  • It's another amazingly-wonderful-hilarious day on the farm! Join us for laughs...
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

I agree. There is no need to cook every night. We normally will cook something every week and use it for multiple meals. Basically say if we make chicken, we use it for, fajitas, tacos, soup, or something like that. And we always make enough for leftovers, especially if we make something that took us a long time.

Potatoes fed in livestock rations are generally comparable to good corn silage. potatoes may be feed raw to cattle, sheep, horses an swine but are best cooked for swine. Raw potatoes have only 213 the value of cooked, potatoes fed to pigs. PS: Love u guys so much ❤️❤️

Potatoes are in the nightshade family and the skins can contain a small amount of toxin. You'd have to eat a boat load for there to be any effect. Raw potato starch is difficult to digest so cooking helps that.

The pigs are hungry little balls of fun. It was a cute place to sleep. My Uncle had a pig farm, so l love the pink round piggies! You save on utilities when you don't cook every night. It just makes sense to do cooking every other day, when farming. Life is too short to spend it working 24-7. Your kids are only young once in your life. Enjoy!!!🍇🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍🍎🌽🍆🍅🍓🍒🍑🍐🍏🌶🍄🍎🍍🍌🍋🍊🍉🍈🍇🍏🍐

My hubby and I take turns in cooking dinner.
Pigs won’t eat any citrus peel like orange, lemon & Limes oh and not onion or garlic scraps.
You can feed them any other scraps.
We call those Continental Cucumbers and they are nice but I personally love Apple Cucumber. It’s white skinned, short (from approx 10 - 20cm long)
You should called that game “Famous Fish” or “Pic Fish”

I've always served up my non pork kitchen scraps to my pigs back when I had them. Pigs love potatoes overall. I would recommend boiling the potatoes or skin before giving it to the pigs, including the water, for the same reason you would eat cooked over raw.

Your not cooking every night by no means should make yoi feel like a failure infact your idea of cooking double portions is very clever for many different reasons . Firstly your freeing up time used to prepare your family's meals so it can be put to more rewarding use like spending time with your kids or husband which is so very important . Even use that time to pamper yourself being a mum is a full time job 24/7 and having a little ME time to read a good book or take a long bath for example helps centre yourself which is not just beneficial for you but its beneficial to the whole family . DONT feel bad about giving your self a break from preparing meals remember you are entitled to the right for a little ME time SO ENJOY !

There's a potato skin rule for pigs and chickens. The skins must NOT be green and, should be cooked. If they are green cook them longer. I'd say for about 15-20 minutes on 350 or lower depending on your oven.
    Hope this helps you!

I dont knw if you do already, but you should sift out the goat poop from all the pens periodically and compost it. Given that the pens are very sandy and dry it will take a very long time for the unsightly pellets to breakdown. On the other hand, if you collect it and compost it breaks down faster and can feed the garden. It also gives the animals an additional purpose.

you are right on not cooking all the time. I have a big cook day where i cook huge pots of things and let them cool then bag them and freeze. That way i only have to grab a bag of whatever i want and microwave it. I do chili, spaghetti (put extra sauce on it when cooking because it gets absorbed), something my dad called "hamburger stew", meatloaf, dried beans, split pea soup.... gosh just tons of stuff all serving sized ready to eat.
