    Thank you for this open and honest conversation. For me, I wish I could do better and not eat meat on a Friday. I have many times (accidentally) eaten meat on a Friday. Maybe I need to write this reminder on my wall calendar 🦋

      You are not alone, Catherine! We all have things we struggle with, but we can keep encouraging each other and praying for each other. Lol- maybe you could put a picture of a fish on your refrigerator as a visual reminder for Fridays :)

    I grew up with bowing my head at the name of Jesus, that I do. I grew up with tapping your chest 3 times when the bells ring when the Host is raised, which my husband and I do which I see it is lost with many of us that grew up with it. I did make a home alter with my corner bookcase.When I pray the Rosary every day I follow the Fatima Center website they have the everyday Rosary and they have the 54 day Rosary which is so beautiful. I never heard it said this way . I concentrate on the pictures. Which makes it easier.Try following someone online. I always have Masses said on their death anniversary in my church. But I know the Divine Mercy Shrine in Stockbridge Mass you can have Masses said there online. I have done that also. I loved this video!! liked you said to pray the Angelus. I have never done that.If you sit very near the front of the church you won't be so distracted. I do have a question for both of you. Do either of you wear a veil in church? It seems the college adults that come to our church are wearing them but most people don't.

      These are all great suggestions, Linda- thank you! We are seeing many more ladies of all ages veiling at our parish, too. We do not currently veil (again- not a tradition we grew up with)- but we are not ruling it out for the future, either!

    I’m good at #4 and #6. My Latin is pretty good. In 1997 our choir was invited to sing for Pope John Paul II and for the Sunday high mass at St Peter’s basilica. Our director was told that at St Peter’s they would have a cantor standing by in case our Latin was not good enough. We practiced for 8 months. Our Latin passed the test.

      Lol, Gail- maybe you could give us Latin lessons :) That is so very cool that you sang for the Pope! What a wonderful opportunity. That was a once in a life time chance... and you were there!

      @@catholicmomanddaughter it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. It was the first time I had ever been outside the US. In 2 weeks I saw and did more than I had ever done before. It was amazing. I’ve been back to Rome multiple times. But nothing can top that experience. I was newly converted a few years before.

    This a very good topic during Lent. I know I can relate. I realized that when we first started praying the rosary. feels like it's an exercise in focusing. I noticed how beautiful it is for just that and each mystery has a vertue that we get to put into practice. Thank you, love and God bless.

      Thank you for the reminder about the beautiful virtues of the rosary, Dan! They are one of the many benefits of the rosary that we tend to forget about. It's no wonder the rosary is such a powerful prayer!

    Ouch. Guilty as charged. The other day I was sitting in the waiting room at the lab, waiting an hour and a half for my turn with the phlebotomist, and I decided it would be a great time to pray the rosary. I was wearing a mask, so no one could see my lips moving. I didn't have a rosary with me, but that's why we have 10 fingers, right? It was HARD! People were chatting and the TV was droning on in the background. There were so many distractions, and I kept losing my place. But I tried focusing on the arm of the chair, and that seemed to help a bit. I got to wondering if it would help me if I had a picture of each mystery to focus on during my regular time of prayer. I think I'm going to look up some artwork of the various mysteries, put them in a file in the desktop of my computer, and have those as a visual aid for the rosary. I don't know if it will work, but I think I'll try it.

    • @catholicmomanddaughter
      @catholicmomanddaughter  Год назад

      Yes! Trying to use waiting time wisely to pray can be so difficult in a waiting room with all the background noise. We often say the rosary while walking, and that seems to be another high risk place for losing your place. Mother Teresa and her nuns were known to say many rosaries as they walked the streets of Calcutta; they must have had lightning focus! Having pictures really dos help- we have a couple of rosary books with a picture for each mystery that we used when the kids here were younger, but they are still very helpful and enjoyable.

    Sounds to me like you’re human, just like the rest of us.😉I can relate to all of these. For me, wearing a veil definitely helps with distractions at Mass. Worn forward enough, it helps block peripheral vision and keep my eyes focused ahead. I’m one of only a couple who veil at my church, but I’m okay with that. I also close my eyes when I find myself tempted to look at other people. We will all wander at times, but a short apology to Jesus and a prayer for renewed concentration will help. For the rosary, a scriptural rosary helps me so much, and when appropriate, a RUclips video with high quality art for each mystery. I admire you both so much for the evangelization work you do through your channel. That is huge! I don’t feel called to this, but I know I need to find a way. I’ve been praying about this a lot lately. Thank you for the reminder.🥰

      Annie, I have to agree with almost everything you said. I do not veil, but hearing what you said about distractions while wearing a veil, is intriguing. I think I will ponder that for a bit. I was going to say the same about a scriptural rosary or using a video to help guide us through the decades and provide the visualization that helps us focus on the mystery. (Kate and Jennifer, I thought the pictures they displayed while we said the Rosary at the women's conference was very helpful. I am with Kate, that sometimes I don't know what I am doing while saying the Rosary. I think I can either contemplate the mystery or focus on the Hail Mary but I cannot multi task while saying the Rosary.) I have not made hot cross buns for exactly the reasons you suggest. Why are we eating yummy rolls on Good Friday? I am not judging those who do that, but I cannot make that tradition. However, I am probably more guilty of all these things. You both are NOT ALONE. Why don't you pick one of these areas (minus the buns) and focus on trying to change your behavior each month? Breaking it into smaller parts might make it easier to handle. (I guess the Masses for the dead don't really fit into that plan well. Perhaps you could pick a day, maybe just before November, to get all the Masses. Or maybe around a special day in your life, a birthday, anniversary etc...

      These are all very good ideas, Annie- thank you! Many of the ladies at our church veil; it is definitely becoming more popular here and is a beautiful tradition. We do love art here and recently thrifted a beautiful book with all kinds of pictures of the Blessed Mother in it. We may put together a rosary collection from that :)

      Great ideas, Ann! Yes- we also thought the pictures at the conference were very helpful. We are going to look into the art aspect more closely- we do still have a couple of rosary art books around that we used when the kids were younger and occasionally still use, but we are going to investigate the other options out there.

    For the offering masses for deceased loved ones I definitely struggle to request masses in the office but what I do do is have a little notebook where I keep mass intentions and lift them up at the beginning of mass so I dont forget but then lift them up properly at the offertory. That's not as good as requesting them because then everyone is praying for them through the priest but it's better than not doing it. And then my suggestion for the hot cross buns is to make them a different day than Good Friday. Maybe Monday or Tuesday of Holy Week. That way you can fast Good Friday no problem!

    • @catholicmomanddaughter
      @catholicmomanddaughter  Год назад +1

      That is a good alternate solution for the masses, Jennifer- thanks for sharing! Another day for the buns is also a good idea, too- sometime during Holy Week but necessarily in Good Friday.

      @@catholicmomanddaughter thank you so much! And on the rosary dont be too hard on yourselves we do all struggle to stay recollected while praying the rosary or other meditative prayers. It's a really good discipline and that's part of what makes it powerful when we pray it even when we dont feel prayerful. I definitely struggle. Gabriel Castillo (Gabi after hours excellent RUclipsr) he talked about his struggles and how he pauses in between each decade to at least reflect a little on the mystery and then goes forth with the vocal prayers and if you can maintain reflection then keep on and if not just bring yourself back as often as you notice yourself slipping but know that that is still an effective prayer. It's not about feeling it or being perfect but the love in trying.
