they always do this to symbolise their respect for their Guru and counteract the act of uttering their name.
Is so funny when western people said what Indian singer do... but I never see one time they sing like this..🥸😅🤨
