It is simply a stunning advance that us mere mortals have this power available. It was not long ago at all this required super computers and overnight rendering to bring us a new perspective of the early Beatles’ live performances. The advancement of the algorithm is easily a million-fold since that time, now working in seconds on an affordable computer.
Superb video Dom! Those of us who upmix older mono source material to stereo know that SpectraLayers Pro is an essential application! It is truly the best spectral editor in the world!
This is really the biggest and most groundbreaking ISOLATION I ever worked with. Yesterday I took a 20 year old Demo...FROM A 20 YEAR OLD CASSETTE.... And "remixed it. With all the Noise cancelling and reverb cancelling features... The Song sounds like made yesterday now! Never ever in my professional life I was happier to pay 99 bugs for an update.
10:12 When i first found out it picks up reverb and effects (from one of your earlier videos) about this I was literally, genuinely speechless for a minute. The future is now! 😄 Oh, and _definitely_ looking forward to a full video!
I love the feeling when something is so exciting in audio, You have to share it with someone. Because it doesn't happen that often. You know with yet another La2a who can get excited. But this is a real step forward.
Awesome! The clarity and smoothness of the sound, and depth and speed of the processing.. wow. And yes to the full video-- when you have time, of course.
Even the version you get with Cubase is great for vocals, v10 picked those delays on vox really well, super impressive. Congrats on 100k subs too, very inspirational and deserved.
I just went and purchased this immediately. I have Izoptope Ozone 9 Advanced and it's good, I think this might be slightly better. Especially the "NULL-FACTOR" you mentioned many times. This is truly "GAME CHANGING". I also like the interface of this software better than that of Izotope OZONE, much simpler visually and easy to navigate the tools and functions. THANK YOU Dom!!! You're, always giving us "golden nuggets" of useful information and resources.
I use RX10 and Null-factor isn't going to do much tbh. It'll sound like fragmented white noise that'll you just have to mix back into at the end of the day.
3:35 Of course we're interested in all the unmix options, Dom. C'mon now. Give us another BOOM 💥 video!🙏🏾 PS: Congrats on 100K!!! That's 100k quality subscribers. No fake accounts, no scams, no click bait. That is phenomenal, man!
Duuuuuude, you really put a smile on my face!! I can see this being used for practicing other people's songs with real backing tracks and analising our favourite songs!! This is beyond incredible, no more fantasising with Izotope RX \m/
That a full null is possible is a hint at how SpectraLayers calculates stems, using the equivalent of a checksum with data. Even so, it is quite amazing.
i had no idea what that plugin was. great explanation (as always) - i suspect that is about to become my new best friend as my drum programming is truly awful! thanks dom, quality as always...
I took an old live-desk FOH mix bootleg I made during the 80's (the old cassette recorder under the FOH desk trick) and it managed to unmix the whole band and drums into separate tracks really well. Amazing.
The Spectralayers 10 trial is finally up! Thanks a ton, Dom! I wouldn't be able to unmix drums like that without your video, as I wasn't aware of Spectralayers at all.
Thank you so much for the support! ❤️ null testing is pretty simple: if two signals are on the same exact same and your flip the phase of one of them the result should be silence :)
As an amateur, songwriting, recording, and mixing was my main concern. Mastering very challenging. But these userfriendly possibilities makes you want to experiment with old recordings 😃 It's in the creative zone
Great video and great news from Steinberg. Steinberg is "the quality DAW" on the market. When I was younger I transcripted Solos (and chords) from Georg Benson, Mike Brecker, Brandford Marsalis and the like. Sometimes from really bad sounding club recordings. Man - that was a lot of work. With spectral layers now this is a piece of cake.
Very very helpful Dom. All your vids are. As a novice, it's so much easier to be shown. I know developers do their best - but manuals would appear so often to be written by Martians, thanks once again Dom.
This is awesome for when i do live recordings and get just a left right output from the mixer . This really changes everything. Plus i can't wait to get creative with this. Make some nice remixes of original songs
@@HomerNarr I was working on remastering a song just a few days ago that had a hi-hat with the most super annoying, and distracting frequency, ever. Literally song-ruining. Considering the recording was 20-something years old and the original mix files were out of the question, it would've been GREAT to isolate the annoying frequency using this program, just totally re-record the hits MYSELF... insert them, mix to taste, AND THEN perform the actual remaster proper. Would've had much more AMAZING results. This is incredibly controversial, as far as the M.E. field is concerned. More in the realm of Restoration for sure. Buuuut... there is an Art side to this Science, too.
This has been changing the game for all of us with huge analog mixing desks and not being forced to go fully in the box like Andrew Scheps is always still pushing for everyone due to workflow. Sitting blowing out stems for later "maybe" adjustments taking hours per song to do all the variations vs. now having all the unmix functions and tools out there, but this is getting incredible to allow us to thrive in the mainstream mixing world! Dom - always amazing, always uplifting too. - Dayz/David
also - PT religious users only, which I use it - but, they just never have a total clue as to the real software like Yamaha/Steinberg is always blowing out! Or their efforts with Sony Comp Lab w like Backbone...!
ps - @domsigalas thanks for not later in the video going for the easy... more cowbell 😂... the null test is insane to prove out the quality for the level of pro mainstream indie major level!
many thanx and yes please go the a specific presentation :) now trying on Mike Oldfield, 1976, Incantations part 4, 8:05 to 12:18, this part is full of harmonics... not so simple, no magic but it's a good beginning, maybe more flexibility to filter what we really want to get.
Bought spectralayers 10 ! It's awesome!!!!! I did a test, a mix song, in the "best quality" mode, of a 3.15 minute song on 3 different apple computers: iMac 27 late 2013 - 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core 32 gb ram , unmix time : 6.01 minutes MacBook Air M1 8 gb ram, time 3.53 minutes, MacBook Pro 16” 2019 2,3 Ghz Intel Core I9 , 16 Gb ram unmix time : 4.38 minutes
I want to make a point about the null test: It nulls because the "other" stem is just The original mix minus the stems. That's totally fine and well done but it does not stop the artefacts in the stems themselves, just null them out when everything is summed.
Sounds brilliant! - but I would love to know if it can do a similar job where parts have been recorded all together onto one stereo track at home rather than being professionally recorded in a studio. Thanks, Dom
A huge leap forward from the SL9 version, which did poorly in professional mastering. Thanks Dom for the excellent information about the new version 10. 👍I already bought it ... 😀
Hey Dom, Many thanks for such extraordinary video content, so i would like very much if you could do a tutorial explaining how we can remove noise on vocal audio, in order to make it very clean, and ready to mix or mastering.
My channel is all about remixing 1960s rock records using this technology, I use Izotope RX instead, but am intrigued how SL can isolate guitars and other. Usually these separation algorithms treat 'other' as the guitar part. But what none can do yet is separate multiple guitars or multiple vocal harmonies. You have to treat the entire guitar mix or vocal mix as one stem. Neither can it separate strings either.
Hello Dom, just update from 9 to 10. Well I would have interest on how to use all options about this new specter layer properly Thank you very much I appreciate a lot
I don't usually comment on videos, but when I do...... man - thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention! Can you still do this stuff using the Spectral Layers that comes with Cubase 12? Thanks for all your great tips.
Honestly, I had no idea what SL was and what it does and I was a bit scared to learn it because I thought it has a steep learning curve. However, after paying attention to its functions, I can say that it's an audio mastering magician. It gives me the freedom to manipulate the audio elements within the original audio freely. This is a real game changer. But I have to figure out its accurate workflow. For example, shall I use it after I master the original audio or before? Great vid Dom! Thanks :)
Pause at 0:33 let me guess: Spectalayers 10? EDIT: 0:44 Yupp, was right, LOL Why is the Zero cancelling so awesome. Fun thing with waves: identical but reversed waves cancel each other out. If the are absolutely symmetrical and reversed, overlaying them will result in zero. Perfect Noise cancelling! Now if you separate all stems in SL10, remix, reverse them and mix them back again and it still results in Zero, it proofs how incredibly accurate SL10 is working. It’s a lossless process. As non musician I am overwhelmed by the possibilities. Imagine how every old recording can be taken apart an worked on. It’s like dissecting a body, process organs and put it together again. You could take a mono Beatles recording and mix the hell out of it. This is insane, no wonder Dom is so exited. It’s mind blowing what this can do with audio.
@@DomSigalas you know it's crazy? Also good for live recordings.
Being able to isolate vocal microphones from stage noise is amazing for mixing live recordings
It's Nice to hear your Voice and Music! Thank you for all that you do
Damn Dom! You Sing! Badassery
Wow, total game changer for old productions with no masters. Exciting time for me to remix my old man's music.
That's crazy!!! WOW!!

I´ve compared Spectralayers 10 with iZotope RX - SL wins. Very good job Steinberg!! nice times....

I never thought I’d see the day! 😂
Great demonstration. I hope to one day use this application to this degree.

And this doesn't even touch on the audio photoshopping, noise reduction, forensics capabilities etc. Awesome stuff.
Like photoshopping but taking every element into a layer and separate them flawlessly. We might not even grasp what this will be able to do.

Wow, such a great feature!
Bought spectralayers 10 ! It's awesome!!!!! I did a test, a mix song, in the "best quality" mode, of a 3.15 minute song on 3 different apple computers:
iMac 27 late 2013 - 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core 32 gb ram , unmix time : 6.01 minutes
MacBook Air M1 8 gb ram, time 3.53 minutes,
MacBook Pro 16” 2019 2,3 Ghz Intel Core I9 , 16 Gb ram unmix time : 4.38 minutes
Amazing Dom ! I don't use spectralayer because I can't do something with this ! But now .... Thanks so much for your advertises
Awesome! In older versions the drum transients were chopped off ,after extraction.
Wow sounds like spectral layers have nailed it
I am impressed. Wow.

amazing good stuff🎉 congrats Cubase🎆 after a few hard weeks having 5 or more crashes each day on Macbook M1 2020 this gives hope🙏🏼

Keep ‘em coming. SL does magic, what else have you discovered?
