    I saw a common mistake when you were measuring the surface area of the subs. You want to look at the T/S parameters for the Sd. This is the surface area that is moving which is the cone and half the surround. Or you could measure the diameter from the top (middle) of each surround. The diameter of the cone is rigid, but the thickness of the surround can greatly effect the moving area. The inner edge of the surround is moving with the cone while the outer edge does not move at all. Some quick math says that half the surround thickness can be considered part of the moving area.
    The Meso 6.5" Sd was 133cm³ (133 x 5 = 665cm³). I looked up a a couple of 15's and it's Sd is roughly 800cm³. So you would need roughly 6 of the Meso 6.5" to get the equivalent surface area. Four of the Meso 8's is about 755cm³ and are easier to wire, but are quite a bit more expensive. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know. Keep up the good work. 👍

    • @BudgetBassHead
      @BudgetBassHead  Год назад +2

      Your evaluation is missing one aspect; the cone to surround ratio. If you look at most 15 inch high excursion subwoofers, the cone to surround ratio is nearly identical to that of the MESO65. Whenever a driver achieve, more-than-average mechanical travel; cone area suffers. Great observation. Keep'em coming. 💯

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 Год назад +5

    I really love this build. I grew up a bass head in my little honda civic back in the early 90s. I had 2 JL10w1s in a 6th order DP that was great but it literally took 95% of the hatch area. I am and old fart now and have a wife and 2 kids and can't fill the hatch for my SUV(as fun as it WOULD BE) with subs. This is good inspiration. I could see myself some something like this as it would just steal a few vertical inches. I could still use the 'floor' of the hatch for kid stuff, groceries, luggage as you showed! New subscriber, but really enjoying the content. Those little drivers look fun (silly ammounts of xmax) might have to pick a couple just to play with.

Im hoping you got another video just talking about the box some? I actually just switch cars to one that has a hatchback. I was kind of looking at a down firing sub but the ones I've heard don't hit hard enough. Something like this would be awesome. Did you measure the impedance in the vehicle? How much box rise are you seeing? I'd almost suggest dual 2 ohm drivers to get a wired 0.8 ohm impedance. With box rise I'm sure it will be higher than 1 ohm. Then you can adjust the gain to limit total power. Just a thought.

    Just one thing - the description you gave and the final diagram were for parallel-only or simply parallel wiring, not series-parallel. If you had used four speaks and had two of them connected in parallel X 2 and then connected THOSE pairs in series that'd be series-parallel or parallel-series. I'd prefer them to be alphabetical,
    butt I wasn't there the day they made the terms, lol.
    PS---This is a case where they all move in perfect unison, perhaps an advantage of smaller-as-heck subs. For your next project, try a (Holy ....) 18"
    placed into(?) - (onto?) the top of the cab, with a similar arrangement within. HELL - CoMbINe both. Unnnhhh!!! Enjoyed all the details in your narrative.

    Your math is sound except your missing Xmax. If you're comparing cone displacement you would also need to factor in cone movement. So while you may be matching in cone area you will be lacking in a side-by-side / pump-for-pump of any given 15. This is of course ignoring watts / ohms etc as that doesn't need to factor in to this specific calculation.

      They are worth it, in my opinion. I was blown away by the performance. I now have some more tuning and crossover adjusting to do. Please share the video. RUclips doesn't suggest my videos because they're not shared enough.

    Have you tried to configure all subs to 1 ohm by connecting two pairs in parallel to achieve two sets of 1 ohm, then connect these two sets of pairs that are 1 ohm in series to get a sub configuration of 4 subs to 2 ohms. lastly use the last sub and wire it down in parallel to 2ohms and then wire your 4 subs which have a net ohm load of 2 ohm to the one sub which is 2ohm to give you a net ohm load of 1 ohms. I am not an expert by any means but all subs will individually wire at 2ohms, though the 5th sub might be over powered if the current split is 50/50. Meaning if the amp provides an arbitrary 5000watts rms, it will split the 2500watts rms to the one sub(5th sub) and then equally slipt the other 2500watts to the 4 subs. If you have the equipment to test this, please do and hopefully share it with us. I love your channel and I got the inspiration to build my very first 6th order box for a 12inch from watching your videos. Keep up the great work!

      To answer your first suggestion, I couldn't do that because of what you said. Not all the subs would receive the same power. Glad you were able to build the bandpass; they have amazing bandwidth. By the way, Please share the video. RUclips doesn't suggest my videos because they're not shared enough.

      It's doable. But make sure you have the space recommended by the subwoofer. Should hit done really high SPL scores with that build.

    People keep telling me that those don't go low. I keep telling them to send me pic of a clean drug test before they offer an opinion.
    But now that you've heard them, what's your opinion? Do they hit "dem lowz"?

    • @Raymo2u
      @Raymo2u Год назад +1

      That concerns the box more than the subs themselves. They'll go low if you build a box that allows them to. Remember, an 8" sub hit over 170db by itself.

    I personally prefer any subwoofer size except 12s.
    To me, 12s are way too "overrated, overrused and common" because everyone that I know only uses 12s but yet they say they want to be different. Then get an two 24s or 10 6.5s or one 32 lol 😂

      It's easier to manage this way. You can independently remove and add subwoofers without disrupting the entire chain. You can even do live/hot swaps during competitions. Because the impedance would automatically adjust itself.

    So what are some opinions on these meso 6.5" subs from anyone reading this? Cuz I just ordered 2 of them to go in my new truck that should be done being built in about a month & a half.... I'm not looking for some spl records or anything but I just wanted to add some bass to my 2024 stock f150 sound system without having to have a massive box that takes up half of all of my back seat of my truck so I went with these 2 meso 6.5" subs cuz they were reasonable price & I went with 2 x D4ohm subs so I could make a 700.1D CT sound monoblock amp work by wiring it at a 1ohm load to make my build as cheap as possible while still hopefully giving a little bit more than what a stock system has in terms of bass.... So just wondering if anyone else has had these little subs & what your thoughts are regarding their abilities & weather or not you think I made an okay decision? Thanks
