@@Travisaurus That crystal tear has the clearest possible description without spoilers. And it's not required to beat the boss, imho the nihil isn't even the most annoying part of the fight.
@@boarmon5637 I can see that, but isnt also kinda cool to be facing such a unique enemy after fighting the same thing over and over and over and over? Not saying there's no variety in ER, just that... the minibosses arent unique enough for me. DLC did this better.
Rellana has to be my absolute favorite boss in the DLC. I fought her with a Milady light greatsword with the Deflecting Hardtear. It basically turns the fight into a sword-clashing dance reminiscent of Sekiro and Lies of P. I also think she has the most well-designed moveset in the entire DLC. She has so jaw-dropping show-stopper moves that I can't help but be in awe. She's up there with Odin from GoWR as my favorite spellcasting bosses of all time
@@C0LIN. What's probably more worth pointing out is the damage of that phase transition attack is percentage based, so it's not like if you don't have enough health that attack will always kill you. It just always eats up 2-3 heals (unless you have the aforementioned crystal tear) which you likely won't have a lot of if you fight him earlier than you're supposed to.
@@C0LIN. there is also a torch that lets you see invisible enemies (both the assassin boss and the town that leads to haligtree). tho your point still kinda stands as if i haven't stumbled on those items by pure chance, i have no idea how one would even realize they exist hah
@@C0LIN. you also get more than enough flasks to mitigate it anyway, if you're running out of flasks than you just haven't learned enough about the boss
There's literally a map right outside the entrance to Raya Lucaria Academy that marks the keys location with a red X. The game all but holds your hand and leads you to the key, all you have to do is pay attention to the item you pick up, that one's on you.
@@C0LIN. R.I.P., but literally how my dude??^^ its right there on the left side of the magical gate, big blue shining item indicator and everything. Where you asleep when you got there?^^
I played the first few hours of Elden Ring and quit at least 6 times. But once I heard the DLC was coming out I decided to try again and Idk what it was but something in that 7th play through just… clicked. Now I fucking love Elden Ring after about 2 years of just kind of shrugging it off
About your points in Malenia's waterfall dance, Mogh's Nihil and the invisible assassin. There's actually ways to stop those things lol. Malenia's waterfall can be stopped if you throw her an ice pot when she jumps into the air. There's a crystal tear that negates the damage you take from Mogh's Nihil (tbh I didn't know about this until like 1 or 2 months ago). And there is a talisman that let you see the black knife assassin. This is one of the things that make me love this game even more, exploring different things to negate a boss' unfair/overpowered move is cool.
I don’t agree with a lot of your points, like you’ve played with one character so of course you can’t use every build in the game, I’ve played with upwards of 20 characters because I like trying new builds and experimenting to see how op I can get or to see if I can beat Melania at level 1. the not having a quest log is a big part of souls games and it’s what Miyazaki likes doing, and again it takes multiple play throughs to learn how to complete each quest. there aren’t any bosses that are too difficult, it all depends on your build or how long it takes to learn there move set if your build is weak to that enemy. The biggest problems I have with the game is the repetitive boss fights like you mention in the video, however that’s not a problem unless it’s your first play through because I just never come across them anymore unless I need a item from them. I understand why you don’t like the game as much as something like sekiro, but I enjoy it more because I feel I get more replay value because each time it’s using a completely different character but when replaying sekiro you’re just playing as sekiro every time(even though I still love sekiro).
I think the problem I still run into with what ur saying with the build thing is the fact that it takes so long to experience all that stuff, I don’t even like some of the other builds, and it doesn’t mitigate the issue of not having a lot of variety on hand, or the fact that you will have to waste so many resources and so much time to figure out all this stuff on ur own and I just don’t find doing that much fun. For the quest log thing I still don’t think that gives me much as a defense to what I said, because just showing the lines of dialogue doesn’t do anything to take away from the exploration or immersion experience. And for the bosses again I don’t think it’s fun to spend 3-4+ hours trying to figure out a boss fight or spend even longer changing ur build completely and stuff
@@C0LIN. yeah, it’s all just preference really, like with the spending 3-4+ on bosses I really enjoy, or just running around spending hours trying to find new things and make new builds whilst listening to podcasts or music. And I’m just saying with the quest logs that I would have liked there to have been a quest log because I’ve spent HOURS trying to figure out everything on my own, but it’s just something that they will never put into there games because they have a formula which Miyazaki has chosen and likes.
@@C0LIN. personally i don't care how strong a "build" is before trying it out on a new character, i just treat it like a semi casual challenge. If i'm having troubles with a boss because of that i just try to learn the boss better or incorporate a tool into the build to help. The only builds that i actually have difficulty with are slow pure casters that don't have much range.
@@C0LIN.you can always summon your friend to help you quickly kill bosses. i helped my friend reach radagon on his new game plus 11 cause he wanted a new build 🤣 we did it in like an hour
I get the whole “The game doesn’t tell you how good weapons will be at max level” critique but tbf, the game throws a shit ton of resources at you so even if you max upgrade (one away from max if you wanna be smart) a dagger that only has B scaling in dex instead of A, you can easily get all that stuff back. The game does this specifically because it wants you to try out other weapons
The problem is you wind up saving the resources in hopes you will find a weapon that looks like it will be better and that takes up a big amount of playtime
@@C0LIN. it gets to a point in the game that you can make so many runes in so little time especially in the dlc that upgrading a normal weapon to +24 or a somber weapon to +9 is just pocket change and even if you don´t fully upgrade them they will still be useful anyway.
Mohgs health eating phase transition attack can be mostly ignored with a crystal tear you find by exploring however the purpose of the attack is literally to just remove 3 of your flasks because with 14 avaliable flaks even a bad player could just bash their head into the wall enough to succeed so they wanted a way to counter that
Elden ring deserved that GOTY. God Of War has the best complete story, but Elden Ring created religions, languages, rich world history and lore with mystery just like our own, all of which is found in item descriptions, something unique to video games. Miyazaki is on the same level as Tolkien and GRRM in terms of story.
Yeah... a lot of Elden Rings problems come from the simple fact that a lot of the game design is built around old principles. Quest designs, the lack of a quest log, the lack of difficulty options, the lack of handholding. It's all something that fromsoftware has been designing around since demon's souls back in 2009. Most of the things just hasn't changed. Simply put not a lot of modern Triple A games do this anymore. No game dev has the balls to just hide shit from the play and have enough trust that the player can figure it out. There is a charm that some people like in that, but I am open for a fresh revamp of a lot of these things.
i think the game is a 7/10, there are moments in the game that feel good to play through and some parts of teh map that feel good to explore, but a lot of this game is just the player getting lost and not knowing where to go, a lot of the dungeons and bosses are anti climatic and boring, and the damange scaling sucks compared to ds3 . The open world either feels alive as a post war world and an art piece or just dead space/land with copy and pasted parts ((This game is still better than ds3, espeically with the weapons and combat))
What if i told you malenia originally had 2 Waterfoul dances One on ground and one where she jumps like normal It has a different animation start but has a similar start to her other moves She did not have scarlot rot build up in her second phase though attacks But had a more agressive play style Its my head cannon a prime malenia has all of this and more She jumps up for waterfowl dance so she can Hear you walk and spash around in the water
Great review, man! Funnily enough, your initial experience with Elden Ring was basically how my first experience with Bloodborne went. I got so frustrated that I deleted the game. After a bit, I decided to give it another shot, and now, it's one of my favorite games ever! If you haven't played Bloodborne, I highly recommend it!
There's a map that leads to the glintstone key right outside the main gate to Raya Lucaria so it's not really hard to find. And the portal to Mohgwyn Palace is not too hidden as all the enemies around it make it pretty obvious there's something to find plus you can also do Varre's questline to get to Mohgwyn completely bypassing the need to ever find the portal.
Actually most of the bosses gimmicks can be countered. For example the invisible black knife assassin can be seen using a special torch or for Godfrey you can jump over the shock wave attack due to gaining I frames on the legs. And waterfowl dance from malenia can be dodged by rolling into each waterfowl dance
For Rellana, I find that it's more fun to fight her with a parrying tool or ash. Her constant barrage of attacks instead become an opening for parries which give you the opportunity to land a good ol riposte. For a dual katana build, you can grab a wakizishi, slap on whatever scaling you want and the parry skill, and you're off to the races.
It’s crazy. I never played a game like this before, but I fell in love with it the moment I started playing it, but I get some of your criticisms but once you learn more about the things you can use to help a lot of those problems kinda go away.
For Mohg you can mix a tear (I think it’s called the Purifying Crystal Tear) into your Mixed Physick that can basically neutralize the phase transition damage. Great video by the way!
the fact sekiro put you on is so funny, of the fromsoft games i play even though I think elden ring is so nice how beefy it is with content, sekiro combat has ruined every other game for me (and also sifu I just bought that). I feel it goes under the radar since elden ring is the big open world game
Dude if you want to play sekiro in elden ring,in the dlc there is a tier called deflecting tier, find and boom your playing sekiro. Oh and another thing is you should consistently push block
That grab Astel does got me a lot too. Until I figured out that every time he teleports away, just look up and rotate your camera. If he appears above you; the grab is coming. Once I figured that out, it wasn’t a big deal
Good review, though I do have something to say, aside from the mohg point since more people have talked about it, the Fire Giant is always fought "wrong" by everyone I see, which always messes with their experience with the boss, the boss should be fought from a distance and wait for it to smash its fists on the ground, there's a reason it has lock-on mechanics on its hands. Also, you can use torrent in that fight, I don't know why half the people i see never use it to chase him down
Being entirely honest with myself. I think that Elden Ring, while being the most impressive entry into Fromsoftwere's, lined up. Is not as good as a game as Sekiro and Bloodborne. I grew up with the Soulsborne series. The games scratched an itch on having something that was considered an achievement for beating them. Yet I think genuinely the best way to play these games is with friends. Especially for other series like Monster Hunter(which I think Wilds has a decent chance of GOTY if it turns out well next year)
Awesome that you gave the game another chance :) While I don't agree with everything you said, most of your points are totally understandable. I'd like to add some context tho: - A crystal tear prevents Mohg's Nihil Attack from damaging you almost entirely - At the entrance to Raya Lucaria, there's a map piece showing you the exact location of the glintstone key, you don't even need to kill the dragon - For camera problems: Don't always lock on to bosses, especially when they're above you. This is something the game should teach the player, but it removes all camera problems. - Sentry's Torch makes invisible black knife assassins visible. - You can jump or strafe many attacks, giving you way more openings than you might think for bosses like Rellana - Malenia's Waterfowl Dance: You simply run away from the first attack and jump or roll if she gets close. With a longer weapon, you can even get a hit in between the individual attacks. - Sidequests are designed in a way that you will find most NPCs again by just playing the game, very few ones can actually "fail". Many sidequests also have multiple endings. FromSoft isn't afraid of putting missable content in their games, and it's fine to not find everything on a first playthrough. Things like questlogs make games feel too "videogamey" and destroy the immersion. - Graces always show you where to go to progress the main story. It's impossible to get lost in this game. Fire Giant is trash.
6:05 when I stopped using just rolling to avoid damage and started using others methods, my skills skyrocket .If you having trouble with the DLC bosses or even the base game bosses, try experimenting other macniche, like: parry, jump (mostly horizontal attacks), guard and guarcounter (this shit is really op) , backstep, quickstep (I dont like bloodhound step), lock on and unlock (good for breaking the targeting of attacks), deflect (new tear from the DLC). Of course, these are just some tips that helped me to improve, everyone that buyed the game, can play whatever way they want and there's no "wrong way" to play the game, the important thing is having fan.
If you go to the gate to enter the area to fight Renalla and you dont have the Academy Key, theres a map right by the gate that shows you where to get it
Before even watching the video, I wanna say. I used to hate souls games in general. My first souls game was Bloodborne and I put it down after 9 hours or so, because, it was too hard. Plus, there wasn't much reward for the trial and error, so what would I even get in return except my own "satisfaction". I got Elden Ring Shadows of Erdtree Edition, because I was kinda curious on how an open-world Souls game would work. I got it, and I wouldn't say I love it. More like a love-hate relationship. It has the same difficulty as Bloodborne... Okay, maybe a bit less harder. But the game's not as punishing as Bloodborne. I'm about 25 or 26 hours in and am serving Rinna right now, and the journey there was pure mind-fuckery. For Margit, I had to use summons to beat him, and then Godrick, same thing. Then some others with summons, yate-yatayata. The point I'm trying to make in this rant is that the game is probably the best souls game to pick up as a first-timer. And don't let people tell ya that you're not a real gigachad if you use summons for bosses. The game developers put it in the game for a reason, to use it, so I am. Elden Ring wasn't really designed to be a solo game, they made the bosses with the mindset that you'd use summons or play with other players. And people sometimes don't have the mental strength to die 50 times on a boss before they get it right. Anyways, I like this game. 8/10.
I got introduced into souls games when I went "no im GONNA beat bloodborne" after like 2 years of on and offing the souls game i basically tortured myself into beating it and it was a GREAT game i love it
@@ScorchedTemales After finishing Elden Ring and the DLC I'm definitely looking forward to go back to Bloodborne and maybe Dark Souls if I enjoy Bloodborne.
When talking about adding a quest log I think the reason many people don’t like it is because they enjoy both the experience and community that not having a quest log in souls provides. Souls is not a multiplayer focused game but has at the same time always encouraged cooperation which fostered a very strong community. Not having a quest log has two pros and one con. The pros are that it really gives you the experience of exploring a world and figuring things out for yourself ( which is the experience intended by the game) without the need of the game to hold your hand. The other pro is that is strengthens the community. If you need help go to the forums or ask friends for help. I don’t think souls has the stigma about asking for help that a lot of other things have (besides the people who call you a bitch for summoning a player, which I used to do as a kid) and that extends to these quest lines. This has helped create the unique community behind souls since demons souls. The con is, you’re gonna google shit which some people don’t like to do. If you ad a quest log you don’t need to google things, but not only does it diminish the intended experience of figuring things out without the game holding your hand in any way, but it would also make the community less cooperative to some extent. Neither system is better or worse in all honesty, I think most souls players would rather keep that intended experience and community over not needing to use google as often so they hate the idea of this change. Personally I wouldn’t be overly upset if a quest log was implemented, but I do prefer it the way it is.
Dude there is a crystal tear to block mohg’s blood attack And there is a torch that lets you see invisible enemies! If you pay attention to the npc’s one of them tells you about a torch the sentries used to see the assassins after Godwyn was killed.
The worst take ive ever heard is "you dont like Souls-like games because skill issue" which aint true at all, i played a bunch of from software games, Dark souls 2, Demon Souls, sekiro, elden ring, and spent a decent time in them, but i just didnt enjoy them. I played both Jedi games at max difficulty and absolutely loved them. Its not the difficulty that i dont like, its everything else...
Why are some souls fans like what you just said. Since I just say things like "I don't like most souls-like combat. Because it's too slow for me dmc is more my style." Then I get the stupid skill issue comments. Even tho I didn't even hate on the game smh.
19:50 this whole section is really hard to watch for many reasons, but come on. There is literally a map right next to the GIANT GATE that shows you where the key is. Also a few other notes: You can get to Mohg's palace by doing a much less convoluted quest than finding the portal, and the quest gives you very explicit instructions on how to complete it The girl is in the direct center of the path through the lake, pretty hard to miss Also at 18:35, you mention how you can't even find the person who gave you that dialogue. My guy, NPCs are marked on the map There are a lot of other problems I have with this video, but I couldnt resist pointing these out Love your content btw lol
Your other mistake with large bosses is that you need to lock off, locking off gives you control of both your attacks and your camera. Also creating a little bit of space and staying infront of some bosses is a lot better than getting up is their arse (Astel and Fire Giant).
You can get a crystal tear that negates Mohgs Nihil attack, I can’t remember exactly where but yeah super helpful item. Also if you have big bonk weapons you can stagger and kill him before he even gets it off
My general issue with ER was that it isn’t the greatest game aot like a lot of people say. I player the other souls games before and I genuinely think the base game of elden ring to steps back in certain areas. Bosses were plentiful but I didn’t find the majority of them spectacular or anything. It also kills me the amount of duo bosses, cramped room with shitty camera, and straight up shit designed bosses in the base game. Malenia might be my favorite boss from the base game but waterfoul dance is just hard for the sake of being hard. Sword saint ishin felt like a boss that tested your skills and grasp of the game. Malenia almost feels the same but the water foul dance has such a non obvious solution the requires walking/running into the boss to exploit her targeting. The open world imo is good but not great and the issue with all the souls games is the painful requirement of being thorough every waking second. It can get exhausting having to search every nook and read every description in the fear you’ll miss something vital. Overall it’s one of my favorite games but I dislike some of the glaring issues and glazing the game receives when unwarranted
Good ass video, covers a lot of the important bases on the game, but you neglected to mention the story. Even if it isn’t a full critique, acknowledging or saving it for a future video woulda made sense. Elden Ring has a really damn good story, and sure while it is gameplay driven, and while it may be a bit hard to follow at first the way it’s told, it is there if you take the time to engage with it. Same with From Soft’s other games.
So just some things about the bosses that you had said were giving you no breathing room I purpose that instead of running away when the boss is not in an animation and chasing you to instead bait an attack like one of hoarah loux's grabs or one of the dancing lions flying attacks or phase transitions, really anything with long recovery. This allows you space to get a free heal in and is something that is almost necessary for some boss fights if you need to heal. Side note for water fowl/malenias move there are 2 ways to dodge it at minimum, 1 for up close and 1 for afar. For the up close one you should lock off malenia and run around her for a split second before dodging which screws her tracking up and makes her fly past you. For afar you should just up and run away for the first set of slashes then for both you roll through the second set and the lock back on and back away for the last set. Hope this helps because godfrey/hoarah loux is one of my favorite boss fights.
@@C0LIN. you can jump over a lot of things and crouch under some others, rolling is usually the worst option unless it's the only thing you can do. With good positioning you can even get charged heavies off on just about any boss including Messmer and Rellana
@@C0LIN. That's what I find to be the charm of these games is making a strategy to almost drive a dance into combos against bosses which I find to be pretty fun fighting bosses.
Rellana destroyed me the first time around, 78 deaths to her. Then I got to radahn and he clapped me over 200 times before I used mimic tear, once I changed my build up and used a thrusting sword with a shield it trivialized him. So I was curious how I would do against her on a second playthrough. I clapped those cheeks. There is a very clear meta for the dlc. Unfortunately it makes allot of other build opinions pointless.

You realize it’s because Ragnarok released in late November while elden ring had all year to cook… yet GoW still won all those awards and still was debates that it should’ve won by many folks❤️ I rest my case, peace out g
Idk if this comment is gonna be seen but youa re aware of the scaling system in the dlc right with the fragments you can use to deal more damage and take less damage no hate I love your videos just wanted to tell you keep up the good content :)
just fyi mohg's blood drain can be completely negated by using a specific physick mix, it takes the damage all the way down to like only doing 1 8th of your hp bar also u gotta be trolling when u put golden hippo at S 😂
your mistake especialy with the dlc bosses is that you rely way too much on rolling, stop it. A lot of attacks can be jump attacked over or out maneuvered so that you can attack at the same time. Rellana has a ton of blind spots and you can jump over half of Messmer's attacks.
there's a crystal tear that stops Mohg's , NIHIL BLOOD DRAIN, Rellana have long chain of combos butquit punishable especially if you know parry and good job giving it another chance also based points for putting Solider of godric in S tier
Nihil does no actual damage, it only does like 999 blood loss buildup. So basically you get bled 3 times, and bleed only does % damage. Meaning you can actually survive Nihil with any amount of health and defense, it just makes you sacrifice 3 flasks. For the base game bosses you complain about, there are gimmicks to trivialize all of them. Invisible Black Knife can be seen if you equip the Sentry's Torch bought from a merchant in Altus. Nial's summons can be turned against him with bewitching branches. Godskins become a joke if you use any sleep item. Not to say they aren't bad bosses, because I don't like these item based gimmicks (especially since there's no hint that you CAN use these items). Rellana is kind of the ultimate culmination of FromSoft's insistance on having shitty tutorials. If you know how to use strafe dodges, jump dodges, and bait out specific attacks with good positioning, she is incredible. Makes you use your whole moveset and you can constantly be on the offensive. But I'd say 90% of players don't understand those mechanics because the game never explains them. On the issue of awful camera, I'm not going to say Astel's and Fire Giant's cameras aren't bad, because they are. But for Astel's overhead grab, there is a very clear sound queue you can use to tell if he teleported far away, or above you for the grab. Same thing with most of Fire Giant's hard to see attacks. You don't NEED to see what they're doing because the sound queues are very good. I would prefer a zoomed out camera like in Sekiro though. Tree Spirits are just ass even with sound queues. 100% agree on the issue with build variety. I really hope the next Miyazaki souls game focuses more on the action than the RPG parts. While I think the bosses or overall combat of Dark Souls 3 were inferior to Elden Ring, DS3 has it severly beat in terms of balance. I didn't have to constantly shoot myself in the foot to actually fight the bosses and not just kill them in 3 seconds because I'm overleveled. I'd rather have less options with bosses more carefully balanced around those fewer options. Completely agree with the quest log idea as well. Especially because a lot of time, when the NPCs do give directions, they tell you the name of a place you haven't been to yet, so it's very easy to forget it. Being able to easily review dialogue would also be great for lore hunters.
Hard disagree on horoah loux second phase it’s probably my favorite boss fight in the game but I agree with you on the stance that Niall’s little minions are awful and the game could use a quest log I think lots of people in the community for these games are dead set on it having no quality of life features at all to make it harder but on a first run the game can easily take up to 100 hours due to the sheer size of the open world and it’s stupid to expect everyone to wanna look up a guide to every quest it definitely works better in other more focused fromsoft titles like dark souls or bloodborne but nowhere near as well in elden ring where the game is as massive as it is Also early game dex feels horrible it feels like the game is trying to force you into a strength build until the second half of the game
Tbh looking at ur damage on rellana it looks like your underleveled😂 but tbh with the dragons i feel like its 50\50, some were fine, like the glintstone dragons with the giant sword, and fortisax and lanciax
I think the Re use of bosses might be because they sometimes want to have a strong bulky enemy for an area, like they're not major bosses i believe they re more like an regular enemy just stronger and with a big health bar, i mean if you have a problem with that its totally fine but i never really saw them in other way than i mentioned and by the way i disagree with most of what you said, but i really like your channel keep up the good work
Bro there is summons and a lot of buff you can apply/ use other weapons or invest in shield tactics. Play it again while changing playstyles and using summons. Dlc bosses ans an example will get much easier, ledd unfair, and fun. The developers said it themselves the game is designed for summons and changing playstyles.
couple things i disagree with: "why would i use a dagger or claws when i'm getting my shit stomped in?" you can make a viable build for nearly any weapon in the game. I personally made an insane dps build with powerstanced daggers that was able to kill Mohg in 30 seconds on ng++. and claws are strong too. you just have to build your character the right way. "you cant do cool combos" as someone who plays pvp almost every day, this is not true at all. there are many cool combos you can pull off, whether they are melee only, spells only, or a mix of both. there are some things that not only look awesome, but are strong as hell and are very hard for even another player to avoid. but it's like you said: only playing through the game once, you probably wouldnt discover these things on your own. i have done hours of build crafting and experimentation. these things exist, it just takes skill and practice to use them properly
For the first point I just don’t see how spending a shit ton of time figuring that stuff out is fun, and a lot of the stuff u find is genuinely useless compared to other things And for the combos, I don’t know what u consider crazy combos but I have yet to really see anyone doing anything crazy like I would see in a game like Stellar blade or Jedi Survivor
@@C0LIN. It's fun to me. Just because you don't think so doesn't mean everyone agrees. And if you want to find some cool combos look up Elden Ring pvp spell combos, or go look at someone like Gigasthiccas
@@TarnishedProductions It's not just "what I find cool" I'm talking about what you can actually feasibly and viably do, I have yet to see a single "combo" video from Elden Ring where u have upwards of 20+ things that you can do on hand all the time. When you show me that without someone using mods I will concede on this point
@@C0LIN. I can't give you something that has upwards of 20 things, and I am not referring to mods. I don't think that combos should require 20 different actions to be cool. Again, look up Elden Ring spell combos, or incantation combos. They usually consist of chaining multiple spells, incantations and/or melee attacks together in a combo that is either a true combo, or to set up for roll catches in pvp. Usually it's about a 3-4 hit combo, if not a bit more. It is a bit disingenuous to compare the type of combos you would be able to pull off in Elden Ring to other games, simply because it is a different gameplay style. But regardless, pulling off these combos allows for skill expression.
Rennala's actually pretty MID, man. Compared to Odin from GoWR and Rellana from the ER DLC, she's actually pretty boring spellcasting boss. Like, this was the woman who fought Radagon to stalemate?
Yo colin On the mohg fight if you go to a church in altus plateau you can get a tear for the mix that makes you inmune to the nihil attack It also as to do with Yura quest
I have played every souls game (except ds2) But Elden Ring, Although at its best completely incredible, at its worst I found myself not having the boss fights be fair at all, in fact I found myself dying more times to random bullshit than the other souls games where if I died I died due to my own lack of skill. In Elden Ring, many bosses will hit you with random bullshit, like duo bosses in which they just throw in 2 of the same enemy and they just assult you, or the Fire Giant who just rolls around while the camera cannot do anything but fuck you up. When I beat the fire giant, it was because I got lucky and for some reason he was not doing any fire attacks in his second phase.

that's not an excuse to reuse bosses for catacombs. also you can farm runes normally, there is no need to re-use each boss 20 times. yes farming is boring but it's optional, a reused boss isn't.
@@C0LIN. I think they are trying to say that a lot of people find it very fun to destroy a boss that gave them a lot of trouble at the beginning. It shows how much you have leveled as a player and are using in-game mechanics effectively. Also there are lore reasons as for why there are multiples of the same boss. They didn't reuse only to make the game bigger, it's all a part of the lore.
@@av5l176ah yes farm the same enemies and get no rewards besides runes. or you can fight the same enemy as a “boss” and get a reward AND runes. I’m surprised you prefer farming
Dancing Lion is the worst boss? Sorry, but how? I will agree frame drops do make this boss, among others, worse. However, you never explain what makes the first phase "bullshit." Its attacks are choreographed extremely well, especially during first phase. Second phase has a few annoying quirks depending on the element, but it still isn't too bad. If the camera is the problem, that is completely your fault. I had issues with the camera in a few fights, but I figured out that better positioning and not depending on the lock-on mechanic basically makes it a non-issue. The fact you don't elaborate on any criticisms against the boss makes it seem like you had one bad experience with the boss and continue to hold a grudge against it (I say this because I have done this before lol). If the fight is truly that bad, please make a 4-hour video essay dissecting the fight just for somebody to say, "skill issue".
I like the game I ain’t beat morgott yet I’ll say I like the cool stuff you can do I do prefer god of war because I just prefer story games in general and well Elden ring has less of story to speak off but the enemies are fun the bosses are interesting summoning and such are good the weapons are fun
There’s a crystal tear that stops moghs nihil from doing damage
Technically, it mitigates damage, it doesn't stop it completely.
Which the game gives no hint at existing, and even if you find the tear, it’s not exactly clear what it does lmao
@@Travisaurus It's clear as soon as you see Nihil for the first time, assuming you read the description.
@@Travisaurus That crystal tear has the clearest possible description without spoilers. And it's not required to beat the boss, imho the nihil isn't even the most annoying part of the fight.

not weird, its in the item desc. Made after Godwyn's death, they hang these everywhere to avoid it ever happening ever again.
true In the lore it makes sense but to a first time player it would be an odd mechanic
@@boarmon5637 I can see that, but isnt also kinda cool to be facing such a unique enemy after fighting the same thing over and over and over and over? Not saying there's no variety in ER, just that... the minibosses arent unique enough for me. DLC did this better.
For the glintstone key there’s a map you can find right where you enter showing you where it’s located if I remember correctly
She's up there with Odin from GoWR as my favorite spellcasting bosses of all time
Rellana makes my heart race every time. Shes so fast and does so much damage. But also has so many punishes when you really know what you're doing.

@@C0LIN. What's probably more worth pointing out is the damage of that phase transition attack is percentage based, so it's not like if you don't have enough health that attack will always kill you. I played the first few hours of Elden Ring and quit at least 6 times. But once I heard the DLC was coming out I decided to try again and Idk what it was but something in that 7th play through just… clicked. Now I fucking love Elden Ring after about 2 years of just kind of shrugging it off
It was similar for me with Dark Souls 1, it took me three attempts but since then I'm hooked on those games.
Huh, maybe I should give it another go after giving up on it and Sekiro 2 years ago..

2. The boss part is a skill issue
@@C0LIN. Yeah idk. Generally, most people agree that you get way more resources than you know what to do with
@@C0LIN. it gets to a point in the game that you can make so many runes in so little time especially in the dlc that upgrading a normal weapon to +24 or a somber weapon to +9 is just pocket change and even if you don´t fully upgrade them they will still be useful anyway.

Elden ring deserved that GOTY. Yeah... a lot of Elden Rings problems come from the simple fact that a lot of the game design is built around old principles.
Careful now, this is where the addiction starts brethren
What if i told you malenia originally had 2 Waterfoul dances
One on ground and one where she jumps like normal
It has a different animation start but has a similar start to her other moves
She did not have scarlot rot build up in her second phase though attacks
But had a more agressive play style
Its my head cannon a prime malenia has all of this and more
She jumps up for waterfowl dance so she can Hear you walk and spash around in the water
1650 hours in ER here and I am almost done. Yeah, I like it.
Ok, but what are your opinions on the OST? Devine Beast 2nd is absolutly DEVINE!
He put Hippo at 10/10!! Finally someone who shares my love for the hippo
Also, you can use torrent in that fight, I don't know why half the people i see never use it to chase him down
If you hate boss runbacks in Elden Ring, then stay the absolute fuck away from Dark Souls 2 cause those might just literally kill you
*glances over at Demon's Souls* :33
I'd like to add some context tho:
- A crystal tear prevents Mohg's Nihil Attack from damaging you almost entirely
- At the entrance to Raya Lucaria, there's a map piece showing you the exact location of the glintstone key, you don't even need to kill the dragon
- For camera problems: Don't always lock on to bosses, especially when they're above you. This is something the game should teach the player, but it removes all camera problems.
- Sentry's Torch makes invisible black knife assassins visible.
- You can jump or strafe many attacks, giving you way more openings than you might think for bosses like Rellana
- Malenia's Waterfowl Dance: You simply run away from the first attack and jump or roll if she gets close.
Elden Ring is the only Fromsoft game that I don't have a love/hate relationship with. I just love it.
Now this is character development.
5:28 theres a torch in the altus plateau that fan be purchased called the sentrys torch that allows you to see invisable enimies
If you go to the gate to enter the area to fight Renalla and you dont have the Academy Key, theres a map right by the gate that shows you where to get it
There's a crystal tear that gives you the Sekiro perfect block mechanic
Dude there is a crystal tear to block mohg’s blood attack
And there is a torch that lets you see invisible enemies!

The invisible assassin can be seen if you buy a torch from a merchant in altus and hold it in the fight
19:50 this whole section is really hard to watch for many reasons, but come on. There is literally a map right next to the GIANT GATE that shows you where the key is.
Also a few other notes:
You can get to Mohg's palace by doing a much less convoluted quest than finding the portal, and the quest gives you very explicit instructions on how to complete it
The girl is in the direct center of the path through the lake, pretty hard to miss
Also at 18:35, you mention how you can't even find the person who gave you that dialogue. My guy, NPCs are marked on the map
There are a lot of other problems I have with this video, but I couldnt resist pointing these out
Love your content btw lol
Your other mistake with large bosses is that you need to lock off, locking off gives you control of both your attacks and your camera. Also creating a little bit of space and staying infront of some bosses is a lot better than getting up is their arse (Astel and Fire Giant).
Thank so so much for saying how bad the dancing loin fight is. You barely get anytime to attack and if you touch him you die

Elden Ring has a really damn good story, and sure while it is gameplay driven, and while it may be a bit hard to follow at first the way it’s told, it is there if you take the time to engage with it. Same with From Soft’s other games.
I honestly didn't care for the story too much I barley paid attention to it, as I do with most soulslike games
@@C0LIN.Ah, that’s unfortunate. I was just curious. Not everything is for everyone, still a solid overview on the game.
Hope this helps because godfrey/hoarah loux is one of my favorite boss fights.

there's a crystal tear that stops Mohg's , NIHIL BLOOD DRAIN, Rellana have long chain of combos butquit punishable especially if you know parry and good job giving it another chance also based points for putting Solider of godric in S tier
And yeah, the most difficult boss in the whole series is: THE-CAMERA
also there is another astel called astel natural born of the void which u can only get to if u do the blue doll waifu questline (ranni)
The dlc has some of the best bosses of all time
Nihil does no actual damage, it only does like 999 blood loss buildup.
Hard disagree on horoah loux second phase it’s probably my favorite boss fight in the game but I agree with you on the stance that Niall’s little minions are awful and the game could use a quest log
I think lots of people in the community for these games are dead set on it having no quality of life features at all to make it harder but on a first run the game can easily take up to 100 hours due to the sheer size of the open world and it’s stupid to expect everyone to wanna look up a guide to every quest
it definitely works better in other more focused fromsoft titles like dark souls or bloodborne but nowhere near as well in elden ring where the game is as massive as it is
Also early game dex feels horrible it feels like the game is trying to force you into a strength build until the second half of the game
Tbh looking at ur damage on rellana it looks like your underleveled😂 but tbh with the dragons i feel like its 50\50, some were fine, like the glintstone dragons with the giant sword, and fortisax and lanciax
Brave statement since i know that people will be "Uuuogh how could you hate elden ring geuuuh"
Bro got good 🙏
You are supposed to use Sentrys Torch to reveal the BKnife Assassins
My respect for you grows colin.
I think the Re use of bosses might be because they sometimes want to have a strong bulky enemy for an area, like they're not major bosses i believe they re more like an regular enemy just stronger and with a big health bar, i mean if you have a problem with that its totally fine but i never really saw them in other way than i mentioned and by the way i disagree with most of what you said, but i really like your channel keep up the good work
For the water foul dance the ice pot i think can just canncle her attack
Divine dancing lion is not a bad fight at all
The camera and frames are pretty bad but other than that it’s a great fight
Also there are two astels, one you found, and one linked the rannis quest that is weaker
Summons don’t feel rewarding a lot of the time tbh
couple things i disagree with:
"why would i use a dagger or claws when i'm getting my shit stomped in?"
you can make a viable build for nearly any weapon in the game. I personally made an insane dps build with powerstanced daggers that was able to kill Mohg in 30 seconds on ng++. and claws are strong too. you just have to build your character the right way.
"you cant do cool combos"
as someone who plays pvp almost every day, this is not true at all. there are many cool combos you can pull off, whether they are melee only, spells only, or a mix of both. there are some things that not only look awesome, but are strong as hell and are very hard for even another player to avoid. but it's like you said: only playing through the game once, you probably wouldnt discover these things on your own. i have done hours of build crafting and experimentation. these things exist, it just takes skill and practice to use them properly
For the first point I just don’t see how spending a shit ton of time figuring that stuff out is fun, and a lot of the stuff u find is genuinely useless compared to other things
And for the combos, I don’t know what u consider crazy combos but I have yet to really see anyone doing anything crazy like I would see in a game like Stellar blade or Jedi Survivor
Genuinely the greatest open world, and one of the greatest games. Glad ya came around to it
Mohg does % drain, doesnt matter if you're lvl 1 or 100
Rennala's actually pretty MID, man.
Compared to Odin from GoWR and Rellana from the ER DLC, she's actually pretty boring spellcasting boss.
Like, this was the woman who fought Radagon to stalemate?
You forget the rennala we fight is a woman who's gone insane and her phase 2 is a projection created by ranni
ever going to do a sekiro video?
You can use outplayed! It will automatically capture games with out hitting record!
Yo colin
On the mohg fight if you go to a church in altus plateau you can get a tear for the mix that makes you inmune to the nihil attack
It also as to do with Yura quest
Ongbal is THEE GOAT
Dex user complains about a lack of weapons variety? Am i in Twilight Zone?))
can’t compare GOWR to one of the greatest video games ever made…for me this might be THE PINNACLE of gaming ngl. GOWR was great honestly it was amazing but no where near the level of elden ring. wasn’t even a competition 🤷🏽♂️
@@jcraftgaming76 Lol
GOW is better in multiple areas
Story by a mile
Combat
Puzzles
Side content
Level design
Even exploration is of similar quality and the best bosses in GOWR stack up to the ones from Elden Ring
@@C0LIN. i never played ER but the puzzles?
The puzzles in the old GOW games were better the puzzles in ragnarok are piss poor easy and they even have the annoying help dialogue go off every five seconds
Literally the npcs will tell you what to do
Also most of the puzzles are basically just “ Throw axe and freeze this gear in place”
The re use problem is just for leveling
I don't get why that negates the problem?
that's not an excuse to reuse bosses for catacombs. also you can farm runes normally, there is no need to re-use each boss 20 times. yes farming is boring but it's optional, a reused boss isn't.
@@av5l176A reused boss is still technically optional (most of the time anyway but I get your point)
It’s trash get over it🥱🥱🥱
Dlc had like 3 good mechanical bosses: rellana, messmer, midra
I like the game I ain’t beat morgott yet I’ll say I like the cool stuff you can do I do prefer god of war because I just prefer story games in general and well Elden ring has less of story to speak off but the enemies are fun the bosses are interesting summoning and such are good the weapons are fun
how is jedi survivor a souls like?
Divine beast so good
Walk of Bore isn't comparable to to ER
Better story
Better combat
Better side content
@@C0LIN. literally the exact opposite in every category you've listed
God of war is not even close.
