Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

try having your goats walk on concrete or rocks. when our goats were allowed on the patio (were crazy) there hooves stayed trimmed

Willow is so cute even though she got bigger. I think she seems like she will do when for milking too. Emu is so big now...Look forward to seeing that Tall "Arizona" corn grown. I am not a fig person but I use to eat fig newtons when I was a kid. My neighbors have fig trees...All I have is lemon and grapefruit trees and they are dying due to the heat here in the San Fernando Valley outside of Los Angeles. Thanks for the videos.!

Y'all should use some fabric pots to grow plants or veggies in the filter/bog part of your pond. That would help take out some of the extra nutrients in the water.
It's a flower pot that lets air and water pass through.
Hey guys! If you look up turkey calls you may be able to tell if emu is a male or female. I looked up turkey calls afew weeks ago,can't remember why but I do remember that female's made similar calls to what emu was just doing at the end of the video! Ethan! Look up Turkey calls!

Your situation are my goals! I love that you grow your own food, and pick local figs, and then try to eat as many figs as possible. Maybe soon you could do a video about your thoughts when it comes to seasonal meal planning and stuff?

i would recomend try getting some mangrove seed pods and planting them in the pond. i use that as my filtration and it the water is crystal clear

Did you know some figs contain dead bugs and baby bugs?? I use to grow figs but I tried cutting one up for a snack for school and I found a dead bug inside it.
Also the green water and algae makes the pond look nature made.

Quick Tip: If you wet the hooves down it is easer for the clippers to clip through. I have a lamb that I have to clip the nails often and this really helps.
I just stumbled upon your channel and LOVE everything you are doing. I just inherited my family farm with no help so starting off new. (I am 37 and hubby just turned 40 with 4 kids 21,19,17 &9) We will eventually have goats and my dream is to build a swimming pond. My dad before he died pointed out a natural spring and a place that would make a great pond/lake. It is on my list of long term goals!! It is nice finding like minded people. I really want to start a blog of our journey but just get overwhelmed lol. I have like 20 articles/blogs/stories already typed its just getting them published and out there! Your pond can support a finite amount of bacteria. This bacteria breaks down ammonia waste into ammonia nitrite, then ammonia nitrate, which is available nitrogen for plant growth. As you have little in the way of plants in your pond, this promotes algae growth. I might suggest you add some Anacharis and/or Cabomba plants to your pond. These are non rooting plants that absorb all their nutrients from the water column, unlike rooted plants which need soil to acquire their nutrients. Typically sold in bunches of several stems, these need to be weighted and place in shallow areas around the edge of the pond and bog area. 18-24" water depth would work nicely. These plants will compete with the algae for the available nitrogen and help reduce your algae and green water. As your fish continue to grow they will produce more and more ammonia to add to the algae problem. Green water may not be toxic but that mat algae can produce toxic conditions, perhaps not for you but for the fish. Just a thought of something you might try to alleviate or at least minimize your algae. Hope this helps.
