The original Stage 3 turbo came with C4 Corvette brakes all around.. the original aussie brakes. They were spongy due to caliper flex but they hauled the car down (repeatedly) from ~174mph (with euro diff ratio) quite effectively. Fun fact: the Grey market cars had less top end but better grunt due to the a lower gearing (higher numerically) than the US cars...which were capable of ~185-190mph.
Thats a lot of work; great job keeping this piece of history in working order. 🙂 Did you do anything with the muffler? Many people remove the Dinan/stock muffler and toss it.. not realizing it is a beautiful piece of engineering. The stock muffler was cut open and completely reworked to accommodate the flow requirements for ~500hp. All the internals are completely replaced. The reason: that muffler housing is the absolutely largest volume muffler you can fit into the car; and so it enables the most flow and sound damping.
I really enjoyed the video. All those details count, and add up. Nice work, much respect! Any idea at what pressure the wastegate is set? These cars had a 10.5:1 CR so I wouldn't imagine it could reliably handle too much boost.
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it. The car has been a labor of love. To answer your questions, Steve Dinan lowered the C.R to 7.1: 1 to manage detonation at WOT. These cars were set-up to run 13-psi and produced 408hp. 1/4 mile times were low 13-sec. and 0-60 was 4.8-sec., I am running my car at 10-psi and will tune it based on that. My car is also running a slightly larger Turbonetics turbo vs the original Garrett T04B. More to come, please stay tuned and I hope you subscribed. Thanks!
@slownrusty can you tell me how to get in touch with you directly? I bought the 82 635CSi on BAT and would love to pointers to help me with a mechanical refresh. I’d like to put in new plugs, wires, distributor etc and I’m hoping you can tell me what brand I should go with. The 82 wasn’t available in the US for that year, and this being a Euro spec car, I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.
I’ll try and do better but still get nervous even though I know all the content and have lots of thoughts in my head that gets my little brain confused. Plus I’m fighting a nasty head cold. Thanks for the feedback and viewing
I have a NA version M88/3 and it starts up the same lumpy idle. My idle air adjuster/compensator does not work and you should check yours. It sounds as if it is also not working. Lives under the injector rail against the block. On cold start it opens an air orifice to up the idle speed temporarily without moving the throttles. Great work on the car. Been watching since it first came home.
Hey, remembered seeing you on bat when I bought mine and favorited your cooling system flush vid since I'll need to do mine soon.

Thanks for the comment and reply
That car did 0-60 in 4.5s with nothing but smoke coming off the tires the whole way.
Wrap the inlet pipe down near the exhaust manifold. Also, the single bracket was used to allow for more flex when the engine moves around.

The car has a flowmaster fitted which you can tell was added later, I don't care for it and plan to remove and do something a lot more trick.
Nice project! What’s the power output and performaces of this car? Is it street legal concerning upgrades?
Supposedly it makes 408whp, everything is street legal on it.
Those chromed pipes were tig braised with silicon bronze
How do I contact you in person? I just picked up the white 82 635csi from BAT.
Congrats! My email is: slownrusty@yahoo.com, you can contact me there.

There were closer to 30.
Do you know of a registry of owners?
Within the first minute of the video you said “uhh” 10 times😂
