my lord, I've never heard as many rude whiners in comment land! And if anyone knew what these two have lived through, they might be a tad more intelligent, or at least informed in their comments. These guys are "soldiers", smart & way generous in their service to others..

Dr Richard Miller does a presentation on coronary disease reversal using Natto, D & K, fish oil etc (Silicon Valley Institute video). Essentially intermittent fasting is used at night & you take Natto on an empty stomch & let it go to work opening up all the inflammation spots where the body used calcium & cholesterol to trap toxins etc that could be dangerous if they were allowed to circulate further.. K is used to shuttle the calcium back into the bones, fasting cleans up the inflammation & fish oils (preferably from the fish) go to work to sooth & heal the arteries. I'm sure he included collagen in the diet to build flexibility and vasodilation properties back into the arteries. Something people are not getting from their processed foods diets of pizza, spaghetti & McDonald's.

ive heard doctors saying that if you are overweight/obese that you should NOT take K2 because being overweight somehow causes your plaque to destabilize when you take K2? is this true? im asking because im well over weight and taking D3 as a precaution for covid and i keep getting told to never take D3 without K2

Um, when you're talking about mcg vs. mg, I believe the studies using mcg vs. the studies using mg were using two different types of K2. Mcg is usually Mk-7 and mg is usually referring to Mk-4. Mk-7 lasts in the body a lot longer then Mk-4. Can you clarify and confirm this please.

Good stuff but the high dose osteoporosis studies (30:49) use the MK-4 form of K2, not MK-7. And is not difficult at all to get MK-4 in multi-mg dosages, that is how it usually comes from multiple sources (the mentioned Thorne brand is probably the cheapest per mg). For therapeutic purposes, MK-4 is usually taken at 1.5 to 45mg in clinical studies and MK-7 at around 90 to 360 mcg. As Chris correctly pointed out, maintenance doses more in line with levels that could be obtained via food are much lower and still have a preventive effect for heart disease related problems (at least in long term observational population studies of healthy subjects like the referenced Rotterdam study).

You need both MK4 and MK7. They activate different proteins and thus has different health benefits. Check out Life Extension's "Super K". It contains K1, K2-MK4 and K2-MK7. Its quite good.
Of course, if you eat a lot or MK4 and little MK7 (or vice versa), the body will convert more K1 into K2-MK4 and less K2-MK7 (and vice versa). Your body is extremely flexible and adaptive!

In cheese it isn't as important to be grass fed because it's the bacteria that creates the K2 more than the conversion of K1 in the grass to K2.

I can attest to royal blend being effective, after learning about it from Ramiel Nagel's cure tooth decay - but that's part of his whole protocol not just that alone, the protocol is all dietary based with animal organs and full fat dairy. But I have no idea how much it has in it, it'd be interesting to see an average range(the amounts fluctuate). Also, Weston A Price puts out a very convincing case for using HVBO+FCLO in his book, so I'm pretty sold on the royal blend - also tossing in some skate liver oil extract from green pastures seems like a good idea(: Ramiel suggests 1/8ml with 1/2 teaspoon of the royal blend with most of your meals to heal tooth decay - would give you a huge bang of A/food based full spectrum D and some K2 synergy + quite a few other beneficial things.

Tx Chris ... have to check some facts as I thought that our gut microbiota made enough K2, assuming it is healthy, K1 ++ from greens, skin for D, so I think working on gut should produce better results and NO carbs. ref Dr. Tim Noakes ...

As far as the consumption of hard cheeses to increase k2, are you referring to cheese from cows that are grass fed?

    • @ckgapps
      @ckgapps 9 лет назад

Aaron Winter Grass-fed cheese will certainly have higher levels, as the animals are converting K1 to K2 and grass is where they get the K1.

Mr. Kressler, you present yourself as an intelligent man, although slightly arrogant. Your dosages in the Rotterdam study are totally off, sorry. I would like to hear your credentials as I do listen often. As I recall, and I will verify, the highest dosage of K2 was approx. 316 mcg and the lowest was .45. ng/ml. Very confusing. The numbers you have stated for it seem off.
From the Rotterdam study Double check: Vitamin K absence-II (PIVKA-II) were elevated in 121 (64%) of the patients (median, 2.98; range, 0.45 to 318 ng/ml),placebo group received no extra K2.
OK, I was off by 2 on the top number and it was ng/ml. You would divide by .40 to get your numbers to get nanamols. Whatever, I am just sure those numbers you stated were off for the Rotterdam study..
Japanese studies 45 miligrams you state, so please keep your units consistent. The US should join the rest of the world and make things easier for all of us. Regards.

juie anderson The dosages I referred to were from osteoporosis studies that used K2, as I said in the show. For example, this study used a dose of 45 mg (not mcg) over 3 years. The Rotterdam study didn't involve "dosages", as it wasn't a prospective, observational study rather than a clinical intervention. It is true that the levels of intake in the Rotterdam study were between 45-360 mcg, because those are the doses that are obtainable from food. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1915640/

Chris Kresser My goodness, I just got back from Pubmed. Now I am impressed. Thank you, I like the fact that you are a true learner and you digest information quite quickly, as I do by the way. Thank you, and whatever your qualifications, you are surely smarter than my doctor!!!
I must check your first sentence above. I read the study and listened to several talk about it. "The Rotterdam study didn't involve "dosages" as it wasn't (do you mean was?) a prospective observational study....?? rather than a clinical intervention. (I do understand that the amt. of K2 derived was from food) Why would "food" be used if this was not a clinicasl intervention? It is mentioned all over the web.

Chris Kresser The Rotterdam Study is a prospective cohort study ongoing since 1990 in the city of Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The study targets cardiovascular, endocrine, hepatic, neurological, ophthalmic,
psychiatric, dermatological, oncological, and respiratory diseases. As
of 2008, 14,926 subjects aged 45 years or over comprise the Rotterdam
Study cohort. The findings of the Rotterdam Study have been presented in
over a 1,000 research articles and reports THIS study is not over yet and will take another two years to complete.
