My dad was a controller at Filton for 37 years his most proudest moment was following concord for this flight ( he is driving the Landrover) on the apron in the film...! R.i.P Whiskey. gulf. Foxtrot...! xx
will fountain hi will,in the film some people set in Bristol Kenneth moor‘s part was a controller at the then Bristol aircraft factory was your dad in that film ,they are testing the 188 in the scene
In My opinion, It was the best Aircraft of its time.
Nothing comes close to her speed, beauty and power.
During the sixties I used to live in Patchway very close to Filton aerodrome and as a plane mad kid I used to think Vulcan flying test beds passing over our school during lunchtime were a wonderful treat. They also had couple of Lightnings break the speed of sound over the Filton area during school time to see what effect it had. You could never call the sixties boring
What a beauty!!!
50 years ago, today.
Yet mankind is stuck 500 years in the past.
The Golden Era of Aviation is GONE..... (((
I was there for this. I was working at Filton and there had been many prior rumours that 002 was to fly. Eventually management said “Go back to work and we’ll tell you when the maiden flight is to be”. True to their word, the announcement came and nearly every worker left their workplace to watch. Noisy?? Yes, Smokey? Yes. But so exciting
What a special memory!
Salu Brian, wherever you are
John Cochrane was my full cousin but I never met him.
Straight and level, Gramps
