I had one of those 20 volt dewalt for 4 years it's a good little saw, I put on a 16-inch Oregon bar & a 16 inch Oregon chain, the stock 12 inch bar and chain is kind of useless. I Actually talked to a DeWalt & Milwaukee authorized factory technician, he said the saw was designed to leak as it doesn't have a pump for bar oil like a gas-powered saw, your best thing to do is empty the bar oil out when you're done using the saw.

I used this saw exactly the way you described and for the same reasons you stated.
2 years after I bought it it short circuited and then I read the owners manual. It states to drain the oil when it's not in use.
    Be warned, drain the oil!

Fringe, That’s good to know. Luckily I did leave recently the oil empty when I was done using it and I’ll make that a habit going forward. -Steve

      @@TwistedToolboxCheers!
I would at least read the owners manual as who knows, maybe they have a sealed reservoir now.
I have like 30 dewalt 20v tools and about 16 batteries, This saw is absolutely the only dewalt tool that has died on me over the last 15 years. And to be fair, it was my fault.

@@fringemedia8724 I normally throw out the manuals but this one is still around and I’ll have to look through it.

@@TwistedToolbox HAHAHA! Me to but it was in the bottom of my chainsaw toolbox kit.... an oldschool aluminum lunchbox. Which is about the perfect size to hold everything one needs for the saw in the bush including a quort of oil.
      CHEERS!

If you put a 5/8 on ring on the oil cap it should prevent leaking. There's videos posted on how to do it
