Do you know what I like about your videos apart from your great creativity ? You genuinely seem to have lots of fun doing it. Thanks and keep'em coming.
@@kenyettalewis4727 Hi Kenyetta! I cut out the paddles and seal them with clear spray lacquer for $80 plus shipping. I can spray paint them a solid color for the same price. I haven't done any detailed decorating because it just takes too much extra time and it's not something I like to do, plus it would increase the price a lot. Thanks for asking! Email me at thecarmichaelworkshop@gmail.com if you are interested.
That looks Awesome! Chris Pine just made some cutting boards that looked like paddles and I commented they would make great Fraternity wall hangers. Then this video comes out, that's just a cool coincidence. Regards, Bob
Backyard Woodworking Thanks Roland! My old saw has pin blades and I haven't found spiral pin blades. I was going to get an adapter but just holding out for a new saw.
Great Scroll Work there Steve very nice work. I was thinking of trying out the Scroll Saw for myself one day, love all the designs you can do. Oh and nice intro as well. Thanks Again. Barry from England.
I dunno if it's just the sped up video but when you were cutting out the letters and removing the pieces I got really nervous for your fingers! Looks great.
This is awesome! I design greek paddles but I always have to order the paddles. I want to learn how to cut my own paddles. What type of machines will I need and what would be your suggestions on me learning
I was going to suggest spiral blades (though it's much harder to scroll a straight line), but I see someone already mentioned it. I have a pretty cheap craftsman saw myself, but you could certainly do better than what I have.
Steve, Questions for you? What band saw would you go with for cutting 3/4 MDF and blade/tooth count. I need it to be clean cuts. Your work and vids are awesome!!! Thanks.
Andy Sommer Hi Andy - Thanks! I used to sell lots of Guitar Hero guitar hangers that I cut out of 3/4" MDF. At the time, I used a $100 Delta 9" benchtop to cut hundreds of those out. I used whatever blade was at Lowes, probably 8 tpi range. If you want to cut thicker stuff like bandsaw boxes or need more than 9" clearance, then a 12" or 14" would be better. The thicker the wood, the fewer tpi you want. (www.amazon.com/DELTA-BS100-Shopmaster-9-Inch-Bench/dp/B00006JZZT/?tag=lege1-20)
Hello again. I hope all is well with you. I have a question for you. I love the AKA & DST paddles you made for me but I was wondering can you make an ivy leaf paddle?
Joseph Muench Thanks Joseph! I used Microsoft Visio to draw the shape, then copied the Greek letters from google images and put them together in Photoshop.
Thank you, sir! May I have another? Does this give you one degree of separation from Kevin Bacon? Have you made wooden bacon yet? Wooden bacon... I bet it wooden taste very good. Bill
Its for frat members to paddle pledges. However, this type of hazing is more or less frowned upon these days and appears as though this one is wall art. A nod to the past, if you will.
Hey Steve, nice project. I swear I saw this on Instagram last week, a college girl had it! I don't know if it was yours or she got the idea from the web.
Searched google images for the letters and pasted them into Visio and resized them. Then used Visio's drawing tools to draw the paddle shape around the letters.
Luis F. Rodriguez Hi Luis - I made the cutting template with Photoshop and Word. I just printed it out, then attached it to the wood with spray adhesive.
I fear this was requested so some pledges could be tagged with an Alpha Phi Alpha welt. Sophomoric, but still AWESOME ...going to be using your pen to be writing the rent check soon. I use the pen you gave me, because it the only way to smile while throwing that much money out the window
Hello I hope your holiday were wonderful. I might have asked question to you before but I was wondering how much would it cost to get sorority or Greek paddles made by you?
Hi Kenyetta! I cut out and sell these wooden Greek letter paddles for $80 plus shipping. That includes changing the letters and doing any custom engravings. For example, I've had people request a name or year on the handle, or extend the blank space at the bottom of the paddle to incorporate a small picture frame on it. Email me at thecarmichaelworkshop@gmail.com if you are interested. Thanks, Steve...
firstladywinner17 Hey! I used Microsoft Visio to design the paddle shape. I copied the Greek letters from Google images and combined them in Photoshop, then imported that jpg into the paddle shape in Visio.
Hi, I don't have them on Etsy since I usually customize the letters. I probably should put on on there as an example. Email me at thecarmichaelworkshop@gmail.com if you want more info. Thanks
Love the design and workmanship. Think the idea and purpose is way to childish. Then again college "children" rarely grow up until they actually have to work for a living. I'm just getting too old for that stuff.
Plowed through that one - good job Steve!
Nice little scroll saw project! Super cool!
Great scroll saw project Steve.
Do you know what I like about your videos apart from your great creativity ? You genuinely seem to have lots of fun doing it. Thanks and keep'em coming.
D Hi! Thank you very much. Yes I do have fun and I guess it shows a little. This is just a hobby for me so the workshop is kind of my happy place.

RJBWoodTurner Yeah, I thought that too when I saw his cutting boards. lol
I like it!!! Good job on the 13" scroll saw! You made it look so easy!
Cy's Corner Thanks Cy! It's not too bad, just had to get creative with the cuts to avoid the back of the saw.
Hi Steve! I really admire your patience and sof touch with that scroll saw! Very nice work! Cheers! Daniel
Daniel Vilarino Thank you Daniel!
Nice design and a quick project! Good job!
I'm liking the intro your using now, great project Steve.

Oh man, I dont wanna be spanked with this! Great work, Steve! I bet it will "grant" many red backs. Daniel
Can i just say Steve for someone who works in a garage you sure know how to make a great video. Keep up the good work
benji pestell Thanks!
Great job on the paddle Steve. You really rock that 13" scroll saw!
Rick Smith Thanks Rick!
I should make one for my old college frat. Tappa Kegga Beer!! :D Great work!!
Turned good Steve. You can get spiral blades they will cut in any direction so you can cut long projects. thanks for the video.

OK I have a Harbor Freight saw bought an adapter for it and it made a big difference changing the blades etc.
Nice work Steve. Takes me back to 6th grade gym class.

I wish I had your shop. I'd love to make various things like this. Cool man.

Nice idea and the layout was perfect.

Awesome craftsmanship
This is awesome! I design greek paddles but I always have to order the paddles. I want to learn how to cut my own paddles. What type of machines will I need and what would be your suggestions on me learning
You could start with a jig saw. A scroll saw is a lot easier and gets better cuts. A CNC machine if you plan to make a lot of them.
I was going to suggest spiral blades (though it's much harder to scroll a straight line), but I see someone already mentioned it. I have a pretty cheap craftsman saw myself, but you could certainly do better than what I have.
Nice job, would love a paddle for my organization like that.....

Great video - makes me want to look for a used scroll saw:-)
Mofjell1981 Thanks! You should keep an eye on craigslist. My 13" craftsman does a good job but it uses pin blades that require large starter holes.
Ouch, That's gonna leave a mark. Nice work with the scroll saw Steve! Did you break any blades and what type did you use?
MRrwmac Hi Mac! Nope, didn't break any. It's a straight pin blade. It was one my dad left behind...probably 20 years old.
how much do you charge
Love the video
I would love if you did another video with your litle girl
Ps haave you been to England
Cameron Kaveney Hi Cameron! We will do another video soon. We already have a project in mind. Yes, I went to Leigh On Sea and London in 1995.

Are u a straight blade or spiral blade scroller?
Cheers from NS

Perfect thank you
Thanks Phil!
Nice Steve.
How come you didn't show any of the two or three minutes it took to sand the end grain and sides of the letters? :-)
JimE
blackemmons Oh my, it was hard enough sanding in all those spots, so I can't imaging watching it. lol
How do I order this?

What's the best way to get ahold of you?

Yes, with a small fine tooth blade for a smoother cut. A hand coping saw would work too.
