What an episode! This is easily one of my favorite channels about board games.
Really like the taste of the lists, you guys got a few similar choices but yet a good variety of the others. I think the choices from you three gentlemen kind of compliment each other very nicely.
I am a little surprised that War Of The Ring made it on Jeremy's list (though I watched your CE component review and it's incredible), as well as Troyes is on the top. I am going to share this episode to my group of fellow gamers. Well done and look forward to your next show!

I think that I'm a blend of everyone. Great Top 10 lists! Thank you for the video - great production, pictures and discussion. There seemed to be a number of "newer" games on your lists but it makes sense because with the advances made in gaming, its really hard for those older games to really stick around.

  • @JeremySkrdla

Loved the list. Orleans and Five Tribes are definitely high on my wishlist. I definitely fall more in line with David's top 10 (we have 4 in common), but I enjoy games from all your lists. Thanks for the variety! I'd love to see you do this as an annual list just to see how things change.

Thank you SO much for sharing your Top 10 lists! I am always keeping my eye out for games to learn more about. I will have to look into some of these like Troyes, A Feast For Odin, and Tzolk'in.
Great to hear all the positive reviews on Orleans. My boyfriend and I added it to our collection a few months ago, but have yet to play it.
Keep up the awesome videos! : )

I love the professionalism, the set, and getting to see your top 10. Good insights into what each of you like. Gave me a boost on some that i have been considering but dont own, like Russian Railroads, Great Western Trail, Marco Polo, Terraforming Mars, and Blood Rage!

  • @trevinsky01

Great episode guys! I like a little bit of everything (co-op, worker placement, miniatures, party, etc.) so Gary gets my vote. I might swap Rococo for Grand Austria Hotel and Star Wars: Rebellion for Blood Rage, but otherwise I love all the games on his list. Also, honorable mention to Istanbul, which seems to get to the table a lot with my kids and novice gamer friends and still keeps me engaged.

Great lists fellas! I'm most like Jeremy, but I definitely enjoy quite a few of the games on Gary and David's lists as well. I just played Troyes pretty recently, and I do think it's a great game. Same with Great Western Trail. Though my favorite game of the ones you guys have listed is for sure A Feast for Odin. I've played this so many times solo, more than almost any other game in the last year. Anyway, excellent video! Really having been enjoying this channel.

Recently started to really get into boardgaming, so this list is limited in that I haven't played a lot of different games and some of these I've only played once or twice, but I know I'll play them more in the coming months.
    Top 10:
    1. Lords of Waterdeep - Really like the flow of this game, especially at 3 players. I think the theme fits, though it could be better. Wouldn't play it with both expansions if you're + players.
    2. Codenames - I played this SO MUCH a couple of years ago with my study group. It's been a while since I played it last, but I would almost always be up for a couple of rounds.
    3. Pandemic - One of the games that got me into the hobby and the one that made me realize you could boardgame cooperatively. Lovely game, great lenght and easy to teach.
    4. Kindgomino - I love this game, such a nice little gem. Love the look and the simplicity. I recently got Queendomino, but haven't tried it yet.
    5. Mansions of Madness 2d Edition - What a wonderful game, my only major gripe is the quality of the minis. Maybe also the price.
    6. Carcasonne - The game that got me into the hobby. There are probably better games out there, but it's important to me.
    7. Isle of Skye - I've been there on a trip, so I immediately bought this when I got back. Beautiful place and the game is luckily great.
    8. One Night Ultimate Werewolf - A bit tired of this, but probably the game I've played the most, so it belongs on the list.
    9. Architects of the West Kingdom - Only played this once, but I really, really enjoyed it. I'm pretty certain it'l move up the list.
    10. King of New York - Such a great filler that is just plain fun. I've got a couple of the extra monsters and the evolution cards and they make it even better.
Other games that I really enjoy: Mysterium, Citadels, Werewords, Terraforming Mars (probably gonna make the list with more plays)

Great video. This is quickly becoming my go to channel for my board game fix. I like seeing how many games I own off each list. I own 21 of the I believe 26 different games mentioned. And hope to soon add Great Western Trail , Terraforming Mars and Feast for Odin. Thanks guys for the video and great lists.

Nice lists, I just got Blood Rage so i do hope to enjoy it as much as Gary! I love 5 tribes, 7 Wonders and Santorini as far as games that made the list. Awesome video, plenty of games to look at now.

What a refreshing top-ten, awesome production quality aside (love the full screen montage of the game being discussed), I really like the casual conversation format you guys have brought to the table. Thank you! :)
Also, so so thrilled to see 7 Wonders Duel (+ Pantheon) get a mention, that little box packs quite a punch! Would just love to get my hands on Blood Rage some day, fascinating balance of so many of my favourite mechanics.
P.S.: Just bought Adrenaline last week after watching your review. So excited!

I think I need to add Time's Up to my party games purchases. If you never turn a game down, that's a good choice for your top ten. I think of the three lists, I fall alongside Gary the most, even though David is the Carebear. I really need to get Troyes. Thanks for another great video guys.

  • @TroyRibao

  • @chadjacobson2679
    @chadjacobson2679 7 лет назад +1

Great work, guys. I think this might be my favorite top ten list. Though I'd say a mash up of all of them is more in line with my tastes including: Terra Mystica, Nations, Great Western Trail, Grand Austria Hotel, Voyages of Marco Polo, Orleans and Castles of Burgundy. I ended up trading War of the Ring for Dominant Species and some others because I'm not really a war gamer and the fiddly rule set was a deterrent when it only came out 1-2 times a year. I really need to play Feast For Odin though.

    • @chadjacobson2679
      @chadjacobson2679 7 лет назад

Man Vs Meeple , haha no. Sorry to make you sad though. Thanks again for all your great content! I've actually watched your Feudum video a few times because I'm considering late backing. I don't kick start much because I've been burned. I was surprised Rahdo never did a run through. David is the resident Care Bear. Do you know if he found Feudum mean? What might you compare it to weight-wise?

Up until now I'd say I was an irregular watcher of you guys. I was definitely aware of the channel and would see if you had a video of a game I was particularly interested in and watch that, but I really enjoyed this video and so you got one more subscriber.
Personally, Jeremy's list has the most games on it that I really enjoy, and also the most games I've never played at 4 (Gary and David only have two each I haven't played). Though none of you mentioned a single game in my top 10 (there are a lot of games out there these days). I guess maybe I lean slightly heavier than you guys? My top 15 or 20 games are made up entirely of What's Your Game? titles, Vital Lacerda games, Capstone reprints, Trajan, Brass, Mombasa, Bora Bora, Terra Mystica, and The Great Zimbabwe.

  • @filipapt1674

I just got Troyes, haven't played it yet but it was Jeremy who made me look closely to this game and go for it, your choices for games are similar to mine, I don't like luck driven games either, so I'm always more attentive to your preferences. Thanks for all the amazing content you put out, Man vs Meeple and Rahdo are my favorite reviewers so far, I might say.

Johathan, "sharing" Orleans with others is exactly one of the key reasons I like it so much. I'm convinced that it's one of the easiest games for people to pick up, and yet it has a good amount of depth.

Interesting list. Saw a few games on there that not many others talk about any more, or at all. Here's my current top 10 and would be interested in your thoughts.
    10 - Fortune & Glory
    9 - Clinic
    8 - Mechs vs Minions
    7 - Kanban
6 - War of the Ring
5 - Castles of Mad King Ludwig
4 - Arkham Horror the Card Game
    3 - Gloomhaven
2 - Caverna (haven't tried Feast for Odin yet)
1 - Lord of the Rings the Card Game

Lots of good stuff. David, you do need to play Terra Mystica. It has a ton to learn up front, but the experience is so rich and the replay value is off the charts. It's top 5 on BGG for good reasons.

  • @MW-jt3ds

Wow, such unique lists! As much as I hate the term "care bear", as I get more and more into gaming I realize that I am one. My favorite all-time would have to be Stone Age but I haven't had the opportunity to play many of the games that I would like to try. Orleans and Troyes both look awesome.

  • @LoremasterRyan
    @LoremasterRyan 7 лет назад +1

My tastes align somewhere between David and Jeremy, because I really don't enjoy luck driven outcomes. A little luck is okay, but when your whole strategy relies on hitting a lucky roll, I'm much less likely to enjoy it

  • @patrickweatherford8663

I've only played enough games to have 3 games I'd gladly place a top a list!
    1.Blood Rage

So I'm probably closest to Jeremy with that card drafting/worker placement combo?

I actually own Quarto!, sort of by accident as a Christmas gift. Great game. Lots of Euro on these lists but really want Gloomhaven. My top 10 for now:
    1. Blood Rage + 5th player, mystics
    2. Pandemic Legacy
    3. Evolution: climate
    4. Shadows over Camelot
    5. Dead of Winter
    6. Cosmic Encounter + incursion, dominion
    7. Captain Sonar
    8. TIME Stories
    9. Santorini
    10. Catan
    10.5 Codenames

I've played the most games personally from Jeremy's list and several that would be in my personal top 10 as well so I vote Jeremy! Sadly, my personal fave, Eclipse, didn't show up on anyone's list. Great video. Love the channel. I've been trying to decide for ages on a Civilization building game, and finally pulled the trigger on Civ: The Board Game after watching Jeremy's video. What are your thoughts on the expansions for that game?

This is my Top 10: (10) Shogun, (9) Firefly The Boardgame, (8) Stone Age, (7) Libertalia, (6) King of Tokyo. (5) 7Wonders, (4) Abyss, (3) Small World, (2) Lords of Waterdeep, (1) Talisman.

Tough for me to say which of these is closest to my own tastes; there isn't any overlap:
    1. Dungeon Twister 2: Prison
    2. Keyflower
    3. Race for the Galaxy
    4. Kanban: Automotive Revolution
    5. Small City
    6. The Colonists
    7. Food Chain Magnate
    8. Mythotopia (possibly getting bumped by A Handful of Stars in 2017)
    9. The Golden Ages
    10. Steam (possibly getting bumped by Tramways in 2017)
Enjoyment of worker placement and civ-building (though I prefer city/colony-building) probably puts me closest to Jeremy, but I'm much more interested in trying Orleans than Troyes. I've played Blood Rage and it is well-designed by not my type of game.

First of all a huge thank you for these wonderful lists! Those are absolutely some great games and each and one of them deserves a spot on a top 10 list! A lot of games correspond to my personal top 10, but that's also the reason why I am wondering...
...why there isn't any Vital Lacerda game on your lists as you all seem to like medium to heavy Euro games. In my humble opinion Vital has earned his spot as well with games like Vinhos, CO2, The Gallerist, Kanban and Lisboa. On my personal top10 The Gallerist can be found just above Terra Mystica, Pandemic Legacy, Tzolkin, Dead of Winter & Five Tribes!

Jeremy's list was the closest to mine. All great lists and I've been trying to remember what quarto is called since playing it once at a party 2 years ago so thanks for helping with that.

Great lists. For my play style preference I like Jeremy's list the most but if I compare my collection to the three lists I have the most from David's list. Maybe because at this time of my life I'm mostly interested in games to play with the family and non-gamer friends. I am surprised that Mech vs. Minions didn't make it on any list.

Mash up Gary and David's lists and you have most of my top 10.
    (12). 7 Wonders Duel
    (11). Voyages of Marco Polo
    10. Pandemic Legacy
    9. Scythe
    8. Five Tribes
    7. Clank!
    6. Patchwork
    5. Grand Austria Hotel
    4. Codenames
    3. Time's up: Title Recall
    2. Shakespeare
    1. Roll for the Galaxy
Out of curiosity, what Marco Polo characters don't you recommend at 2 players?

Gary's list has the most games I love but all of you have at least one game I'd put in my top 10. I can't pick which one of you has the best list, but I have come to the conclusion that you all have great taste.

Terra Mystica isn't an area control game, but is amazing. And does work two player sooo well if you simply have both players control two factions each.

To see with whom I would side with, I posed at 48'30 and looked at everyone's top 1. If your choice is a game I would love to play, have much respect for the design or the goals it achieves, you'd get a pass for the second round. But if on a row, there's a game that I despised, find some of the design horrible and/or broken, you get eliminated and we continue until there's only one standing. If 2 people are still standing at the end of 10 rounds, we tally up the points: who's got the best game on each row. Games I haven't played, I pick the next one on the list or substitute for a similar game I know of. Some fighters could run out of gas due to my ignorance, sounds fun? Are you READY TO RUMBLE?!
Rd1: Strong entries, sub BR for CitOW but Jeremy wins with the best dice placement game ever made.
Rd2: Best coop ever designed and Gary takes that round although my love's with Bruno.
Rd3: A draw between Feld and Rosenberg, Stockhausen looks up to titans and survive.
Rd4: BOOM! Bruno won't be denied and Jeremy's out with the worst moronic combat system ever thought.
Rd5: Only two fighters standing and while David looks at his toothless co-host, he drops his gloves with another asymmetric but now clearly broken player powers game and gets smacked by Gary with an "I hold yu sho, jat mekato hij boken!" from Jeremy who regained consciousness.
The "Time's up" underdog wins by KO on the fifth round. Congrats to Gary! :D

BAAHAHAHA...My sentiments exactly. Post of the Thread. Lock it up. :D
Not sure Jeremy and David will recover from my knockout list.

      Thanks for watching.

Is it OK if I give you my 1-6 instead? That was already tough enough, I wouldn't want for my beloved 5-10 to take the lime light of my 1-6 love crushes. Thx ;)
      Three kingdoms redux
Perfectly balanced asymmetric factions, asymmetric workers and infinite replayability emulating a lavishing theme with a bunch of mechanisms. Direct interactions and crushing decisions makes this the Targui of 3P games. Takes a whole evening but being already 3, you guys should definitely try it.
      Barbarossa
Often discarded as a sleazy dominion clone, Barbarossa offers as much depth as skin. Buying the most expensive card you can, playing all cards in hand and taking objectives as soon as possible isn’t part of a strategic Barbarossa game. You can keep a card to setup the next turn, play cards in front of you to setup future attacks and manipulate the luck of the draw in numerous fashion. For those saying that it's too long, don't forget that you can also cycle through objectives.
      Freedom
Every game of Freedom was epic in triumph or defeat and always by the skin of our teeth. We couldn’t say the same about Pandemic Legacy albeit, we had much regular Pandemics under our belt. I think the theme in this one shines even more and planning ahead is essential, claiming the crown of pure coops for me.
      Yunnan
Bought to have a mid weight game for tea loving friends without xp in modern boardgaming, we were amazed at its smooth intricacy. To be good at it, you got to weight your strategy against what you think other players will do and where the tax collector will go. You can raise stakes, setting everyone to bail out and exploit the bank, you can plan a long trip using shortcuts or settle early and put pressure on. Playing a turn here is like solving an interactive puzzle and like TRK, the comeback mechanism is flawlessly incorporated into turn order. Like SoC though, scaling could be a problem and I would not even suggest it for less than 4 players.
      Masquerade
Sorry but it just walks all over games like Werewolf, Resistance, Coup, Bang etc. without player elimination nor totally blind guessing so more tactical choices through that, traps and set-ups, bluffs and counter bluffs with much replayability, accessibility and excellent scaling.
      Shadows over Camelot (with Merlin)
A first crush when I knew almost nothing of modern boardgaming. Even now, it has not been overshadowed (pun) by newer DoW or BSG albeit; you’ve got to find the right number of players, traitors and optional rules to avoid it being stacked. For us, a fun and challenging game of Camelot is 4 Vs 1 with squire rule for a permanent layer of suspicion.
As you can see, I don’t have any problem fielding players at my gaming nights so scaling is not something I take much into account. Although I don’t like ameritrash, theme is still important to me and I like being immersed in my games. That explains why you don’t see masterpieces like Orleans, Five Tribes or any Feld games in this short list.

Thanks so much Bryce. As we put this video together, it was really hard to not want to set up and play so many of the games and play them immediately. Five Tribes in particular is SO easy to want to play when you have all those components in your hands with the box open in front of you.

I just have a hard time losing due to bad luck (ie. dice). Although there are some games that I love that suffer from this (Star Wars: Rebellion, I'm looking at you), they're the exception.

    Thanks guys! Great lists.
Thought David was my man on this show, but then he go all abstract 2-player on me... Bleh... :D
You all had games I love on your lists: Troyes (might get my own copy despite all my gaming groups having it), Marco Polo (yeah for player assymmetry), Orléans (pure bag-building fun), Terraforming Mars (engine building delight), Castles of Burgundy (maybe my number 1) and Isle of Skye (need to play this goodie more).
Have any of you ever played Hansa Teutonica? You seem to like the same kind of euros like me and Hansa Teutonica is sharing my favorite game ever status with Castles of Burgundy, so it might be something for you guys too.
Again, thanks for doing this. I have been among those asking for it, so it is very much appreciated.

  • @sergiortmarques

    Loved the video!
Would be interesting to have a similar list for expansions that brought a game to another level (a better one), maybe the base game was ok and got better, or the expansion is a must have because it fixes or solves some problems in the base game.
Following up on the above, I would like to know your thoughts on the expansion for Tzolk'in: Tribes & Prophecies: a lot has been said that with the base game people tend to use the same strategies over and over again, making less interesting and unpredictable. Do you see that as a problem in the base game and if yes, is that something the expansion solves?

I was actually surprised to see 5 Tribes on there not once, but twice! Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy it, but it's not in my top 10. Then again, I'm sure we have different tastes in games :) I think X-Wing is my #1 game, followed by Champions of Midgard. I love the dogfights in X-Wing, and the many ways I can build a squad and still do well no matter what squad my opponent brings to the table.
