    Yesterday, Monster Hunter Rise got a new patch in which Rage Slash has received a massive nerf as a result of a bug fix, that really wasn't that oppressive at all. In this video we'll explain what exactly happened and what it means for Great Sword overall. Hopefully in Sunbreak they'll give this move some love because it's really weak now.

    In patch 3.6.1 released today, the damage tanking window for Rage Slash has been restored to its original duration. The bug that let us keep the damage bonus by tackling and adamant slashing hasn't come back either. I've tested and confirmed both. Thank you Capcom for listening!

    I'm still using rage slash because it's more comfy, but I guess I'll be doing even less damage because Capcom thinks that tanking a hit for a damage boost needs to be more skill intensive. Meanwhile, Longsword go brrrrrrrr

      Kinda want capcom to rebalance Hunting edge as another way to get into TCS quicker, the first hit doing equivalent to a lv2 charge, then you can charge the 2nd hit as always, and when you land on the floor, you can get to TCS quicker

    I honestly thought storing the damage after tackling felt like an oversight from Capcom all this time, so seeing that get patched out doesn't really surprise me, but not being able to get the damage buff during the wind-up is so bad of a change that it FEELS like another oversight that happened while they were trying to fix the damage storing thing. Hoping it is for the sake of RS.

    Shoot, I use exclusively Rage Slash and had no idea that you could store the bonus damage before now, so it doesn't really effect me
    But I feel like that would have been awesome to know

    The boost carrying over via tackles, I can understand them removing it due to it being unintentional. But nerfing the frames you can get the damage boost? WHY? Why, when it takes so long to get into the stance, there's no point in using it as a counter of sorts because of it's slowness now. And as you say, it's hardly game-breaking since RS was already generally worse than TCS, it was just safer to use and could crank out beefy damage numbers if you do get hit. At least buff the base motion values to compensate, damnit!
    oh but noooo, keep buffing the fucking longsword and then wonder why everyone outside of the church of LS stans resent the weapon. It may have been a bug fix but it actively nerfed a weapon that DIDN'T NEED NERFING.

    New patch just dropped that specifically mentions the rage slash: "Fixed a bug in the reset timing for the great sword's Rage Slash that was introduced after a bug fix in Ver.3.4.1."

    As a secondary GS main this hurt me. Nerfing one weapon will not magically balance all the weapons and monster fights. Rage sash is nothing compared to the shenanigans the LS, Bow, HBG and LBG has. It can't even hold candle to how busted these other weapons counters and dps capabilities are, at least RageSlash requires tackling, knowing the monsters and high risk high reward. But yeah keep buffing popular ones while nerfing less popular ones. I will never forget how Capcom nerfed Chargeblade to the ground passively in each game because it was busted when it debuted to the point now that in Rise no one new tries it out because it is no longer that complex weapon due to counter peak performance, only mains like me use them. Lance, hunting horn and gunlance as well. I hope they will balance everything right in SunBreak because i really don't like playing the popular OP weapons to have fun.

      @@TspriggZ Yes Gunlance, that is exactly what i meant. Just let the shelling scale with raw just like sticky ammo does, just like how charge blade does. Ofcourse the main source of increase should be from artillery skill. But it should never be like all Gunlances have same default damage unless you level up artillery. No other weapon has such a poor scaling or balance. My true main CB got nerfed in every game and Rise is no exception. Capacity boost extra phial is gone. Making SAED damage laughable. At least elemental CB used to stand next to if not bit behind elemental kings like DB and bow now look what hapened to it. We thought we were entering unlimited phial Valhalla in Rise. Little did we know it was indeed unlimited phials but at the cost of one phial removal and many other mechans working against you. Savage axe doesn't want you to morph back to sword and shield. Instead of taking phials it now actually gives more phials. At the cost of no guardpointing, spin to win all day. Because all it takes is to use counter peak performance. Made the clunky and most technical weapon of the game to the simplest one. New comers sniff it for a minute and move on to other flashy weapons because counter peak performance takes out the importance of monsters moves reading and knowledge of guard points. I hope they give me back my extra damn phial and rework savage axe in a way that it doesn't limit us to stay in axe mode. We have Switch axe for that but even switch has importance to both sword and axe. I have hopes in SunBreak, unless of course capcom decided that it's too op and nerf it even more instead. Lol don't mind me. Bow, LS, HBG, LBG are all great weapons but i just decided not to use them and keep using unfavored ones haha. Takes me 10 minutes to finish the hunts but it feels natural.

    Gonna be honest, hearing this really upset me. I don’t normally get that worked up about stuff Capcom does that I’m not crazy about, but as a gs main from iceborne finding rage slash incredibly fun and satisfying, this is really sad to see. Capcom don’t nerf the chad weapon this was a bad move 😔 I hope they change something about this inbalance. One of the reasons why I enjoyed rage slash so much is that it brought a slightly new way of playing to the weapon that was just as satisfying and fun as tcs. Having played over 1,000 hours in iceborne with gs, rage slash felt new and fresh. But a part of why I love gs is it’s high damage numbers... for now, it looks like I’m returning to TCS.

      I mean rage slash was never about the biggest numbers but about consistency and it was just sooo much easier to use than TCS that it almost became default for most people. I find it absolutely fair to tweak it a bit, so more people are deciding between the both of them

    Damn, that sucks. I don't use Raging Slash too much, mostly a TCS user, but it does suck for other players. Should be fixable if they hear us.

    I'm still hoping they'd look into the fact that you can't perform a Plunging Thrust when you set Type 2 (classic) controls in the options menu. I hope they'd fix that

      There's nothing to fix, you could do it since launch. Any action that is mapped to ZR on unsheathe is mapped to R+X+A on unsheathe for type 2 controls. This includes the Plunging Thrust.

    I always thought Tackle lost the damage bonus for RS anyway, so that doesn't make much difference for me. But I really enjoyed using RS as a counter move, which is going to be a lot more difficult now.

    Literally why do this? GS is not busted or even the best weapon in the game (probably goes to LS) GS is already a harder weapon to use in some battles, it should be fine to stay the way it was. Just silly honestly

      LS is like the 4th best. Bow, HBG, and LBG are top 3 in that order and generally in a tier of their own according to speedrun times.

      Rage Slash isn't in the demo. It's a switch skill that replaces TCS in the full game.

    I'm a little confused now, coming back to Rise for the expansion. When does Rage Slash get the full damage boost? When you're charging Raging Slash and get hit by a low flinch move and when you're tackling but only for the level that you tackle with?

      Whenever you take damage in the hyperarmor part the rage slash, you get a damage bonus. Tackles don't get damage bonus.

      The lower damage will significantly impact everyone whether they notice it or not. TCS is straight up unusable on some monsters so RS will stilll have a use, it will just be a lot weaker. When starting it from a tackle it can still get damage bonus reasonably, but that means less damage since we're using less adamant slash. The RS playstyle will require a change if we want it to do damage for sure.

      @@odbp1112 people seem to like shitting on protable team lately for no reason other than to have someone to blame. But world team wasn't any better at their weapon balancing. A lot of people also seem to forget that 4, the game they worshiped the ground it shat on, had some of the worse weapon balancing before its ultimate.

    Hmm, you know I'd actually be okay with them nerfing Rage Slash a bit bc it seems like no one used TCS outside of Narwa/Ibushi. Probably just a bit of a damage nerf though, since I think the move functions fine otherwise, especially if in Sunbreak we get monsters with higher damage. The problem arises when weapons like the LS, Lance and Gunlance don't get touched. Longsword should punish users for whiffing counters, and should have its damage brought down to be around the lower-middle of the pack due to its high mobility and ridiculous defensive options. Lance should have its damage buffed across the board, as well as having guard up and guard 3 built into the shield, given that it's meant to be the most defensive/counter oriented weapon in the game and yet is outshone by several other weapons in both respects. Also making the adept counter a bit more forgiving would be nice. And finally Gunlance should have its shelling buffed to World numbers before its silkbind buff.
    I see a lot of people naming Bow in the comments but personally I think it's mostly fine as is, at least in terms of balance. Bow is probably the least safe and hardest weapon to use in the game, given that you take extra damage, have to be closer than the guns, have to manage stamina, learn to use the animation cancel, make at least 5 separate builds, etc. If anything, I would buff Bow's spread shots because I think they're pretty lackluster next to normal and pierce.

      tbh Lance is in a good spot. Just that i want cross slash to deal more damage because the reward is too low for such a hard guard to pull off..
      Gunlance however need that buff.
      as for LS i agree that it's damage should get a nerf. especially iai spirit slash since it overcentralized the LS too much.
      exactly like SnS in Iceborne the argument of "Not many people can pull off Iai spirit slash" is irrelevant because SnS's PR got gutted hard even tho not many people can spam PR too.
      as for bow, just fix that animation cancel...

      @@ldw_sparky Lance is peepee poopoo if you want to play more traditionally. The damage is garbage and it is pretty boring. It does do good damage if you spam the dashing switch skills, but that's all it has going for it tbh.

    I think the biggest downfall of rage slash was that it makes the user opt to rage slash all the time. It took a lot less skill and was nearly as effective as TCS. Now people have more reason to go TCS and get that amazing feeling of reading the monster right, lining it up, and delivering a huge blow. The patch will make more people discover the feeling of an awesome TCS.

      except tcs is almost impossible to land when the monsters are constantly on crack. rage slash was absolutely fine and this nerf proves that the devs are incompetent morons who dont know shit about proper game design. i am done with rise..not getting sunbreak if this is their idea of balance ( longsword much skill lol doesnt need nerfs huehue lets nerf greatsword instead)

      @@sandroguzelj1234 rage slash was not fine when it's paired with adamant slash. dude. You could go into adamant charged slash into rage slash and literally tank through every hit. If you eat for defense dango, you can take 4 hits in a row from valstrax all while shifting the damage multipliers between each hit. Wayyyyy tooooo easy of a mechanic to abuse. And you can land a TCS on every monster. Just gotta know you're openings and when to go 3 charges, 2charges, 1 changes. And spacing is HUGE factor when it comes to landing a TCS. I've always played TCS over rage slash because rage slash felt unrewarding to me
      Let's not talk about longsword please. The devs for sure are intentional making that weapon easy mode. Idk why they make it so op.
