Good video, but I'd like to point out a few things - Kirkland's synthetic is NOT an appropriate swap for a Euro-aligned oil. Not sure how you extrapolated that from your screen shot, but I guess if you need to convince yourself of something then go for it. Personally I think 15 years later (from 2009, when the car was built to today, 2024) modern motor oil has made some incredible progress so as long as you're not racing that bug, you are probably ok. As far as the plug, I installed an EZ oil drain valve, cold welded it to the pan, and I'll never have a stripped plug ever again. Use it on all my cars, highly recommended. Lastly, never understood taking a clean new oil filter and jamming it into a filthy grimy grit-filled filter housing. Consider spraying that thing out with some brake/parts cleaner. Thanks for making this video.
So I didn’t see this comment until just now, great detail and I appreciate all the info you dropped! I shall look into a Euro-aligned oil for my next oil change. Thankfully I do not race my Beetle and the Kirkland synthetic seems to have the engine running fairly smoothly (no difference compared to the few hundred miles I put on the car before changing the oil). The EZ drain oil valve you have sounds cool, post a video! I am happy with my new drain plug from Volkswagen since it was only $6!
@@niaralosusa "cold weld" means a JB weld, not hot weld, but I would hot weld it if I knew how to weld. In addition, the filter housing is where all of the garbage is filtered out. I offer this, just once trying spraying out the housing during an oil change and see how much shit comes out. It's like taking a shower and putting week-worn underwear on.

Synthetic oil is fine.
I would never weld anything to an oil pan.
The filter will remove grime and particles…that’s what filters are designed to do.
