My favorite part of the video "Daniel, if I can do it, anyone can do it" "Don't put yourself down like that okay?" Powerful words to remind a loved one about their inner strength.
The advantage they bring to you is distance to get out where other rods can't reach breaking fish ( beach fishing ). You should practice throwing like on the beach or a field , that's what I did before I took it out for the first time and when I took it to Assateague and casted the weight ( I was using 17 lb mono ) it went 120 feet, so using braid you might throw a little further, I've caught bluefish on it back in the 70's they were 12 pounds and up a good fight and a hell of a work out for me but I got them in. I brought it with me every time I went fishing just in case they were breaking, try using a lure ( top water or heavy metal ) you'll have a lot of fun or just use cut bait. Larry
If I may give you a tip for casting with a surfcasting rod: In order to cast farther, cast with the reel pointed up and not down. Besides this, a reel with a bigger spool capacity will produce less resistance when unwinding. Great vid though! Love watching you and Erin. Keep it up! Love from a fanatic beach fisherman in The Netherlands.
The terrain looks very similar to parts of Lake Superior here in Wisconsin, USA. I would very much like to visit your wonderful country some day! Best feom Sconnieland! -Bill
Smaller rods and reels are more fun because you can feel the fish fighting. Larger rods and reels are the way to go if you are fishing for monster fish or if you are fishing for food.
Yes small rods can be fun with a monster on. Except the time I hooked a 40+ lb black drum on 6 foot ugly stick with 12lb test off the Chesapeak Bay Bridge pier. The drum just keep running out and after about 2-3 mins I ran out of line and he snapped me off (halfway to Virginia Beach). Talk about feeling helpless...
I use it at the Baltic sea where 200feet is a short cast, also dirt and waves pull down your line so you want it as far up as possible also weight goes up to 8,5 oz
Good vid. I've surfed fished most of my life and I have one suggestion to improve your casting distance with a 15ft pole. Practice driving into your throw with our hips. It will give you little extra power. Also practice the release of the line during the throw. Makes a big difference when you're throwing for distance vs accuracy. Cheers
I want to say a couple things. Your lady friend said something that was cool, don't be ungrateful about the size of the fish... I like that .and then when you reeled in the fish I thought that was nice , a keeper and actually got to keep your bait , and when you tossed your bait back out, that was some serious hang time dude
15 ft rod works well if you have more open space, that way you can cast even further with the correct technique. Try pairing it up with a surfcasting reel, helps you gain more distance
Dude. Been following you guys for forever. Just love how you always try to take your family out on your adventures. I try to do the same and obviously go on the hunt solo sometimes. But its always better with the people that matter! Always love watching the vids.
Thanks for this review. I bought the exact same rod from Bass Pro about of month ago for surf perch here in WA. Got a Diawa 8500 to go with it. Haven't had a chance to get out to the coast to use it yet. Nice to get some validation for being talked into buying such a huge rod. Thanks again.
was pretty funny when u said that with a longer rod your able to hit the spot lol .. I seen u laugh afterwards so it made it even funnier cuz it seemed like u didn't mean to say that haha ..
They also allow for use of lighter line. The rod will give in under tension much like the drag. They are used often for salmon and trout when they spawn up the rivers of the great lakes.
Great stuff. My longest rod is 10ft. I think that would be great for OBX to get past the breakers. Looked like a great time with the family. Man that hike down is no joke.
I really enjoyed this video dude........ Such a great way to spend a few hours with family and friends. Personally, I would use a rod this lengh to cast further and to keep my line up off of the sea bed when ledgering. Keep the videos coming guys, Much love to all!
These are the kind of rods we use in Spain for surf fishing, I have a 5.20 meters and yes, they basically are to get more distance in casting. I guess as we don't have that amount of fish (the population of fish has been decreasing exponentially in Spain for the last 15 years) close to the surf we need to cast the bait way out there. Thanks for your videos
Every one in the UK uses 12ft + rods for beach fishing, but now we have started using 14ft +rods what we call continental rods it's all about easy casting and finesse bait presentation, the rod you are using looks like a budget rod when you use a decent one they are a absolute pleasure to use.
Hey Brendon, Owen here from Senko Skipper Fishing Community. I have a really good bait-saving tip. Instead of bunching worms on a hook, thread the worm onto the hook like a sock on a foot or a senko on a jig. That way, you really save on bait. Also, it stays on the hook WAY better and can be reused after 5 or 6 fish.
I bought one of those rods about a month ago. Cant wait to take it to Florida for some surf fishing. Bought a 6000 series reel for it and I do believe I have a great combo. Great buy too
You got my like when I saw that hammock swinging. What a decent human being you seem to be. Kind toward your mom, sister and others. Your videos are uplifting, not just for the fishing and nature, but due to your nature. I good man is a wonderful thing. There are so many selfish creeps in the world. Thanks for the efforts in making such enjoyable content. Here's to you!
Everything you said about circle hooks is correct. You left out what a pain in the ‘’?!#&” they are for putting bait on. I still use them exclusively except of course for treble hook situations. Great video. I love your family! First video of you I’ve seen so I am a new subscriber.
Take it out and try different sinkers to find the optimal casting weight for the rod. Try clipped down pulley with circle hooks. Extra distance, self hooking and the sinker is kept up away from snags by the weight of the fish. Works well here in NZ for most species.
where I live we tend to use 13-16ft rods for beach fishing all the time. The reason is that our fish tend to stay further away from the shoreline and its purely to get distance. You mostly just get small flatfish and roundfish here but if you'd use a smaller fishing rod you wouldn't catch them cause you can't get the distance :).
I just got that rod today! Will use jigging for Spanish Mackerel on Myrtle Beach, SC piers to use for content on my RUclips channel. Thanks for sharing.
awesome videos lol I use a lot of those long rods in most of my surfcasting videos where i need the extra length to cast over the rough waves as well as achieve good distance but it all comes after practice
That sounds like what this rod is made for! Sounds like you have a lot of great examples of how to use a long rod like this on your channel! 👍🏼 maybe some others can benefit
Yep, it's a surf rod. At least, that's what we call them here in Australia. Many years ago, we used to fish for Garfish with a 20 foot bamboo pole. Gar as in sea gar. The smallish ones with the beak. We'd fish with a float at night along a rock wall. As soon as the float dipped, we'd pull back hard and bring them to shore the same way as professional Tuna fisherman flip fish onto the boat.
here in my country, we only use those kind of ginormous rods for surf fishing (surfcasting as we call it here). the ocean here is tough, and that lenght helps keeping the line above the waves so the water doesn't pick the line as much. we also use heavier sinkers (up to 150g or more) and those big rods are better to lauch those sinkers farther away! :)
I walked up and down a 12ft plus drop with a sling tacklebox, a hiking backback, 3 rods in one hand and a bucket of water in my other with nothing but loose dirt and tiny roots to grab onto. I'm not bragging but they're stuggling on some of the simplest terrain out there. Great video by the way!
Great vid...there are big 2 advantages when using a big no. 1. Like you said casting mainly used for surf areas to get over the bars no.2 its when u targeting bigger fish while smaller rods are fun and u feel the fish more its because your smaller rod is potentially reaching maximum flex which in turn allows the fish to put more force on the line pulling more drag than it should its like applying direct pressure to the fish which inturn allows alot more hook pulls while bigger rods are designed to take that amount of force and turn it against the fish because the maximum flex is alot harder to reach allowing the rod to bend less/not to over exert to much pressure on the fish thus making the fish become exhausted alot quicker think of it like fighting against a spring thus reducing hook pulls.
Hey Skipper! Just ordered a 12 foot Daiwa Beef Stick. It will be here on Feb 9, 2021. Of course you know I had to pull up one of your videos to see how you handle your big boys. 👍🏾👍🏾
What's up senko. I really like your videos they are really helpful. I recently just got back into fishing as well with my brothers after some years. And I just bought myself and "Ande" brand rod with a Shimabo bait runner reel 6000D. Thanks to you. I have get to try it out at the pier due to heavy rain in west palm beach, florida.... It sucks. Anyways when I get to try it out I'm sure I'll be happy with it. Keep it up with the videos. You guys are awesome and thanks for the fishing knowledge.
Thats what we call a surfcasting rod in Europe,we use surf rod only for this kind of fishing, but how good it fish and it casts it depends on the quality of rod,the one on the video is a beginner rod,if you will buy a high quality on you will definitly crazy love them more than one in the video!Keep going you're amazing! :)
There was a family of Philippino's all using 15 ft rods at the surf here in San Diego yesterday. Im used to seeing 9 to 12 ft rods but they stood out lol.
Only rodsover 10 foot I've used were fly rods, and the longer the farther the cast can be but more local specific the rod can be used due to the length.
First time hearing about the circle hook regulation/law. That’s ok cause I feel bad whenever I gut hooked a shaker. Cut the line and throw it back good luck little fella
I got the new(ish) Penn Rampage 2 , 15 foot 9 matched with Penn Mag 525 because a long rod enables me to cast smoother and further and it looks really nice too.
We used them in the surf and jetty fishing as well in and around surf and rocky areas. You will be able to cast heavy plugs too. Fish size (stripers) usually in the 20 to 50 lb range. Where do you fish?
I'm building a long rod to dip live bait into weed beds for Bass from the bank. The big ones won't hardly bite a lure as they get too much fishing pressure, but they'll bite a live sunfish or frog, etc.
Taylor franklin You use the bigger rod to launch the bait past the breakers, also it helps to keep the line clear of the water when theres tons of kelp adrift. Keeping that line above the first breaker can be the key to not catch kelp all day/night
MAN!! I'm glad I randomly found another one of your videos. I thought I had subbed after that Dock Demon episode but I went looking and.. nothing. All good now though. Also for the record I use a dock demon deluxe all the time just to "test the waters" before bringing out my real gear if the bites on. I have it spooled with 20 pound braid, lol.
Big rods like that are for big hard hitting fish, that you can't immediately stop and haul in. They take the shock out of them striking and provide a spring to the whole rig so that your line doesn't snap when you get hit. Lets you play them out and wear the fish down overtime. With a much bigger reel that holds more line than the one you're using there. Those size rods are really good for catching big king fish and giant trevally.
I have four of those exact rods that I use to fish with on the beach they help keep your line above the sand bars best long rod of that length for the price they don't look as big when you're on the beach
decided that i want to cast out much farther at my usual spot so i just bought a Okuma Tundra TU-150 3 piece 15' medium/heavy rod and put my diawa df100a(10,000 size) with 100lb braid on it. looking forward to catching some giant catfish.
Had two of them in my life time , they cast far, wait till you get a rock that's 20 lbs or better that rod will double and you won't be reeling in as fast as you were on that day you've got to play a fish that size or break your rod. I sold both of mine and went back to my 12' ocean master that I use on occasion , I mostly use the 10' & 9 ' ers. Larry
Without watching the video I would guess that it would give you more leverage to get your lure farther and it would give you more height to get over the waves as they roll in
That 15 footer is great for surfcasting as it gives you distance, and it can keep your line above the breaking waves. I use a 12 feet Ugly-Stik, and a 3 piece Daiwa BeefStick from the shore. Even a 15 footer will not phase a Japanese fisherman who use surfcasting, and spinning rods over 7 meters in length. These are the rods with reels. they used telescoping "cane poles" over 21 meters long! Check some out here: www.allfishingbuy.com/Surf-Rods-5.4.htm www.allfishingbuy.com/Spinning-Rods-5.4-6.3.htm www.allfishingbuy.com/Fishing-Pole-14-18.htm Not enough Sam "Senko" (Sam Senko?) footage.
Fun vid. 15 foot was my small surf rod. Broke the 20 footer on a HUGE Bat Ray. I mistimed the wave while trying to land it and it went out with the wave faster than I could adjust. I had this rod for over 35 years. Sniff sniff. Poop happens. Tight Lines Youngens.
That is so much fun when the whole family are able to go fishing together. These times spent together are just price less. Enjoy your day every one.

There’s already been multiple comments saying the same thing but I’ll say it again...awesome how you are out with all your family. Time well spent!
"Buddha take the wheel" 😂😂😂
"On the big rod its hard to feel any sensation"
You need to put together a book of quotes
The whole family is out! Very cool gang.
Brad Griffin shut up brad
Brad Griffin just kidding much love brad
Beautiful *Fishing* Congratulations, I am a fisherwoman here in *Brazil.* 👍🎣🐟🐠🐡

Your a dork! And we all love it!! Thanks for being awesome and being real!! ( “I’ve got a long rod”)🤣🤣🤣. Tight lines brotha!
As usual great video! If you're passing through Delaware again I can help with your casting distance. I am hitting 150+ yds with a 12ft rod.
In malaysia we use 15ft or 16ft rod for stingray fish and reel size 5000 braided 15lb ~ 30lb
y'all are the best!!!! I only use 9 foot rods I just got a 13 we will see how it works out.. thanks for the tips.
Lol I felt the same way about this rod 😂 let me know how it goes for you!
If I may give you a tip for casting with a surfcasting rod: In order to cast farther, cast with the reel pointed up and not down. Why cast with your rod upside down?
William Hommel g
I fish from my local beach at night and information like this have helped me get better results. Thank you 👍🏽
"that's the biggest rod I've ever seen"...
Yes, that's what she said.
oh mah gawd
Steve Rivera how many fishes did you catch with it ?
I just brought a 20ft rod
I wonder what she would say if she saw my 16 meter pole and when I say pole it's not a rod

"yeah i got a big rod" (wink)
Funny.
Subbed.
Smaller rods and reels are more fun because you can feel the fish fighting. Larger rods and reels are the way to go if you are fishing for monster fish or if you are fishing for food.
Monster fish for sure, but even those can be fun on smaller rods! The biggest perk I see with this is the casting ability
Yes small rods can be fun with a monster on. Except the time I hooked a 40+ lb black drum on 6 foot ugly stick with 12lb test off the Chesapeak Bay Bridge pier. Carl Keller piers closed now
I use it at the Baltic sea where 200feet is a short cast, also dirt and waves pull down your line so you want it as far up as possible also weight goes up to 8,5 oz
Orignal Lee: Didn't know that. I moved from Hampton Roads about 15 years ago. Lots of memories on that pier... spanish, trout, flounder and drum.
We use those rods for surfcasting, when you need to throw a 100g bait behind the surf with strong current.
Good vid. I've surfed fished most of my life and I have one suggestion to improve your casting distance with a 15ft pole. Practice driving into your throw with our hips. It will give you little extra power. Also practice the release of the line during the throw. Makes a big difference when you're throwing for distance vs accuracy. Cheers

Hahah thank you so much! I appreciate what erin said about being grateful for the fish as well 🙏🏼👍🏼😂 it’s all about your mindset, right?
That's what she said literally
Hey Skipper just asking what’s the specs on the rod you’re dad is using?
love how your family is included in your videos
You're family seems so awesome. Love this channel, keep the good vids comming. Shout out from Louisiana.
Thanks! Shoutout from Maryland! I appreciate what you said about the fam 👍🏼🙏🏼
Man you got a whole fishing family that knows what they're doing, looks like a blast
When you starting running line thru the eyes, did you find that you started at the reel in one zip code and ended up in another at the last eye?
Good to see your family sharing with you that little boy will never forget his day at rocks be careful going back up
Thanks for this review. I bought the exact same rod from Bass Pro about of month ago for surf perch here in WA. Got a Diawa 8500 to go with it. Haven't had a chance to get out to the coast to use it yet. Nice to get some validation for being talked into buying such a huge rod. Thanks again.
I used them alot in tx and La. Catch 20-30lb reds, and a 28lb black drum. Great casting range with a 8000-9000 series spinning reel.
That whip sound it makes when you cast it is so intense but it only really good for deep sea fishing probably.
Today i used my 3.50 metres and it mades me feel tired . Also you have to read the lures weight required .
was pretty funny when u said that with a longer rod your able to hit the spot lol .. I seen u laugh afterwards so it made it even funnier cuz it seemed like u didn't mean to say that haha ..
Bruh! I already use long rod i love it and iam 14 and love fishin and caught fishes around 20 kilos in kuwait
They also allow for use of lighter line. The rod will give in under tension much like the drag. They are used often for salmon and trout when they spawn up the rivers of the great lakes.

I love the sound of reeling in heavy braid.
That fish came in on Jet skis...😂😂 The casting distance is worth buying for the river 2 thumbs up 👍👍
Love your videos. Educational & not a lot of yelling. Just fishing
Your family looks like a lot of fun! They made me smile. Good stuff!
That made it look easy to real in, like it wasn’t even a struggle. Really interesting.
I have that same exact rod👏 Great vid man, I've always enjoyed your content!
You like the rod? What do you primarily use it for? Thanks for watching!
I use it out here in Southern California for mostly any kind of fish but every once and awhile for catching some tiger sharks, I love the rod!
I used to have a 13-6 glass rod like that was too soft. I went to a 11-6 carbon rod with more backbone. I can toss 6 oz 100+ yards.
Nice that is a good bit of advice. This one was pretty floppy
Take it out and try different sinkers to find the optimal casting weight for the rod. Try clipped down pulley with circle hooks. Extra distance, self hooking and the sinker is kept up away from snags by the weight of the fish. Works well here in NZ for most species.
Cool video! I'd have to ditch the bell and go with a baitrunner. I like to pretend I'm Cptn Quint trying to land Jaws haha.
Great video! Great to see that the whole family is having fun, put a big smile on my face!!
7:40 "With this rod..I'm able to hit that spot" 😉😉😉😉😉
I know I am late, but I love the way you talk about saving fish and the environment. Great content!
Thank you for letting us know:)

I second the bait runner reels, it basically a double drag system, I have the Okuma reels and they feel great! And under $50
I just got a 13ft can't wait to get out their. Keep up the great vids. Keep the lines tight n I'll see ya on the Blue
I just got a 13 foot rod as well and just tried it for the first time! Landed a sting ray on it, absolutely love it
I always watch/enjoy your video!! WOULD YOU SHARE THE GPS COORDINATE for this spot? I live in Northern VA area and I'd love to come with my son!

ryea i use the same size for fishing for meter long spanish mackeral

Hey Skipper! Just ordered a 12 foot Daiwa Beef Stick. It will be here on Feb 9, 2021. Of course you know I had to pull up one of your videos to see how you handle your big boys. 👍🏾👍🏾
Love that whiping sound that a 12ft-15ft gives. Reel size should be at least 5000 or more. Longer rod with a correct techniques can cast even further
in UK its the norm to use 13 and a half to 14-foot multiplier and up to 16 fix spool rods so keep it up dude YOU HAVE THE POWER
In Portugal, 5m, 6m, 7m and 8 meter (26 feet 1/4") rods are used all the time for fishing on the rocky shore.
Enjoy.
What's up senko. I really like your videos they are really helpful. I recently just got back into fishing as well with my brothers after some years. 15 footer is very common at my country (Malaysia). Normally we use for beach surf casting. Some of friend use 18 footer rod.
First time hearing about the circle hook regulation/law. That’s ok cause I feel bad whenever I gut hooked a shaker. Cut the line and throw it back good luck little fella
Where is this spot at? I’m in MD too. I’m going to visit Chaptico Pier on Sunday I’ve hear that they have huge Saltwater Catfish!!
Great Video by the way

Looks like Elk Neck State park in Md. Thanks for the fun and informative video! Grear day with the family, and love the Hammock! Cv
Me&wifey say man you are a good man to get your whole family out with y'all its a beautiful day yes it is thanks for the video guys
I'm building a long rod to dip live bait into weed beds for Bass from the bank. The big ones won't hardly bite a lure as they get too much fishing pressure, but they'll bite a live sunfish or frog, etc.
Taylor franklin
You use the bigger rod to launch the bait past the breakers, also it helps to keep the line clear of the water when theres tons of kelp adrift. Keeping that line above the first breaker can be the key to not catch kelp all day/night
I am trying to work as much of your video as possible I am going to surf fishing tomorrow
Senko, make a Texas trip and I can hook you up with some big largemouth bass!
I Had to subscribe because of the Texas Mention😁
MAN!! I'm glad I randomly found another one of your videos. I thought I had subbed after that Dock Demon episode but I went looking and.. nothing. All good now though. Also for the record I use a dock demon deluxe all the time just to "test the waters" before bringing out my real gear if the bites on. I have it spooled with 20 pound braid, lol.
i have one from okuma, when i first started surf fishing!
Probably the perfect rod for beach fishing 🎣 do you have a beach near you?
You can tell you all have fun.so cool man.Good fishing!
Whats the Name of the rod and brand please
U ever hear of the Yuki saiko A3 plus. Same length but skinnier.there called continental rods I think.
I just bought my first rod ever and tomorrow will be the first time fishing for me I am excited
That spot reminds me of when my dad would take me to Croton Point Park.
Salted bloodworms......🤔 you might be on to something lol!
decided that i want to cast out much farther at my usual spot so i just bought a Okuma Tundra TU-150 3 piece 15' medium/heavy rod and put my diawa df100a(10,000 size) with 100lb braid on it. looking forward to catching some giant catfish.
I own an Ugly stik Big water 11' rod paired with an Ugly stik Ugly tuff 60 reel, works great on small sharks when surf fishing.
Larry
So you don’t think they’re of any advantage? Interesting! I love hearing your perspective! Thanks Larry 👍🏼
Like the new long rod. Would like to see it perform on the beach. Also do more catch and cook. Love those videos and learning new ways to cook fish.
I have two 21 ft and one 18 the are grate and the best to see if the is a fish hold the line is more sensitive to fish biting.
Without watching the video I would guess that it would give you more leverage to get your lure farther and it would give you more height to get over the waves as they roll in
It would definitely be good on the beach!
Nice.. greetings from Bali.. in here bloodworm are cheap and easy to find, i’m usually use that for bait

Not enough Sam "Senko" (Sam Senko?) footage.
God damn first time i ever saw that holy shit, WTF you catch with that whales ?
