Richard game you have became my mentor I watch as many of videos as I can I'm becoming a better fisherman watching you thank you very much I am a disabled marine and I love to see you fish
Richard, this is Greg from Huntsville. I sure do love your videos. You have taught me so much over the last few years. Thank you Sir, I appreciate everything you do.
Absolutely love your old school, simple, and budget friendly fishing techniques. You remind me a lot of an old Christian man that used to take me fishing and taught me a lot of the same techniques you use. He still uses an old Mitchell 300 just like you have in this vid too. May God bless you Fishing machine and hope you are able to continue sharing your knowledge and good hearted nature for many years.
Richard I am disabled and in a Nursing Home. I absolutely love to watch a video from you. I miss my fishing here in the Lake Murray, SC area. I miss so much getting outside and doing some fishing & hunting. Keep up the Video’s and tell Elmo I miss meeting him. Andy
I’m 60 and my Dad used a Mitchell 300 he loved it I don’t know how old it is but my older brother still has it today, I really enjoy your videos Richard you’re second to none.
Gene I've been watching you for 2 years almost . I've literally watched every single one you have put out. Some of them I several times. Your pure gold man . And appreciate you more than you'll ever know
So knowledgable about not just fishing, but about so much of your equipment. You got me into buying vintage stuff and trying. Super fun to use the older stuff! Thanks Mr. Gene.
I've been watching for a couple years now and you're one of my favorite channels and personalities on RUclips. I've learned a lot from you and picked up tons of useful tips from your videos.. plus I'm from NW Georgia and have not only fished in a good many of the same places as yourself, but I've picked up some spots from you along the way.. whether you realized you were giving them away or not lol. I just have to say, though.. I've seen people give you tons of praise and leave you heartfelt messages and some other people ask you some pretty simple questions. I know if you get the same question enough you will make a video answering it, but it's been a very long time since I've seen you reply to anyone's comments directly or interact with your audience very much on a personal level. Unless I am missing them, I usually always browse the comments of your videos and never see you down there interacting with anyone. I know your channel has grown and you get way more comments than you can realistically reply to, but it just doesn't seem like you reply to anyone at all. It's just surprising to me considering you are such a seemingly friendly and outgoing guy. And I don't say any of that like I am trying to tell you how to run your channel since you know what you're doing, I only wonder why you don't interact with people more often and embrace the community you've created in a more personal way. People already love you, but if you went out of your way a little and reached out to the people in the comments, they'd love you even more. Being accessible goes a long way. I'm sure you probably won't even read any of this, and I am obviously not expecting a reply.. but regardless, thank you for doing what you do and taking the time to upload these videos and sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. As long as you keep it up, I'll keep watching. Take care.
Biggest channel cat I ever caught, I caught with an ultra-light and 2 pound test line while bait fishing. That was fun! I would never have been able to land it had I been on the bank. The line would have broken. As it was it was all I could do to keep it from breaking my rod on the side of the boat. Ahhh memories....
Mr. Gene! Long time subscriber, and love what you got going on with your channel. You and the NDyak Angler inspired me to start fishing as an adult. After sorting through all the tiny cats, I finally landed me a 30'' channel cat on the Red River of the North. Thanks for the tips!
Great channel by a great sportsman! Thanks fo all the tips and help as I try to learn to crappie fish on the river after years of bass fishing lakes. I’m actually starting to get bites thanks to you.
My name is Charles Thomas and l am from Chicago, Illinois and just want to say that I love your fishing videos on RUclips I have watched just two so far and look forward to watching more. You are a very good person to follow on how to catch fish. Thank you for your techniques.
RICHARD GENE I LIKE THE NO WEIGHT METHOD; I LOST A BOTTOM WEIGHT ONCE AND JUST REMEMBERED THATS WHEN I WAS CATCHING 2LB CHANNEL CATS ON DEEP FORK RIVER HERE IN OKLAHOMA CITY AREA. CAUGHT A FEW IN THE TWO TO THREE LB RSNGE AND SOME MISSISSIPPI WHITES TOO ( PRETTY CATFISH )
Richard Gene The Fishing Machine!!! Man you have taught me alot about fishing techniques Your tips have made catch a lot more fish. I love your slip bobber set up for Crappie and Small Mouth. Here in Knoxville TN.. Thanks, Jeremiah
“There’s nothing wrong with that fish...sept for he’s got a hook in his mouth and I gotta get it out.” 😂 You’re the Best RGFM! Tell mama Sue Howdy. God Bless y’all. 🎣❤️✌️
Hey Mr Gene From welch west virgini! Loved this video, as I am a bank fisherman right on a nice medium sized river that is a tributary to the Ohio called the new. I also fish with worms. Infact this summer which was my first summer on this river, I moved with my girlfriend right near the famous new river gorge national park area. From late may to end of June those channels have lock jaw and become scarce , however the flat heads keep me company. This river has just as many or more flats than channels. But like I was saying I caught every catfish I bait fished with this past summer on night crawlers. I tried everything under the sun. From craw dads helgrimites caltopa worms to chicken liver hot dog weenies, hell I even bought that store bought blood Bait that looks like deer poop and makes your hands stink for 3 days and isn't worth a plug nickel. The ole night crawler after a rain or earth worm under a board has never failed me. Have you ever guided ? If not have you considered it? And how about maybe this summer if you would like we could get together down on Guntersville which I've heard a lot about from people I've fished at her cousins house. That big pond Kentucky lake has been good to me over the years. But yes a lot of anglers has told me if I liked Kentucky lake I needed to fish it's sister Dale hollow and its cousin Guntersville. Message me back maybe we can get together and do it sometime. Love hybrid fishing , crappie , red ear and of course catfishing
Enjoyed your video about catching catfish! One of my favorite fish to catch! Keep up the good work Richard Gene the fishing machine! Wooo, I’m talking about wooo!!!
Sometimes Richard you just gotta bite those ole channels back when they bite first! Always enjoy watching your fishing trips Sir and hope you never stop!
Also iv collected a bunch of the old Mitchell 300,324,308,and 310 reels but I haven't fished with one yet but after watching this video im gonna try it! I do have a vintage Olympic spinning reel of the same era that I serviced and it works like new I have used that reel its more of an ultralight reel but I took it creek fishing the other day and it worked flawlessly and was a blast catching fish on it!! I love the vintage reels !!👍👍👍
Your the man, dont like ya turning them fish loose but I can live with it. I'd love to come fish with ya, know it'll never happen, but I'd love it. Your a character, your a fine man.
Richard, I'm so glad a friend sent me one of your videos! I'm slowly watching them all. You are the best that I've found on the internet, by far! I've been fishing 35+ years and I'm still learning so much about fishing from you that I can't retain it all, but I'll try it all out little by little. Yours is the only channel I've subscribed to, besides my kids. Speaking of my kids, I've got them both fishing, and they both watch your channel. They run around the house saying "WOOOOOOOOO!!" all the time now. I feel like I know you, and I wish I lived near enough to go fishing with you. It seems a little strange for me to be writing this comment, but it is all true. Thanks for making this channel, and keep it up, friend!
Lived in fort Payne when I was growing up and use to drive down to the Tennessee river to catfish.....never had no luck but I has no clue what I was doing. Wish I lived down there now
When I was a kid, we backpacked into a high mountain lake 10,000ft or so. We fished for two days without a bite. Trial and error led us to: chartreuse powerbait and two salmon eggs on a treble hook. That's the only thing they would hit, and we caught dozens! Fishings funny that way
I really watch a lot of your crappie videos, but this was my favorite video yet , the package deal RG ! I always want to go out and catch whatever your catching . I m fortunate to live near 2 rivers Delaware and Neversink rivers and a handful of reservoirs. Thanks for the laughs and knowledge .
Mr. Gene, I just moved to Alabama, and I am learning how to fish with my 7 year old son. Thank you for these videos!! Question: are the fish in lake Guntersville safe to eat? Someone told me they weren’t healthy
Hi there. I still use the Mitchell 300s and the 410 in the UK and apart from rotating the opposite way to normal fixed spool reels they still perform faultlessly . As for the worms ,I still use them (not for cats, but for Perch and Pike)yes the Pike eat bunches them when you cant get them on conventional baits it must be something about them wriggling or something on a big single hook .I find the best way to keep them O.K is to keep them in wet screwed up newspaper and lichen from the garden (which is too damp really ) but it's ideal for the worms. I love the videos man. Keep em commin .
Mr.Richard Gene i would love to come and spend about a week with u and learn where to fish on the lake u just seem like u would be a good person to meet to know and hang out with keep up the good work and making videos
My uncle still uses his mitchell. It still works like a dream they sure don't make em like th st any more. Reels really 70 years old. Nothen better than popping a coke open grabbing dome squirmies and fishing fir a few kitties. The blues near me have been running. Got a 20+ blue yesterday on cut shad. I usually use worm but they've been finicky recently. I'll take flatties That size all day. Fish on!👌👍😊
I love my vintage Garcia and Mitchell reels. I paired my Garcia with a vintage Eagle Claw Trail Master 4 piece ultra light. Both were pawn shop finds. Have caught so many big fish on that set up
I have been fishing since I was really young and when I was only 5 years old I caught a 5 pound channel catfish and I am 28 years old now and my set up I currently use is a medium heavy zebco 808 spincast rod and reel combo with 20 pound test Cajun line, snapshot weights, a 1/0 lazer sharp eagle claw circle snell hook, and a float. And I find that to be a good universal setup for catfish, walleye, bass, and smaller saltwater species like striper and snapper and I have caught all those species on it personally so I am very happy with that setup currently I do want to get a heavier setup for white sturgeon and muskies though at some point.
Richard that was another great video. All your videos are great but I like watching your videos when you use natural bait. That's the way I fish a lot. I'm just an old country boy from West Liberty Kentucky and we're only as old as we want to be is the way I look at it. One more keep the videos coming because it's gooood for ya and us too!
I live near grand rapids Michigan and I am a dedicated fisher but my favorite is catfish channel or flats I manly fish the grand river.. But I would love to come whenever you are to land some of those monsters you be getting.. I enjoy the show thanks for sharing
Me and my dad and sometimes my mom and my brother all love to watch you when my brother comes to visit we all chuckle when you say “wooooo wooooo wooooo wooooo wooooo woooooooooooooooooo” :)
When the day comes, that one of them birds hits you on the back of the head, with on of them, 'white clouds,' you're gonna hear that bird go, "Wooooo!" As for that guy down the bank from you, 'yes,' you're crazy. But at our age, we all seem to get that way. Life has a way of twisting us all up, so that by the time you get some age, you can't help but be a bit, "off center of the bubble!" Momma Sue ain't mean, she's just got you under control!
I saw those red Chuck Taylor's u got on RGTFM and not only r u 1 hell of a good fisherman but u got style too. I had me a few pair of CT back in the day but man the bottoms of my feet would hurt like hell cause there was just not enough support in them shoes. Great video as always and stay safe
The country needs more Richard Gene. His enthusiasm is addicting in a good way.
Keep up the great work !
Mr. Gene , you make me smile every time

I love my vintage Garcia and Mitchell reels. I paired my Garcia with a vintage Eagle Claw Trail Master 4 piece ultra light. Both were pawn shop finds. Have caught so many big fish on that set up
Love these videos. Catfish are my favorite to catch. Got a couple nice channels yesterday, one of them's in my freezer! Need to look up recipes...

As for that guy down the bank from you, 'yes,' you're crazy. But at our age, we all seem to get that way. Life has a way of twisting us all up, so that by the time you get some age, you can't help but be a bit, "off center of the bubble!"
