Boeing flew this in and out of my local airport (KBIL) 3 times back to back last September and I just happened to be plane watching. Biggest planes normally are 767s/a300s for freight. Seeing that behemoth navigate the taxiways there was so cool. And the engine is larger around than the fuselage of the 737s that it taxied by. I’ve seen 747s, a380s and C5 Galaxies but those were not at a smaller regional airport.

Project development times are so long now, the original 777 took only 6 years to go from concept to airline service. Taking 4 years to test an iteration of an existing design is wild
In an era when businessmen want to reduce government agencies to a minimum it is increasingly difficult to trust FAA., FDA , EPA etc. they’ve certified other Boeing models only to force their grounding later. FAA is just the tip of the iceberg because accidents are drastic but with regards to FDA and EPA they’re slowly taking the lives of many people to increase quarterly EPS.
From official program launch in 2013 it will be 12 years to certification, if achieved in 2025. Let us just remind, that this is a further developed derivative of an already existing and certified aircraft. Airbus has accomplished to develop a completely new airliner (A350 as a competitor to the 787 and 777) in 10 years from official launch in 2004 to certification in 2014. Boeing could do these things in the past, too. The last Boeing 777 derivative, the -300ER was put into service within just four years. Way to go Boeing.

You need to get up to date re the engine installation issue which has grounded the 777X test fleet. This issue which requires a major redesign is not going to be fixed quickly.
