ALSO, the Rugby World Cup is only every 4 years. Jonah played in the 95, and 99 RWCs. Making the Final in 95. The ABs got knocked out by France in the Semis in 99.
There are 2 Wingers on the team, Left & Right, Number 11 & 14. Generally they were the lightest and fastest players on the team (Running Back), 11 being the Left Wing. When Jonah arrived on the International scene in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, no one had ever seen anything about him before, he changed the whole dynamic of what physical attributes a winger should possess and how rugby should be played while dealing with a kidney disease Nephrotic Syndrome. He was the first Global Rugby Superstar and had the 11 etched into his left eyebrow. The song is called Champion by another Kiwi artist Scribe. Checkout his other songs - Dreaming, Not Many etc
U said it best JONAH was the GREATEST GAME period…..we are blessed to have witnessed such a gentle man become a MONSTROUS BEHEMOTH on field and light the RUGBY STAGE up like it’s never been lit before or after…. Only one JONAH = GOAT!!!!!
Thanks for this reaction, Jonah was an absolute beast. The song is Champion by Scribe, a New Zealand hip hop artist. Another great song by him was Not Many, the remix. If you want another amazing player to check out, watch some highlights of Christian Cullen. Cheers.
Most of the "tribute" is ripped from the TV documentary aired in NZ, YEARS ago.(hence the professional editing) the kid just put some extra music and captions over and called it a tribute.
In the highlights he's playing a lot of Rugby 7s. Rugby 7s has 7 players from each team on the field at a time. In 7s the number on their back doesn't really translate to their position. However, he's normally in the starting team for 7s, so his number is 7 or less. Normal Rugby has 15 players. His normal position in 15s is wing which is either 11 or 14. 11 being the left wing which he normally plays. If the number on his back is not 11 or 14, he's probably playing 7s. If his number is above 15, then he came on as a reserve. Interestingly you might sometimes see him with 6 on his back in a 15s aside game. Very early on at school and before he went pro his position was blindside flanker which is 6. (Unless you're from South Africa and 6 is openside flanker). There's a few great flankers from NZ that were fast, big and strong at 6. They were similar to Jonah such as Victor Vito and Ardie Savea, but they didn't have enough speed to be on the wing. In NZ I think the closes to Jonah is Manu Vatuvei. It's a different sport (Rugby League). But still he's a massive guy and fast enough to be on the wing. However, he's a bit lighter, shorter and probably didn't have the same speed or agility. Especially when Jonah was younger.
Savea is still going stong in the All Blacks .... He was captain in the All Blacks win over Australia 2 weeks ago where we ( New Zealand ) won the Rugby Championship between Australia, South Africa, and Argentina...
The ALL BLACKS are from New Zealand. The money is nice, but the Black Jersey is priceless. Kiwi's turn down million dollar off-shore offers just to be a part of All Black history. We're weird like that, but there's only 5 million of us, so don't be afraid... ...unless a rugby ball is involved. Then you should be terrified...
Japan has the best world cup Cinderella story bro. My greatest players of all time would have to be a combination of Christian cullin, buck shelford and collin meads. Nz all black all day
At the 1995 World Cup, even with Jonah there, the Springboks still won the Rugby World Cup. I was still young but once Jonah was neutralised, the game was pretty much a stalemate right until the end with zero tries scored in the final.
Thanks too the all blacks being poisoned with food poisoning 😂😂 only big thing that came from that World Cup was South Africa being caught out as actual cheats
Jonah Lomu is the G.O.A.T
My favorite quote is from one of his coach "Remember rugby is a team game, so all 14 of you pass the ball to Jonah"
On the paddock he is a monster, off it he is a gentle giant, a gentleman
Gentle Giant Indeed...miss you Johnah Arohanui.

Once the whistle blew for kick off. It was Jonah's 'egg' and he didn't like sharing 😂
GOAT this vid doesn't show how much of a walking highlight reel he was. So many great runs, try assists and unbelievable tries.
U said it best

Add Dan Carter to that list 😉
Awe Def is a Ginger I love it.💙💙
Jonah was scouted by Dallas Cowboys as a running back. Turned it down to play in the rugby World Cup.
Jonah definitely the GOAT…RIP
He ran 10.8 at high school, it was more like 10.5 by the time he was 20.
At that time, Rugby was an Amateur sport so no-one was "paid". Apparently Jonah turned down a $USD10m offer to play NFL

Jonah was never neutralised. There’s video footage of him running through 5 springboks and he carried one on his back.
He never won the World Cup… frankly he didn’t need to.
