  • It shakes you around almost as much as the rattler on the tail of a diamondback & the way the track sways with the coaster as it goes zooming by is sure to give you a fright, but don't worry because this woodie doesn't bite. On July 9th, the park announced that the Rattler will close on Augsut 5th 2012.
    Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located in San Antonio, Texas.

    man none of y'all know what it was like to ride that thing in year 1, before they put the breaks in. 27 people were injured that year. single scariest experience of my life.

    • @coasterpug2616
      @coasterpug2616 7 лет назад +21

      I rode it the first year when they had to run the "coffin car" trains to keep from giving people whiplash. I almost never rode it again. It became tolerable after they shortened the first drop, but it got slower and more boring with every new adjustment (they seemed to reprofile it almost annually, like they were desperately trying to make it something people would ride more than once per visit). I have mixed feelings about these RMC conversions (I love the style, just wish they would build original rides instead of redoing old ones), but in this case its the best thing they ever did.

    • @DavidIrvin
      @DavidIrvin 7 лет назад +7

      Coaster Pug most of the time a thrill ride is completely safe, rattler year 1 was not even close to safe. that's why you and I never wanted to ride it again. it was literally dangerous to do it, and painful. if that's a "bad" rollercoaster then what the hell are rollercoasters for?

    • @coasterpug2616
      @coasterpug2616 7 лет назад +8

      Oh I agree, Rattler year 1 was beyond bad, it was just plain dangerous. It was the Crystal Beach Cyclone of the 1990's. And although the park did succeed in making it safe, they never succeeded at making it enjoyable, just tolerable. Fiesta Texas was my home park for many years and I would always ride the Rattler once just for the sake of riding a woodie, but between the basic flaws in its design and the steps they had to take to counter them, it just never lived up to its potential. It got slower every year and the few thrilling moments barely made the rest worth the trouble.

    My old man helped put that thing together a long long time ago, hes told me story's about the construction workers being terrified to ride it right after construction was complete with the original drop, apparently after some test runs with sandbags shortly after construction (some of which didn't quiet make the journey back to the station.) a group of workers were offered $100 dollars to ride it and only 2 took up the challenge. They must've gotten the ride of a lifetime on that deathtrap, lol

      I rode it in 94 after it had apparently been neutered. I am here to tell you this video doesn’t do it justice. On wood, that first drop was like staring into the abyss. I’ve been on many much more ‘extreme’ rollercoasters, but this ride felt like it was coming apart at the seams, it was wild, absolutely wild.

  • @DCFCfanatic

    Oh god. I remember riding this when it was brand new. No breaks. It still had the original drop. Holy crap! I came out of the ride injured. on one of the turns, facing the park where you can see the water ride down below, I was slammed against the inside of the coaster hard. I had a huge bruise on my right arm/elbow area. nothing was broken but the pain was with me at least a week or so.

      Oh God! I'm so sorry! I actually found a 1998 recording of the ride and I couldn't tell if the shaking of the camera back then was either it being rough or if the person the camera holding was having a hard time gripping onto it due to how big some of those cameras were. From what you are saying, though, this ride has always been rough until the day it was closed?

    ive ridden the old style I've ridden the new style. OLd style-the most shakey side smaking experience of a wooden coaster and I rode it the first year it opened. Over the years it got even more side smacking, making it one youd more likely pass by or say Ok i'll do it once since were here. im a san antonioian so I grew with the rattler and loved it but not gonna lie about how Jarring it was. New Style- it is shorter by far due to the 90% plus reconstruction but HOLY WOW! this is THE BEST most smoothest ride ive ever been on .first timers MUST GO front seat ,the Overhang is rediculous . thrills the whole 1:27 sec your on it . 10 out of 10 in my book . it sold me on a pass and now can say I'm up to 12 rides so far. i'm going for the 100. if you go to fiesta texas make THIS your FIRST MUST RIDE.

    Even into the late 90s there were issues. They had a crappy seatbelt and one generic lap bar to secure you down. I went with my friend when I was 13 who was very heavyset and so I had almost nothing to keep me from sliding around and had the feeling of slipping out of the seat at times. I held onto that bar for dear life. I wouldn't go near it after that and had dreams of sliding out during the drop and falling down alot after that. Not to mention how it shook your bones. Never went on it again. My family and friends loved it though. I prefer the Poltergeist.

    2:14 Is that pole-structure thing supposed to be an on-ride photo section?

    • @ryanthemepark
      @ryanthemepark 3 года назад +1

      No.
      Its a surveillance camera. Its position at a block break- a section where the train can come to a complete stop if needed.

      They did have a photo taken during one of the drops as I still have the photo from when my son rode it the only time. When you exit the current ride it’s through the gift shop and the photos were displayed on a bank of screens where it’s now a blank wall.

    If RCCA could build coasters, this prolly would’ve been one of the best and intense woodies out there. But with how rough it was, that’s not the case

    when i was asked if i wanted to go in this ride i said no, i was too scared to ride it since my friends had said to me that it was a very scary experience. my parents went in with my big sister and they all came out pale. my mother said she was thankful the ride didn't break or something, my dad said the security was horrible. (one single iron bar that "secures" you) and my sister was just speechless. it was the scariest ride of their lives and not in a good way. they'll never go on it again and i don't plan to either.

    How come rcdb says the original rattler had 1 inversion

    • @johnbrooks715
      @johnbrooks715 9 лет назад +1

      I believe it was a data entry error or mistake. The original Rattler never had an inversion. I think the information on RCDB for the Rattler was last updated when Iron Rattler was released, so maybe Duane Marden (the owner of RCDB) originally thought that Six Flags Fiesta Texas was going to add an inversion to the existing coaster but then realized it was going to be a completely new coaster while relying on some of the previous track design so, he created a new entry for Iron Rattler and never fixed the entry for Rattler. That's just an assumption I have concluded to. Also Iron Rattler is much shorter than The Rattler. :-)

    I think i was 9 years old when my family first went to fiesta texas. They tricked me into getting on it. I was sitting with my mom. She literally had to hold me down by my pants because i was flying out of the seat. The bar didnt even touch me. No seat belts whatsoever. My sister almost flew out that. Craziest damn experience i ever had. Thought i was gun a die. Lol 😅

    I really wished they kept at least some of the old helix, I'd love to have seen some over-banked curves in those bunny hops that were in the old helix and then straight into the hill. BUT, I'm excited for what is there.
