I love it when Max does all the fighting games leading up to the newest one. I remember the hype for mkx
Same. It’s some of my favorite content from him
It's so good. It's like reminiscing your childhood with old friends.
Shit I'm new to this , i love it 🔥🔥🔥
You can't go wrong with some good ass Tekken.
I’ll take 3 tekkens to go
The first game wasn't really good. It wasn't until Tekken 2 that the series began its epic transformation into one of the greatest Fighting Game franchises of all-time!
@@DragonHeart613 Tekken 3 honestly. T1 and T2 have aged like milk.
@@DragonHeart613 Well if you know the history of this game, yk this should't be Tekken at all, it was only a prototype to Namco test 3D graphics at that time, i think the original name was Rave Racer lol
@@orlanzo2621 From a gameplay standpoint, yes. But Tekken 2 still holds up artistically. The stages, music, and story and atmosphere are still very impressive and stand out from the rest of the series
Tekken 1 felt like a prototype to me back then. Tekken 2 was where things started getting really good.
We REALLY need some kind of Tekken collection
Or a remaster of the first 3.
I think we just need to see namco and sony adding the entire legacy ps1, ps2 & psp tekken games on ps5 via PlayStation plus premium (and later adding those titles to the PlayStation store with an option to purchase).
Tekken 6 & Tag 2 are already available on xbox one/series because backwards compatibility and i don’t think we gonna see sony doing ps3 emulator on ps5 until the death of the ps4.
Fated retribution? Technically we got it already because its the vanilla console version.
It's called Tekken 5
@@christophernear6990A 19 year old PlayStation 2 game.
@@christophernear6990 Yeah because you can easily buy and play that these days...
I kinda like this kind of legacy, a history lesson/video essay over an arcade/story run
i miss seeing max experience the games again.
I actually prefer the way it was before, it was funnier and more entertaining
Back when video games were video games. Glad I have older systems to relive classics like Tekken
@@wolfshade5020lol what does that even mean
I love when Max said yesterday (paraphrase):
Kazuya picks up his father, casually throws his father off a cliff, and just smiles with satisfaction.
🤣🤣🤣 the way he said it last night was too funny
30 Years of Tekken. This legacy will be glorious.
2024 release Jan 26 , was understandable 😅
Really looking forward to this Legacy. The way tekken has changed and transformed itself through the years is insane.
1:53
Oh my god that is just straight up Star Platinum, which makes perfect sense, especially the gloves
Virtua Fighter and Tekken are created by the same game director Seiichi Ishii, who was working at Sega at the time creating Virtua Fighter then switched to Namco to create Tekken.
Classic! This bring back so many memories. Tekken 2 took things to the next level. Tekken 3 was revolutionary!
tekken 3 was how i got into the series, LOVED that game as a kid
The fact Tekken 8 is releasing on the franchise's 30th anniversary year, wew lad.
Ah, fond memories of my friends absolutely HATING me for memorizing King's ridiculous throw chains (because they had no idea how to get out of them.)
I can only wish this Tekken legacy has the same climactic crescendo of music and optimism that the end of the SF legacy had
Tekken has been one of the competitors that goes beyond the level of what fighting game is all for the challenge and its study of combat
Tekken 1 was was pretty rough gameplay wise but it had a style, Cool factor and charismatic characters that VF couldn't compete with.
Tekken 1's soundtrack still goes hard af, Stadium and Chicago still go straight on the jukebox for T7 and will do in 8 too
Ehh, that’s a matter of opinion, I still prefer VF over Tekken even now. Even critically VF as a series has done better than Tekken. VF’s main problem was being stuck on consoles that literally sold 10 times less (Saturn and Dreamcast) for a lot of its existence, and lack of marketing and promotion (in the west).
@@orlanzo2621nah VF characters aren't great
@@CYB3R2K That’s literally an OPINION man. They aren’t great to YOU. As someone who actually grew up with the series I love the cast. I love the fact that they are grounded realistic martial artists. They are regular people. Just because they aren’t dinosaurs, “devils”, bears, edgy Shonen protagonists wannabes, or robot chainsaw anime girls it doesn’t mean they are somehow bad characters. I like Jacky Bryant more than anyone in Tekken, and he’s simply an Indy Car driver who does Jeet Kun Do. But I love his hype personality, charisma, and style. I find Sarah better than Nina, she has much more personality and I like her gameplay more, Jeffry more than Marduk, Brad more than Bruce, etc.
@@orlanzo2621 dude, nobody can name a single character aside Akira from VF that's how forgettable those designs were, the opinion of a fanboy doesn't count. I don't like SF but I'll never deny the icon status of Chun Li. Same here.
@@CYB3R2K Once again what you’re saying isn’t factual man, it’s an opinion. Learn what an opinion is. You’re speaking for yourself,l. Just say that YOU don’t know any VF characters besides Akira. Yea I’m pretty sure you WOULDN’T know any characters if you’ve never really played the series, which I can tell you haven’t. Just come on out and say you don’t know anything about VF and that YOU don’t know the characters and be done with. Lol. Anyone who’s played the series knows characters like Jacky, Sarah, Brad, etc have personality. You can’t sit here and tell me Nina (who’s beyond dry and boring) has more personality or charisma than Sarah. Stop it.
What's crazy to me is how much and how little has Tekken changed since its inception
As Max's intro says indeed, lets gooooo!
I REALLY want a remastered collection of Tekken 1-3. Don't change the gameplay or rebalance anything, just give the games a fresh coat of paint with updated models and backgrounds (even upgrade the backgrounds to be 3D rather than 2D like T3's arcade version). Along with HD ports of Tekken 4-6 and both Tag games with online play. Just give us a way to access old school Tekken on modern consoles.
Honestly, I think the PS2 version of Tag 1 could've been the best of the classic games. But the balancing was just too inconsistent. Remember how OP Jin and Devil were? Goddamn.
Im really glad I found your channel as you're doing this Tekken retrospective. I was a kid at the arcade when the OG rolled out and I was an MK kid, but I saw the draw of these new 3D fighters. Tekken was my 2nd PSX game so I've always had this love for the series even though I stopped playing after 3. But this channel is making me want to get the later games and expand my Tekken love! Ah the warm blanket love of nostalgia...
I miss the old legacy videos with max playing through the arcade ladder and stuff, it was funnier
The true countdown to the release of Tekken 8!!! How I missed the legacy videos! Great start to the new year!!!😎👍🏿
Lets goooo!! I was waiting for this, always good to look back at such a great franchise (tekken tag 1 the goat btw)
I remember thinking Battle Arena Toshinden was the better very early PlayStation 3D fighter. Insane how things turned out for both franchises.
How many installments are in the Battle Arena Toshinden series again?
@@memesandhoi2924 i remember having the 4th game and that game was so slow!
@@GambitCrowe It also never left Japan and Europe. I guess the series stopped selling well by that point.
I was recently looking at your old Tekkem and PSOne legacy videos so it's nice to get an updated perspective from you.
Tekken 1 is pretty rough to go back to honestly. Tekken 2 was already a big leap from 1 and then 3 really brought it all together.
I wouldn't mind a PS5 collection with:
Tekken
Tekken 2
Tekken 3
Tekken 4
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion
Tekken 7: Fated Retribution
Tekken 7 is already backwards compatible on both new gen systems and still looks decent so that's not happening anytime soon especially with the guest characters in that game, as for Tekken 6 it could definitely get a remaster although it is backwards compatible on new gen xboxs and still looks decent, the first 5 games along with Tag 1 getting remastered would be great though
I love watching your videos bro been watching since 2010 I remember I used to call u Maximilian Dod instead of Dood haha I was 19 at the time I’m 32 now it’s been fun watching your content over the years
As someone who was frequenting arcades when Tekken came out, none of us were absolutely blown away by the graphics of Tekken, but we appreciated the hold-back-to-block style rather than the block button of VF and MK for those of us who came up playing a lot of SFII. Also, if I recall correctly, gaming magazines touted the game's auto-adjust to compensate for players spamming favorite moves over and over. I have no idea if that was a real thing or how well it worked out, but I distinctly remember that being part of the marketing push.
I am hyped Max to watch your King of Iron Fist (Tekken) Legacy videos.
It's mad that Tekken 8 is out THIS month!! 👊🏻
The original Tekken, released in 1994 for the PS1. And yeah, it holds up for the most part but this was where it all began and unlike most other games, the timeline is consistent.
This was my first Tekken and it was my first PS1 game also. At the time it was the best fighting game you could get at home. It was the first game to sell 1 million on the Playstation.
There are a lot of amazing fighting game channels that make me want to play fighting games. Max makes me passionate about them, it's mad different.
These tekken legacies are how i found out that Asuka was really just Jun in a mask. (Also Gardevoir in Pokken)
My first Tekken was my 1st game in the series. and boy howdy I have been in love with the series ever since. Gotta love Tekken
Lets gooo! I loved this series for SF
I just finished rewatching your KOF Legacy, now you're doing a Tekken one. Noice! I only really played T1 in the arcade a few times, thought it was just a cheap knockoff of VF. It wasn't until I played T2 was when I became a dedicated fan of the series from there on out.
There was a VF designer that worked on Tekken 1 - ah, Max mentions it as I type this - but the comparisons end there. Plus IMO Tekken has more personality. 👀
@@Peannlui isn’t the same guy left namco and made the tobal games and that’s one fighting game with final fantasy 7 characters?
Tekken 7 Hardest difficulty 9 hours stream is the best stream ever and every new year night i watch this stream :D
I’m not a long term fan of takken, but I love to learn about the history of games like street fight or killer instinct, so I’m happy to add tekken to the list
Awesome video man 😎!
Yay new series with this :D
_Tekken_ felt weird back in the day; it did some things we weren't used to yet. But it absolutely helped pave the way for the future of 3D fighting games.
Tekken is one of my favorite fighting game series. I still got my Tekken 1 PS1 disc. I just pre-ordered Tekken 8 to get the physical Amazon Launch Edition. I'm looking forward to rocking it.
Tekken 8 is the first Tekken game I've actually dedicated time to learning and getting good at, so now with a better understanding of what makes Tekken tick I'm excited to watch one of these legacies for the first time.
and here we go again!!
Longggg time coming
I started this series with Tekken 3 and just recently went back to check out the origins. I had to resort to roms for the og Tekken, and Tekken 2 is like you said on PS5 included in the classic catalogue. Now we only need Tekken 3 as well with trophy support!
My first Tekken was 2.
The first time I heard of Tekken when
A boy at my camp had the 3 strategy
Book.
Not to mention seeing jin for the
First time.
as a young 90s kid I was in love with wrestling, wwf etc, when I saw Tekken in an arcade and King doing a suplex it blew my mind
i'm a die hard Tekken fan but YIKES... this shit is ROUGH!
I remember reading in a magazine that to unlock the blue Kazuya or the Devil Kazuya, you have to beat the Galaga game at the start. After many failures, I eventually beat it. Devil Kazuya never unlocked. I beat Galaga twice more after that. Devil Kazuya still never unlocked.
Oh yes plz I’ve been craving legacy content
Tekken was so ahead of it's own time...
I love Tekken 1 character select theme. Brings me back to my childhood
This legacy is going to be a blast
I still remember watching Tekken on PS1 for the first time in 1995 or so on a big screen TV. literally IRL jawdrop, it was nuts
i was just thinking to myself how max should be doing a tekken legacy like street fighter like 2 days ago lol
Hooray, moon jumps are back! 😅
This game feels so old, graphic-wise, and then I look at the release date (1994)...I was a sophomore in college then. God I feel old now. It really felt like "3D" fighting games came out before then, but I guess not.
One thing i love about Legacys is....The Thumpnails...look that Peace of Art
They are starting to release tekken on PS5, like you said, 2 and 6 are there (the psp version of 6) so hopefully they release more. I personally want to play 5
I don’t think the ps2 games gonna make it anytime soon and that’s because sony doing stupid stuff with ps+ premium. Maybe we gonna see tekken 1 but for some reason tekken 3 had licensing issues (gon is a guest character) and i don’t know why but dark resurrection psp never got released digitally on the PlayStation store outside japan (basically the game is unavailable on a unmodified vita with a western psn account) i think there is a license issue in this one too but i don’t know why, i think it’s because one of the special outfits designs that’s included for one of the characters but it’s never confirmed.
@@BensyBens that sucks
@@junk_bot_man6412 yeah that’s suck but at least tekken 6 and tag 2 are available on xbox one/series via backwards compatibility.
@@BensyBens TTT2 Sucka though but T6 is decent
@@BensyBens ah nice
Tekken's 1 UI looks like an old powerpoint presentation...
Which is weirdly charming nowadays
lets be Honest The Epic Music throughout the years of Tekken Series is the call back
Didn't expect a history lesson for this Legacy, but I like it!!
It's amazing that how Tekken build its legacy here. Definitely got me excited to play the upcoming 8th sequel.
Just like Mortal Kombat in the arcade, Tekken is synonymous with quarter-munching. Those were some good days. You could put some quarters onto the cabinet to be next in line and anyone playing wouldn't think it's a donation to have them fight again. Good times.
YES! The Tekken Legacy is BACK!
Tekken is love
Tekken 1 is super rough🤯 but if it wasnt for this game we wouldnt have gotten two sequels
T2 was the perfected proof of concept to T1.
This is gonna be dope
Nice to finally see Max doing a Tekken legacy playthrough again. Lol
As someone looking forward to Tekken 8 Oh yeah! Tekken Legacy here we go! Waiting for Tekken 3 as it was my first Tekken!
My eyes literally lit up when I seen this. These were the DAYS
The ultimate martial arts phenomenon!
Virtua fighter 2 was my favorite back in the day
Tekken Legacy!!
LET'S GOOÒOÒOOOO!!
IT HAS BEGUN!!!
This Legacy is cool, kind of just going through the history of Tekken is fun
9 minutes of Max telling us hes old
So before Tekken 7 the ONLy tekken games I ever played were Tag, Tag 2 and revolution. Tekken 7 was my 1st "mainline" tekken game. I enjoyed it and can't wait to try tekken 8. Idk anything about the lore or legacy of the brand, but I always hear my other friends who enjoy fighting games talk about tekken. I look forward to the tekken legacy series.😊
Apparently king is the best character in this game
The king of Iron Fist tournament
Even tho I don’t play Tekken I’m interested to see his thoughts, on the series. Tekken 8 coming up looking pretty cool ❤
Tekken "1" was one of the first games i bounght do Ps1. Legendary.
2:10 this devil kazuya is literally Star Platinum
I mean they did it for Street Fighter right? A Tekken Anniversary Collection would be cool.
Here we go! DORYAH!
the first time i saw Tekken was strangely at a 7/11.
it was the only time they had an arcade machine. it was only up for a little while before it wasn't there anymore.
my brother played it and said it felt weird and we didn't think about it until we eventually got a ps1 and bought it along with WWF in your house, which is a funny thing you i recommend if you like wacky characters with silly combos.
I remember randomly seeing Tekken 1 in the arcade back in the day, not even knowing how to pronounce the name of the game, and accidentally discovering Law's throw where he runs up the opponent's chest. I just did that over and over again, thinking it was the coolest move I'd ever seen in a game. Didn't particularly love the game beyond that though, although the 3D was cool at the time.
Oh yeah Tekken Legacy 🎉🎉
I didn't start Tekken until Tekken 3 on console. Did play the other Tekkens in Arcades though.
Played 2 over these people my mother
Use to know house.
I know Tekken 1 and 2 are also on the PS Vita digitally. They might be PSP games (backwards compatibility), but idk if they're arcade ports or PS1 ports.
That's how I first played them, but yeah, now they're also on PS5 if you pay a ridiculous amount of money for their PS Premium subscription.
I remember one time in a GameStop, near the PS2>PS3 turnaround, where there was a box set of Tekken 4/5/Tag for PS2... and with 1-3's Arcade Ports on 5; this was the closest thing to a "Tekken Collection" I've ever seen.
A tekken collection would be sick i fold for a physical copy of that immediately
In my arcade, this game was bigger than VF, and I heard this was the case in North America in general vs Japan.
When VF2 came out it got attention for the visuals but the deliberate and chess-like gameplay simply didn't draw crowds. Tekken drew crowds watching and the caused people to give it a play.
Tekken 2 was pretty huge as well. It would have a lineup while VF2 was unplayed. Which was just nuts to me. I also have to fault the arcade operator that put the difficulty far too hard. But I loved it. VF2 was the better looking, sounding, and playing game IMO. Even though I really dug the controls of Tekken, I started falling in love with Tekken when Tag Tournament came out.
It is time for the King of the Iron Fist Tournament.
30 years man
The one that surprises me they haven't reissued is Soul Blade, the pre- Soul Calibur game that has a big following but Namco acts like doesn't exist.
Imagine you as a kid and the very first Tekken you play is the brilliance that is called Tekken 3.
But then you say,
Hey! What about the first two? They MUST be as great as the third one right?
You bother your parents to rent the first and second one....
And you sit there staring at the your old ass tv telling yourself that this is a bad dream.
