The game actually uses to Source engine. I remember they had a deal with Valve that they had to wait until after HL2 had been out for a certain amount of time before they could release it so an official Valve game would be the first showcase of the engine, but a beta version of V:tM actually got leaked onto the internet early before even a proper HL2 demo was out. A lot of people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in the game at all downloaded it just to get a peek at the Source engine. It actually caused a lot of stink at the time because well, as we know now V:tM is pretty notoriously janky, and that wasn't even the commercial release of the game, so a ton of people were posting online that HL2 was going to be garbage because the Source engine looked horrible. I think Valve even put out a statement to some games news sites about it. But, yeah, I think that had a lot to do with the game's lack of success - an unfortunate early version got leaked that made the game seem worse than it was and caused a lot of negative controversy on top of the fact that it was always going to be unfairly compared to one of the best games of all time.

Their bodies animate only at night. So they can't just hide from the sun and move in the shadows or something. They have to go into hiding before sunrise, to fall in turpor in the dark. You get new clothes the second you hit the next city if you buy them from the vendor, not "almost at the end of the game". There's like a whole other city to do right after that city. But I agree, more customization would have been great. I hate the idea of worrying about time and fearing sunlight. I'm glad the game is night all the time. It's fucking irritating when playing Oblivion and Skyrim as a vampire, you warp somewhere or spend too long inside a building or dungeon and suddenly it's daylight out and you're desperately scurrying for a safe area to rest. It sucks, it's not fun, and it ruins being a vampire in those games short of modding that bull out.
@@TheCantinaChannel There's a van near one of the ends of the city. It's near where the security guard booth is that prevents people from driving in and out of a closed-off place. I think you end up going that way in the story for something. There's a door somewhere there, I can't remember, but anyway outside of that is a van with a fat black guy standing behind it. He's an oddball, but he sells a few useful things, not least of which is the new clothes which should offer better protection against damage. There are about four appearances for each clan/gender, I think. The default one, the second one (the van), and then two more after that which I can't recall. Maybe it's time I got back into the game again if I'm forgetting all this. Anyway, there are technically four upgrades to get, but only three appearances as the highest one (the body armor) is just the previous set but stronger.
In the fan fix (Or at least some versions of it) he was somewhere different, in an alley close to the Confession. For the others you pretty much just have to look around for shops, usually there aren't that many.
Fat Larry's van is either just beside the downtown Venture tower near the parking garage, or in the alley just before club Confessions. (Depends on which version of the patch you're using.) In Hollywood the vendor is the attendant at the Red Spot. In Chinatown it's Tsing in the "herbal remedies" shop right across from the Red Dragon restaurant. Lastly at endgame you can buy an armored version of the Chinatown outfit from your quest giver/weapons dealer/info guy in Santa Monica, or get one for free from your ghoul Heather, if you play your cards right. 😉
@@TheCantinaChannel Also from the same vendor you can buy a better melee weapon. I always use the fire axe. You can start upgrading at the very beginning of mid game...
From the Tabletop RPG to this, I fucking love Vampire the Masquerade. I can't count how many times I played this game. Might actually have it installed somewhere on my drive... They ever remade this, or gave it a sequel, damn, those would be some "Final Nights" of social life, I'll tell you that much.

@@yourguyforham4216 I think I tried a shitload of them mods... I truly love this game. Will probably try to replay it some time soon.. The only thing I dislike is that you can only play as Camarilla... If they had done a more open world game, with a campaign for both the Sabbat and the Anarchs, the game would've been mindblowing
Can you even play as a Tzimisce? I always wanted to do that. Have my little arm-headcrabs do most of the work for me or just summon the Tits-Spider or something.
You get a new outfit in every city. The convenient store in Hollywood. At the place you by guns and stuff in Chinatown. From the black guy by the parking garage in LA and I think the pawnshop or the bail bondsman, there's somebody you can buy guns and stuff from that you can buy an outfit from in Santa Monica. Maybe it's at that beach house. It's been a really really long time since I've played Bloodlines. It's been 10 years or more. But I'm with you, despite the fact it could use some improvements and fixes I love it. It's awesome. I would love to see it remastered like Skyrim. And the glitches and bugs fixed. And available on more than PC. It would be cool if they continued with a series of games since its a series of books and rpg. There's a lot of storylines to work with and it could be like Oblivion and Skyrim as far as options and character building go. Or like fallout. It would addictive if it was so open world like those. I think it would do great like all the games. The foundation has already been laid. Idk if you have run across it but there is a team PC game b4 bloodlines. It vtm: redemption. Its points and clicks bc it sometime b4 bloodlines but it has the character build and all that like bloodlines. And the storylines begin in the crusades and you leave you're a bloody trail through the ages to modern day so to speak. I played it long b4 bloodlines and your character a guy named Christoph that gets turned into a vampire unwillingly. Other than not changing his name or gender everything is all you and your decisions who you want him to be and all that. Look it up if you have never checked it out. Happy feeding! Lol
"time to make vampires great again" hahaha i had to say it. i am enthused about bloodlines 2 but i will keep my expectations real, i am just grateful for "discovering" and playing VtMB, nice upload!
Ah, man...I remember just listeing to that radiostation with the rain in the background for hours without actually playing the game lol...haaahhh...so relaxing
I liked that in this game every quest and location felt unique in some way. Interesting that first time I played it in the old days I didn't experience any major bugs, but when I tried to play it last year with the unofficial fix it was buggy af
it's a shame this game didn't get the attention it deserved, it was a fantastic RPG. unlike a lot of RPG's how you create your character actually plays a major part of your RP experience, you can be a Toreador if you want to be the charming vampire who skulks about among the humans, or you can be a nosferatu and completely reject your old human ways, and everything in between depending on what clan you pick
The ocean house level (spooky hotel part) won an award in ‘04. It’s amazing, not very scary, but tells a short sad story that does get a happy ending depending on your choice
A great video, and I'm not trying to dump on it. Just couple little tidbits for anyone thinking about getting into the tabletop, or more interested in the lore behind it: Dracula actually wasn't a Nosferatu. He's a member of Old Clan Tzimisce (you run into a Tzimisce in this game, but can't play as them. the old clan doesn't have the gross factor). LaCroix isn't the Prince of all vampires. "Prince" refers to a vampire of a faction that rules over a certain area. Multiple dialogue options can be opened throughout the game. If you have high seduction, Dominate, or if you play as a Malkavian. California is the target of this game because in the lore, California has become known as the "Anarch Free State". That whole prince-faction thing I mentioned? A Prince is part of the Camarilla. They're all hierarchy and respect your elders and all that. Anarchs basically said F that and took the west coast for themselves. But yes, VTMB is an amazing RPG. You can catch it on sale for almost nothing, and it's worth much more than that. Like he said, download the unofficial patch. There are even patches that let you play as more Clans, and some that open up additional quest-chains. It has pretty good replay value. Be warned though! If you don't pick a combat-type Clan, some battles can be pretty difficult. Especially on your first playthrough.
There is a first Masquerade game too: Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption. It's also awesome but in a different way and since it's older, well... you have to manage your expectations. Also, game was made for CRT monitors so playing on new monitors is a real pain. There are areas where you move completely in the dark not knowing where you are heading, still, this is an awesome, climatic game.
Hahaha... I so agree with the parking lot thingy. Been trying to brain that place to no avail... Lol... But yes, I loved the melee fight. Loved that lovely katana. It's a blessing...
Best thing about this game is its community. The amount of patches and mods for this game is incredible. People even added entire new quests and voice acting into the game. Or rehauled the game entirely for a different perspective. For example being part of the evil Sabbat and their clan choice. Instead of the usual clan disciplines, you can actually burn people alive or summon freaking demons or turn into a lizard man. This game is hands up the best RPG ever.
You can get new clothes and guns as soon as you get Downtown, there is a guy next to a big moving van that is next to the big LaCroix hotel that sells stuff and then later more people sell you new clothes and guns.
No joke, the first time I saw LaCroix seltzer in stores, I had the reverse of this realization. It took me a solid 2 weeks to figure out why the name sounded SO familiar.
Played it without any patches and, thanks to the noclip command, it wasn't a disaster. Kind of hilarious to glimpse the occasional homeless person zoom into a nearby alleyway from across the street.
I started playing this just two weeks ago, and now, one of my fave youtubers made a video about it? did I accidentally trade my soul to have this much luck? :D so what's your guys favourite race? I haven't played them all, but I'm currently having a blast as a nosferatu
Goodness, it's finally here!!! Great video as always Cantina! It was such a joy to watch, especially when you get to try out a game that is from the "out of this world" category: good or bad, it's definitely an experience! Soooo................. where'd you get that fancy soda, hm?
"there are no Sparkly vampires" Really i was pretty sure after playing the game a few dozen times Toreador's where in fact in the game Ya know the vampires that literally cover themselves in glitter because they think it's beautiful
@@TheCantinaChannel another few details you got wrong are LaCroix's rank is Price of the local Camarilla not all vampires. Humans are called Kine not "humies"
I remember TotalBiscuit used to talk about how great that game was. Haven’t thought about it for a long time, but maybe it’s about time I give it a try.
VTMB video in the god's year of 2018! I'm so so happy! I still love this game so much, it's my ultimate fav and I would kill for another one, remaster or ANYTHING. I even started to roleplay VTMB things in private and boy... it's amazing...
There are two mods that just got updated and released this month: (1) the Clan Quest mod and (2) The Final Nights mod. The Clan Quest mod adds many new quests to the game, all based on what clan your character belongs to. TFN mod is a complete overhaul of VTMB that makes the World of Darkness a very dangerous place. It also adds some new quests and characters. I hope you have fun with these.
You should look into the Legacy of Kain series. Blood Omen 1 is a dark fantasy zelda sort of deal. Soul Reaver 1 & 2 puts you in the shoes of a vampire that was killed and turned into a wraith. Blood Omen 2 is kind of an oddball but it's the one that screams vampire fantasy the most. You obtain dark gifts, you travel through slums, city neighborhoods poor and rich, a cathedral, a prison, tunnels, highly mechanized alien bases (aliens as in an ancient species imprisoned in a hellish dimension, not the outer space type). And the atmosphere is really really nice. Basically think a vampire in a UK city during the industrial revolution. And then there's the last one, Legacy of Kain Defiance which let's you play with both Raziel, the wraith, and Kain who at this point is an ancient and extremely powerful vampire and ruler of the land (more or less).
Man I want more World of Darkness based video games, though of course with character customization. Good thing we got a new WoD coming out relatively soon. ^^ This game looks like it's pretty fun, I'll have to try it out soon.
The guy with the beard who helps you is character take from the tabletop RPG. I think he is in the Gangre Clanbook. Also, he is voiced by Jake from Adventure Time.
Criminally underrated game, did u know on the game's starting character creation, if u increase the stats and go back to main menu and go back to character creation menu the skills remains and u can glitch the entire perks in the game's starting and unlock new diaglogues with the guy who gives tutorial, he comments that u r cheating or something, i remember discovering the glitch and it was so awesome that the game was aware that i was glitching it is a very good and detailed game and i recommand it to anyone who simply enjoys rpg and vampires even if u dont like vampires this game is just good rpg that is of course if u installed the unoffical patch. TRY THIS GAME!!!! And try the starting perks glitch!
And the story is also good and dont even ask about the soundtrack Its perfect gothic and acustic guitars i still listen to this day, the best one is hollywood theme and "pointsettia" and "this world then the next" its simply greatness in its greatest form. 11/10
When i completed the game for the second time i felt so empty that i started the game again and skipped the credits thats when i discovered that glitch and i completed the entire game in just 4/5 hours because certain perks makes the gunplay and swordplay 10x better and i had all the abilites with we so the gunplay basically became half life's gunplay and boom! Its made with source engine aswell so its a MUST
Seeing the current triple AAA industry and their stupid focus of graphics over gameplay, no, thank you, I like the game how it is, it clean, it accessible, and it playable (after the patch), I not need a 50G game with ultra bullshit graphics.
@@TheKeyser94 I did only mean graphics wise, the story and way to play should remain the same. Unfortunatly you are right about current AAA games. Also the reason I play older games.

I was never able to find the vendor there, where was it?
(Depends on which version of the patch you're using.)
In Hollywood the vendor is the attendant at the Red Spot.
"Even if my pants were on fire, i will NOT take them off in front of you"
Aw man! You made me so mad :(
I really want to play this game someday
You totally should! Just make sure to get the unofficial patch.
check steam, i bought it on sale for $5
update, steam has it on sale right now $4.99 till Nov 1.
The Cantina when I click download on the patch it takes me to a downed site
@@christopherhall5361
Are all PC gamers this stupid^^The op is probably a console peasant.
What a perfect spooky Halloween time video
I thought so.
I think The Cantina is the most underrated youtuber of all time.... Btw love your voice and commentary...
Thanks man!
Huh just heard of this game and I’m honestly interested so thanks man
Glad I could help.
On par with Two Worlds?! Dem fighting words, son.
Haha
From the Tabletop RPG to this, I fucking love Vampire the Masquerade. I can't count how many times I played this game. Might actually have it installed somewhere on my drive... They ever remade this, or gave it a sequel, damn, those would be some "Final Nights" of social life, I'll tell you that much.
There are plenty of mods that revamp the game (no pun intended) things like new clans, quests, making guns useful my favorites would be final nights and antiribu
@@proximityclockworkx1572 not without mods, and as far as I remember, wasn't that great either, but it has been awhile, so I dunno...
One of the most underrated video games of all time. With the unofficial patch, it's a masterwork. One of my favourite games of all time.
Dude, you're the best. I love your Oblivion videos and didn't expect a Vampire Bloodlines video!
Did that man just take a shotgun to the face and keep running at 4:56?
Somebody has been juicing.
Don't want to spoil it for ya but he... well he is a ghoul
@@abyssstrider2547 Instead of making a joke about juicing on vamp blood you straight went into jackassmode. Way to go.
@@roberth4395 Of course :)
Ah, man...I remember just listeing to that radiostation with the rain in the background for hours without actually playing the game lol...haaahhh...so relaxing
We need a Deb of Night in _our_ reality. I'd tune in to her every night!
I liked that in this game every quest and location felt unique in some way. Interesting that first time I played it in the old days I didn't experience any major bugs, but when I tried to play it last year with the unofficial fix it was buggy af
One of my favorite youtubers talking about one of my favorite games? This channel got even more amazing :D
it's a shame this game didn't get the attention it deserved, it was a fantastic RPG. unlike a lot of RPG's how you create your character actually plays a major part of your RP experience, you can be a Toreador if you want to be the charming vampire who skulks about among the humans, or you can be a nosferatu and completely reject your old human ways, and everything in between depending on what clan you pick
The ocean house level (spooky hotel part) won an award in ‘04. It’s amazing, not very scary, but tells a short sad story that does get a happy ending depending on your choice
I rarely play any of the games you cover other than Morrowind. I'm subscribed because you crack me up every time.
Your channel is so underrated please do top 5 mods for skyrim or something like that
A great video, and I'm not trying to dump on it. Just couple little tidbits for anyone thinking about getting into the tabletop, or more interested in the lore behind it:
Dracula actually wasn't a Nosferatu.
It has been soooo long since we've actually gotten a vampire themed game where you play as a vampire.
The funny thing is, I played the vanilla version and never had the glitching problems you mentioned.
5:17 OMG pfffttt hahhaaaaaaaaa! That is hilarious! Your commentary is wonderful! :D XD
*Looks at Nosferatu*
"Your Classic Dracula Type"
Me: Laughs in Tzimisce
Hahaha... I so agree with the parking lot thingy. Been trying to brain that place to no avail... Lol...
But yes, I loved the melee fight. Loved that lovely katana. It's a blessing...
Didn't know that la croix was a soft drink everyday i learn something new
Best thing about this game is its community.
Don't open it!!!
This guy: "There's no sparkly vampires"
Also this guy: plays a Toreador
Best game of all time.
Heard they're reforming The Dawnguard. Vampire Hunters or something in the old fort near Riften. Might consider joining them myself.
My favorite video of yours thus far! Would love to see you review other non-fantasy (for lack of a better term) RPGs like this.
Definitely plan on reviewing more sometime in the future.
LaCroix, like... Remy LaCroix (?) Maybe, i don't know about that
Clan quest mod 4.0 also just got released!
this game was brilliant. Still one of my favorites
Omg 😂😂😂😂 VTMB is my all-time favorite! This is way too intertaining! Ily!
This game is so great with the unofficial patch.
No joke, the first time I saw LaCroix seltzer in stores, I had the reverse of this realization. It took me a solid 2 weeks to figure out why the name sounded SO familiar.
Played it without any patches and, thanks to the noclip command, it wasn't a disaster. Kind of hilarious to glimpse the occasional homeless person zoom into a nearby alleyway from across the street.
the first time I played this game I played without the patch, and still loved every minute of it
So much memories playing this game! Definitely one of the best games i've played!
I started playing this just two weeks ago, and now, one of my fave youtubers made a video about it? did I accidentally trade my soul to have this much luck? :D so what's your guys favourite race? I haven't played them all, but I'm currently having a blast as a nosferatu
5:17 ~Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gaaaal!~

Great video as always Cantina! It was such a joy to watch, especially when you get to try out a game that is from the "out of this world" category: good or bad, it's definitely an experience!
Soooo.................
where'd you get that fancy soda, hm?
You're becoming funnier and funnier with every video...
Thanks man, it isnt easy.
You hit someone after your loading screen only if you clicked the left mouse button during loading screen. Other hotkeys work as well.
I finished Bloodlines yesterday and now I have this in my recommended.
The game of my childhood 💖
"there are no Sparkly vampires" Really i was pretty sure after playing the game a few dozen times Toreador's where in fact in the game Ya know the vampires that literally cover themselves in glitter because they think it's beautiful
Haha I did not know about that.
@@TheCantinaChannel another few details you got wrong are
LaCroix's rank is Price of the local Camarilla not all vampires.
Humans are called Kine not "humies"
@Lost Khajiit there is such a thing as body art you know
Just discovered your channel...and oh boi it is awesome =)
Greetz from a german viewer!
I remember TotalBiscuit used to talk about how great that game was. Haven’t thought about it for a long time, but maybe it’s about time I give it a try.
I'm actually mad RUclips didn't tell me about this and notification Bell is on but hey I love the channel
It finally decided to notify me when I was making a video.
just bought this game today!
Yup: great series.
Man I want more World of Darkness based video games, though of course with character customization. Good thing we got a new WoD coming out relatively soon. ^^
This game looks like it's pretty fun, I'll have to try it out soon.
This will always remain one of my favorite games ever
When you see the word 'Mood' in the dictionary, a picture of this MASTER piece is next to it.
The official version that came out was literally impossible to finish without the patch because the boat at Leopold Society didn't freggin work.
I love your game reviews! :D
You don't have to wait till close to the end of the game to get new clothes. You can start to get them by the second hub.
And the story is also good and dont even ask about the soundtrack
Its perfect gothic and acustic guitars i still listen to this day, the best one is hollywood theme and "pointsettia" and "this world then the next" its simply greatness in its greatest form.
Its made with source engine aswell so its a MUST
Always coming back to this game. If there is a game that deserves a remake, this is one. They also should hire the patchers for it.
Not sure if you know by now but im pretty sure you can get new clothes as soon as you reach downtown if im not mistaken
What really separate this game from other RPG are the immersion, dunno why but when i first played it, it felt really real to me
1. My first playthrough was a Nos, believe it or not.
2. The haunted hotel scared the shit out of me. I hadn't been scared like that in years.
I loved this game back in the day.
I‘m pretty sure you can get a new, more protective set of clothes in most chapters of the game (not sure about the first one, but definitely the ones after that) and the Shin Gunto is 100% available in Santa Monica *spoilers* if you complete Knox‘ quest.
ya you're almost definitely right.
I like how you did a review in the style of the game, my second favorite game of all time after Vampire the Masquerade Redemption which has a better story for me and atmosphere and powers, people should make that game more popular too!
