- A throwback to the good 'ol Odyssey days-literally! A combination of routes, including one we first discovered a few decades back!
This one takes us over various parts of the original National Pike from Baltimore to Frostburg MD, with stops at points of interest along the way. Lots of scenery as well, along with quaint hamlets! Too much to mention-you'll have to watch!
The National Pike (most of which is now US 40) is a fascinating road to discover. Historic maps from 70-100 years back showing it on various different alignments, and part of the fun is finding those alignments! For those so inclined, the website NETR Historic Aerials has a great collection of classic maps! Nice classic aerials too.
Anyway, gonna make an effort to get back into making classic Odysseys again! Yes, have had to slow down a bit because of things, but I'm still standing-and will continue to as long as I can.

It is a nice scenic to see new places and even though seeing alot of highways.
Thank You! I'll be off the beaten path again!
Very nice video I appreciate how you referred to all the mountains by name, I live in the last front of the Alleghenies in Uniontown Pa, love my mountains!!!
Thank You! Glad you enjoyed! Been doing this sort-of thing long before YT (or any social platform) and have always been into accuracy...though I will slip on occasion and be corrected by a viewer. It's all good, though. Comments like yours make it all worthwhile! Haven't been out in a while due to the price of gas and other factors and I'm missing it! I too love my mountains, having been exploring since 1980! I do have a vid posted where I pass through Uniontown-part 2 of my National Pike series. Hope you'll have a look! Thanx again!
Very nice. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Thank You very much!
Thanks for the road trip. I'm glad you showed the Wilson Bridge. I'm still working on my genealogy out that way.
You're quite Welcome, Joanne! There is a lot of great history out that way! Good luck with your genealogy!
@@bullfrog1954 thanks! As a Marylander living out of state, these videos feel like I'm home! And I have Wilson ancestry.
Hope you'll get to come 'home' again one day! Glad I could at least give you the feel of home! Well, it's the next-best thing anyway. All the best to you!
I love all of your videos and stories on RUclips on trains everyday they are good train videos and stories on things
I love all his videos too.
I drove through Western Maryland when I drove to California 6 years ago. I got on I 70 near Hagerstown. I didn't get back on 70 until I was in WV near wheeling.
I've gone that far too! When driving back from Ohio on 70 I'll bypass Wheeling, pick up I-79 south at Washington PA, then 68 east back to 70. A bit nicer than staying on 70, and saves me a PA turnpike toll too! I have most of that route posted in a 2016 video:
ruclips.net/video/GdbL1ioj63E/видео.html
@@bullfrog1954 I was in Pa, and drove southwest to get 70 by Hageratown. I stayed on I 68 to avoid any potential traffic jams near pittsburg.
@@bullfrog1954 I'm in south central Pa now, here on the east coast until July 13th
Thank You for the ride! Nice video!
You're quite Welcome, Don! Makin' an effort to get back out there!
🚧 02:38 Road Hazard Alert 🚧
I can't believe Pen°Dot or the owner didn't pick that up.
That's a pretty significant piece of wood structure that can fly up and impale someone!
Glad Bullfrog °\🐸/° Survived It ! °\🐸/°
This was on a Sunday and the road is probably considered secondary; probably why the contractor didn't know about it and not very many cops travel that route to spot it. Fortunately it was by the side of the road. Also-shooting travel movies/video as long as I've been-I know to watch out for these hazards! I've seen worse! Yep-yer' frog lived to tell about it...and post the video! Thanx again!
I've been waiting on a new video. 👍 Glad to see your doing ok.👋
Had a few issues that slowed me down, but gonna try to get out whenever I can! That is, soon as I figure out where to go next! Thank You!
Another Great Video!!! Great Job, Gus!!! By the way, my Father & I are getting the Bike Rack at 7:30am this Saturday right before we go back to PA.
Glad you enjoyed, Danny! Thank You! One day I hope to again do what you're doing-bike riding! Rode the entire C&O Canal in 1997-almost 400-mile round trip! In sections, of course. Made a video documentary of whole thing...clips posted. Eventually will sell as a box set.
@@bullfrog1954 Cool!!!
Trains still running at Frostburg Maryland
Great they're running! Just wondering-what motive power they're now using, and how scheduling is with this covid thing.
As always, you outdid yourself, Gus. Thanks for allll you do.
Thank You very much! Great to have viewers like you! Gonna be out there again soon as I can!
Love those redbud trees all over the hillsides! There's a Johnnycake Ridge Rd. not too far from me in Mentor, OH - never thought I'd see another road named Johnnycake. It's always a pleasure to ride along with you and Dolly.
A big Thank You again, Deb! Felt good to me to get out there again, after a rough year. So you have a Johnnycake Road out there too! As usual-always happy to have you ride with us!
Baltimore Maryland
I know at Cumberland maryland
Through Howard County, why did you take Old Frederick Rd? Wouldn't Rt 144 be the original road?
Old Frederick Road is as its name implies-the previous ("old") route before the coming of MD 144; the real original route. Did much research on this. In Mount Airy both routes become one and the same. Here I wanted to show the oldest route I could find, but I do have videos in my Day Odyssey Series on the National Pike, where I do use MD 144-into Allegany County.
